In the ongoing effort to find my Step-Dad a fun Mopar, I've found this beauty.....

A 1970 Challenger T/A 4 speed that a buddy of mine has. Matching numbers driver quality car. Could use a repaint to be super nice but imo, it has character with the old dings and scratches on it.

Killer car that drives great. His birthday is this weekend so maybe he'll buy it as a gift to himself. We looked the car over today and it's awesome.

These pics are several years old from before my buddy bought the car but it still looks like the same. He has since gotten it running better since he's owned it.

when it gets repainted, I sure hope that top comes off, unless it is original to the car, which I doubt. I've always loved the 70 Challengers. 340 6 pack makes it even better

My dad had a '70 'Cuda. I've always liked both those and the Challengers. Cool car.

According to a fender tag pic that I have seen, it is an original white top car.

I was seriously looking at that thinking "What kind of car did they use for this clone?" Looked at the wheels and then saw to the van that I thought was parked behind the car.

If he gets it, I don't think we would ever get it painted. It's a nice 10 footer. The top is original and even if we painted it, it would get a new white top because that's how the car was ordered.

OK, makes sense. Just looks a little odd with the white top on that type of specialty car

Hell, I think it looks awesome. It's part of what I love about the looks of this particular car. That's just me though.

My dad ordered his w/ a vinyl top and when it came in, they had left that off. He was later glad it didn't have it.

I don't really care for them, but like Gearhead said, if it came that way, I'd probably leave it that way unless I was going to completely redo the entire car.

Definitely needs a new Vinyl top, looks dirty from here... it's a regrettable choice but I'd agree about leaving it there. Is that shift handle a stock option or "upgrade"? I'd get a new lever and change it to a ball, I highly dislike handles on a manual shifter... unless that was factory then I'd deal.

The top does match the interior.

I would be interested in knowing how many T/A's had the vinyl top option...especially in white. Great looking Mopar for sure! Ditch the chrome valve covers and the Accel wires, find a fake battery topper and enjoy the hell out of it. Maybe throw a pinion seal in it (if that's a leak I see).

    Pistol Grip shifter was factory.

That's what I was wondering. TA's like that weren't normally ordered with items like that.

It definitely needs some orange valve covers. Other than transmission, I'm not sure that there is a break down of colors and options for the T/As. Less than 1000 4 speeds were built.

I forgot to mention that the car also has the original broadcast sheet.

Wow , that is so cool that it still has the 8 track player in it. So many of those were tossed out for cassette players back in the day!!

Ditch that 8-track and throw in an Alpine touch screen bumpin' a pair of 12's in the back.

I love them in the E-bodies. Those long, awkward looking B-body pistol grips are terrible though.

That white top is interesting but that a sweet ride for a numbers matching driver.

The pistol grip always seemed like an odd choice from the factory.

Not a fan of pistol grip either but you would be nuts to take it out of an all original, numbers matching car like this one.

At most I would swap it for a shifter I liked and store the pistol grip somewhere safe like previously memtioned.

Nothing yet. He's still on the fence about it. Personally, I think it's a no brainer but it's not my money. Maybe I'll tell him we can sell the Chevelle and get this. I'd rather have the Challenger as an investment because it's not likely to drop in value like the Chevelle.

He's retired and since there's a new lake going in just yards from their property, he's thinking he wants a new bass boat. He's pretty tight so I'm not sure he'll splurge for both.

That lake probably won't be fishable for a few years; he can enjoy the Challenger till then !

    Uh, hi.

What's the market for something like that in this day and age?

I know how much we have in it and imo, it's not worth that much. If I had to guess, $30k-$35k.

Thanks. It gets a ton of attention any time I have it out. It's really hard to drive easy. I always wanna just floor it because it sounds awesome and has so much torque.

Both are righteous automobiles in their own way. I have a big soft spot for a nice Mopar, but there is no denying that the Chevelle is a sweet ride too. High winding 6-bbl small block or the big block torque of the Chevelle...tough call for sure. 440-6 or even a 440 Magnum in the Challenger and it's no contest.

    Oh, fuck that bass boat.

Back in HS, my buddy's dad still had his 1970 Olds Rallye 350 from when he was in HS. My buddy would pick me up once a week our senior year in HS on the way to school and he drove it to prom.

Buddy still has it and is restoring it.

I had a chance to pull the trigger on one of those in 1977 for $900. 1 owner, perfect condition. Instead I bought a 1952 Chevy 1 ton panel truck for $300 so I could haul my Yamaha Enduro around.

I personally prefer a '67 Chevelle over the later gens, but I do get what cuda is saying, in terms of being at car shows. They're usually not going to warrant a second look, but it's like anything else. A group may love them and others may not.
