I have decided what my next project/fun car will be.....C4

Will be looking to buy a C4 this summer/fall. Either a 1988 35th Anniversary or a 1987-1989 black with red guts coupe. Leaning towards the 35th anniversary. These things are so cheap right now and I've wanted one since before I could drive. Figured I might as well get one before prices start to go up.

Not a fan of C4's in general, but I guess I prefer whatever year they went rounded with sawblades

I like C4's... I just hate the interior (Yes, this coming from someone in an Fbody)

With that said, good luck! I'm anxious to see what you do with it.

BTW... can you even fit in a C4? You're huge and it does not look like it's made for a larger person.

My friend had an 87 in high school, it was slow with the L88 but I always thought it looked good and was fun to ride in. At the time at least, I loved the way you sat down in the C4s like the floor came up around you.

Was going to post that you should look at ZR1s, but just took a look and it seems like they've recently gone way up. About 2-3 years ago you could get a nice C4 ZR1 for under $15k, but now it looks like they're up around $30k. I was thinking about getting one a while back just figuring they were a rare model with a very unique engine.

I like the rims they had on the last few years of the c4 over the 80s rims. Those cars still handle well.

Grandsport with some black five spokes or nice set of custom wheels looked pretty good. Not my favorite model vette but if cheap and runs fine, it could be a fun car. I always liked how the front hood was a big clamshell.

Yes I can. I've driven a few before. It's the C3 that is a struggle. The '78 Pace Car is my favorite Corvette but it's an absolute bitch to drive one because of my height. Almost bought one when worked at Sewell because we traded for a one that was a 4 speed manual and it was miserable to drive because my knee was in the turn signal stalk.

I would seriously consider a ZR1 for the right price. It's not that hard to find one under $20k but I'm more a fan of the 1990 body style. I just hate the interior in the 90-96 Corvettes.

I do really like the Grand Sport. It's hard to find a good deal on one though. They're probably the priciest of the C4s.

I could stomach a LT4 or later year LT1 car. But beyond that I've just never liked C4's. The L98 cars are dogs, and the ergonomics are horrific, much like the build quality.

Of course feel free to point out the ironic stupidity of my love of 3rd Gens which share about every C4 flaw, although not as big a pain in the ass to work on.

1990 is the sweet spot, early body with the later interior.

I just never cared for that interior. To me, it's even more plasticy and crappy than what it had before. I like the layout of the 84-89 interior better. An 89 with a 6 speed would be the ideal car for me.

Just because you don’t know how to drive in the rain doesnt mean other people can’t.

Friend of mine's brother had one....a 90-something vert when we were in high school. Purplish/blue color....black interior....he used to pick me up in it and we'd go cruising in our senior year. That thing was tits.

I doubt we're in danger of C4's going up in value any time soon, there are so many out there. But, they are a fantastic value... good solid base engine for moderate HP, and they corner quite well. You should up your minimum year to '88; the changes to suspension, brakes and increase to 17" wheels makes '87 and earlier less desirable... they might have got a base HP bump too, can't remember... but it's a 350 SBC, base HP is immaterial.

I was at a dealership with my dad back in the '87 and he was looking to get a car instead of just using his work truck for everything. So I walked up to a nice white 'vette with porno red interior... probably an '84/'85. I go dad, this is the car you should get!

We drove out of there in a medium metallic green '73 Corolla Wagon.

Ahhhhhhhh that's what it is. I remember a guy that had 2 C4s. Both were "hard tops", but one looked different. I was curious as to what package it was, etc... it looked just like that.

Damn there's a lot of hate in here

I actually like the C4 quite a bit, especially the later years. How hard is it to swap an LS1 in there?

I'm with Cuda, I like the C4, but the later years, not the 80s models. And I'm pretty sure LS swaps are easy in then these days, needs a T56 to go with it too though

Callaway still makes the Aerobody kit for it. I would like a pale yellow Callaway aerobody, but don't know if I want to fork over 8k for the body kit.

I’ve read up on the swap... it’s not the best fit and requires a little fab... I want to say the starter location was an issue but I can’t remember exactly.

I bought a 1995 Corvette with 85k miles last October for $3,000. It had been sitting in a garage untouched for 6 years. I put new wheels and tires on it, cleaned it up good, lots of sanding and buffing, and have put around 3,000 miles on it. I couldn't pass it up for the price. I absolutely love the thing, and daily drive it. It's a bastard to get in and out of, but I'm also 6'5" tall and about 265 lbs lol. I figured I'd keep something else fun around to drive, so I would be less tempted to put miles on my IROC-Z.....which pretty much only goes to shows..

Oh, and if you're gonna get a C4, I highly recommend the 92-96. They are a way better car all around than the earlier C4's. Suspension, LT1 engine, dash, and just fit and finish of everything is better.

There was a grand sport at Mecum Kissimmee, 32k miles, 383 stroker motor, went for 22.5 grand with commission. It was clean too in person.

Always loved the C4 grand sports

Interesting, I guess I’ve just seen so many LS swapped C4s I assumed it was fairly straight forward

When 96 Grand Sports were on the lot they couldn't move the damned things, now they're highly sought after. The C4's are so bland, but I still wouldn't mind owning one, I just can't bring myself to buy the white New Balance and Jorts required to drive them.

There is a little car show that takes place near me every Sat from sometime in March to Thanksgiving. Anyway the last time I was there I saw a C4 that had the bigger wheel/lowered stance, pro touring look. It looked really sharp.
