What would you cross-shop with a Taurus SHO under $25k?

It's time for BLT to go. I've been looking at Taurus SHOs, Explorer Sports, 300Cs, pretty much anything that's reasonably sporty and has 4 doors. I'm not married to any one brand or style, key requirements are under $25k (closer to $20k preferable), cooled seats, low mileage. I'm not even opposed to imports if I can get it with a warranty. Reasonable fuel economy to me is anything over 20 mpg average. Basically no N/A 4 cylinders, everything else I'll consider.

What should I be looking at?

I’d choose the SHO given those requirements. Way better than anything by Subaru. The SHO drivetrain is pretty bulletproof.

Already talked to him about them

I looked into the SRTs but they don't fit my price range

Actually the only thing it doesnít have is cooled seats. Thereís no need for an extended/CPO warranty if you buy a Japanese car... But Iím sure that SHO is a lot faster than anything else on the list.

The 300S is the other one I've looked at extensively, even though it's a V6.

FWIW, I have a 2018 SHO and I really like the car. Yeah, it's big but it's also comfortable and pretty fast for a car of its size. I also never had cooled seats before but, now that I do, I'm hooked.

I know where 3 4-eyed GTs are sitting if anyone wants to overpay for pieces of junk that will need full restorations to achieve "like used car" status.

They're definitely on the upper limit if not just over your limit but that's a lot of car for the money. At least here, with reasonable miles, they're just under or just over $25k

Depends on your definition of low miles too though, maybe 40k is a bit high for you. Figured they were worth looking at though

The power take off (I think thats what they call it) on the cars needs fluid changes on the regular, but beyond that the drivetrain is pretty good. Guys are taking those things over 400 wheel hp without engine or tranny issues. They're comfy, fast, and affordable. I actually kind of want one myself

And yeah, cooled seats are awesome. They're like little angels... blowing on my testicles

I've looked at both of those $25k is my absolute limit. If the red one was black I'd consider it.

to all of the above. Honestly it's what I'm most leaning to, just wanted to see if there is something else similar I should consider.

It's not very fast or sporty but I got a 2015 4 door golf TDI that gives me 35mpg on the reg and registered as high as 53 on a long drive.

28k on the clock when I bought it, 15k out the door.

This post may not be helpful at all.

It doesnt have pictures but this car is loaded. Panoramic sunroof, vented front seats, adaptive cruise, lane assist, nav, 5.0 v8, 8 speed auto, 0-60 in 5 flat. Car still has 20k of manufacturer warranty and extended warranties are dirt cheap for them. Its white on tan.

The ex just got the v6 version of this car and it's pretty freaking nice.

2016 would likely still be under warranty and certifiable. Cadillac CPO takes the warranty to 6/100k.

Yeah we're just worried about freezing our asses off on cold seats up here... would use cooled seats one week out of the year. I am getting more and more impressed with this 2.0T though... in sport manual mode every time you upshift while the turbo is still spooled it's like hitting another TFAF naaaws boost... it's just night and day from the standard 2.5 NA engine.

Huh. I've seen those when I did an any manufacturer search but never really gave them any consideration. I did laugh when I saw a 2011ish E550 last night for dirt cheap

If you found a 2014 or up e550 I'd be interested. Below that, I'd definitely pass. 2014 and up has the same trans as e63 save for a torque converter instead of a clutch pack. The 4.7 twin turbo adapts most parts from the E63 as well, the exhaust manifold flanges are identical. Easy to find e63 turbos as well..

None the less, the genesis is a full fledged bells and whistles car. The ex car has adaptive sun shades too lol. I added 100k mile warranty to it for 1800.

Not interested in any older Mercedes at the moment. I'm trying to get away from maintenance costs

I've always been intrigued by the Genesis, I'll have to give them a more in depth look

fuck used german cars. do the asians make any interesting 4 doors other than that new hyundai/kia 3-series competitor?

that leaves you with american. chevy SS, dodge charger, chrysler 300, and ford SHO/lincoln MKS. i think there are concerns with higher mileage hemis, so really, you're down do SS or SHO/MKS. can you get an SS for under $25k? maybe the older pontiac variants?

i really like the SS, if you could find a way to get into one.

SHO/MKS ain't bad either. i liked mine. but, you'll take endless flak on here if you get one

I give zero fucks about taking flak, I've received more than enough of that with the truck Good question on the SS. Pretty sure they're still going for $30k+.

Looks like there are some available under $25k, but they're '14s and '15s with closer to 100k miles.

Meh. The last time I drove a Subaru I was in no way impressed with the driving experience. Granted, I don't recall now what year it was, probably late 00's or early 2010s.

Yeah that was why I said Pontiac G8 GT, you get an LS (6.0) and prices are much more reasonable, but now you're looking at something 11 model years old. GXP is the hotness with the LS3 and 6 speed but they hold their value even better than an SS.

'14 SS's tend to be the cheapest as they are auto only and no magentic suspension. Which with the spate of magnaride shock failures may not be a bad thing. I wouldn't shy away from a '14 with moderate miles if you can get it in your price range. LS3/6L80 is a pretty reliable combo.

There are a couple at the top of my range. Might have to give those some thought and see if I can find one local to drive. Never even sat in one. And I always liked the G8s, but the age is an issue for sure.

Depends on your definition of low miles too though, maybe 40k is a bit high for you. Figured they were worth looking at though
I 2nd these. But go for the premium package. The instrument cluster in the regular model is trash. But they run high 12s stock and pickup almost a sec with a tune if you care to go that route. And the handling is excellent.

I looked at them before but apparently I limited the year range to 2016 and newer

The thing is, a WRX is pretty mediocre compared to a lot of other cars in the segment, or with similar amenities... the Legacy even more so. They drive great but not all that fast and there are cars that go around corners better. But when you start looking at lightly used compact SUV’s, the same drivetrain becomes a lot more competitive... the only one clearly above it was the BMW X3 with the 3.0T. And of course now Subaru has ducked out of the running completely by nixing the XT in 2019. But that was the reasoning behind my purchase... needed a compact SUV for the family, had X amount of cash and didn’t want to risk it on an out-of-warranty X3.
