New to me car. Went in a very different direction than the truck.

Went out and looked at the Challenger first. Def a 20ft car. Paint was pretty bad in lots of spots. Had recently had the cam and crankshaft replaced for some reason. Aftermarket clutch, intake and shifter. Didn't sound nearly as good as my Charger did, and felt a good bit slower. Pass.

Then hit up the dealership that had the Evo VIII. Project car that had unknown mods in addition to bigger turbo, tune, intake, downpipe, boost controller etc etc. Looked like 4 or 5 people's project car that finally ended up there. Took it for a drive and the mapping was out of whack, or something. Under full throttle it felt like the injectors weren't keeping up or something. Pulled quite hard when it got the fuel, but it was basically a basket case.

Looked on the lot and saw a black BMW that looked pretty clean. Upon closer inspection it looked brand new, but sticker price was WAY too low for that. Turns out it is a 1 owner car, never left the island and is a 2013. 48k miles and in pristine condition. Honestly looks brand new, inside and out. Can't say I've ever seen a cleaner used car. Especially a 7yo one. Didn't have tags, and weird Hawaii rules or something keep them from using dealer plates, so I had to take it for a test drive at my own risk. Basically if I got pulled, I got a ticket. I was pretty interested by this time so I said WTH. All the mods are done tastefully and professionally. Rides really good for being so low, no body roll at all, and from the little bit I got on it it pulls hard, and sounds pretty damned amazing for a 6. Really surprised at that. Saw a cop on the way back but he was on his cell phone and didn't see us. So it is a 135i with the M Sport package, manual trans turbo 6.

List of what the previous owner did.

    JB4 Tune
    KW Coilovers Variant 3
    BMS oil catch can
    BMS catless downpipe 3.5"
    StopTech Drilled and slotted rotors
    Apex ARC-8 Rims
235/40/18 fr 265/35/18 back Pilot Super Sport tires
    Evo Racewerks Charge Pipe
Eiback fr and rear sway bars
    Cusco Tower struts
    AEM pod gauges
    VRSF 7.5" FMIC

It is on either the mid or lower tune right now, and I have no idea how much power it is making, but I'd say near 400 at this point. I pick it up on Tuesday hopefully, waiting on the tags, so have to wait till then to really see what it feels like at full bore. I think it will be really fun. Paid $19k for it. From looking around that seems to be about mid range for these cars, not counting the mods. I don't have anything left that I'd want to mod, pretty perfect as it sits. These are the dealer pics, only diff is it has tint now. Will be my first BMW and first turbo car. Time to do some research I guess

Neat little cars, but the exterior proportions are just... odd.

Did it come as Certified Pre-Owned with the 1 year warranty? Because if not, I'm not sure I'd want to own a 7 year old, out of warranty, BMW with a bunch of performance mods. Were the mods at least done by the dealer or a reputable shop?

At that price point, drive it till it breaks and kick it to the gutter(craigslist) for the next sucka.

    Nice purchase

Very fun and cool cars I think. We dropped the GF's 3 series off for routine service yesterday and I was drooling over this in the show room

I agree on the side profile look, it looks....droopy? a little. But the driving experience more than makes up for it.

100% but it was still beautiful

We in no way are looking at one. Next will be a 435i vert or a Jag F type and it's her car and she really wants the Jag. I am off put by a true 2 seater but we will see.

Her 3 series is still stupid clean and low miles so it will be a year or two.

I'm anxious to get more time behind the wheel to feel out the twin scroll turbo and see how it does for the lag.

Also have to try to figure out what tunes are loaded. Have watched some vids on the JB4 and will probably end up paying for the app to make it easier. Has an adaptive tune which seems pretty neat.

The F types sound really good, I'd probably go with them for that alone.

We are going to go drive one (we have not yet).

I will always have a truck/suv so I should not be too worried about a true 2 seater.

I love the 1 series because they look more like what the 3 series was when I was a kid. They were small cars that were supposed to be incredibly balanced almost gocart like smile machines.

At 19 grand I would have jumped on that deal.

I cannot wait to take it around some corners, it feels very balanced and with the suspension work it should be like a little go kart.

That was my feeling, that is a whole lotta fun for 19k.

I am sure it will be a blast and at that price point WITH an extended warranty you're not taking much of a risk.

Interesting in hearing how this works out. I wasn't aware any warranty period would officially cover a modded car.

The 1 series are cool cars. Small by today's standard but they seem to remind me of how cars used/should to be.

From talking to the people there it isn't as crazy here as it is on the mainland. They have "safety" inspections here and if your car is modded in any way there is an additional kinda of inspection you have to do. The dealer has their guy that does inspections for them on modded stuff. Since this car has a catless downpipe it technically won't pass any inspection on the island, but their guy passes it. I just go see them every year for the inspection.

You better read the fine print on that warranty. I've never seen one that will cover aftermarket mods.

You're taking an awfully big risk on that one. What if the guy quits? What if new ownership takes over? Then what? You're basically relying on a dealership's word that you won't have any problems with this. Personally, I'd run away from this but if you're ok with the risk, have fun with it.

    A year from now....................

426 takes the car in for inspection.
    It fails.
    426: "Why did it fail?"
Dealer: "Emissions. And it failed pretty badly, I think someone removed the cat."
426: "I bought it here. You guys said you'd pass it."
    Dealer: LOLWUT?

    It fails.

426: "I bought it here. You guys said you'd pass it."
    Dealer: LOLWUT?
Worst case I have to put the cat back on for inspection once a year. I have all the original parts.

Truck was just to have something practical since I was buying a 3rd vehicle. Didn't have an actual NEED for one, just figured if I'm buying something it should do something other than just basic transport. Ended up going with fun as the extra instead of hauling ability.

Like I said, I'll be confirming it. I haven't signed the contract yet.

i actually totally dig that. yeah yeah alleged extended warranty (good luck getting them to actually honor it) though -- i'd stick aside an extra $5k for repairs in case a used german car gonna' be a used german car.

This is pretty much what I was reading when I looked at X3's in my thread... unless it's CPO there's really no telling if your extended warranty is any good, and BMW only does a 1 year extension anyway. But it's a damn good deal... and BMW's are damn good cars if you maintain them by the book... first thing you need is a torque wrench, TFAR doesn't work.

Picked it up and got so spend a little driving time with it. Going to have to be careful, turbos are addictive and this little thing gets past Hawaii speed limits before I realize it half the time.

Turbo really kicks in at about 3k then pulls hard till 7k. The PSS tires hook quite well only allowing a little butt wiggle when I get on it in 2nd (with traction control on). Original owner said I'm free to call him or email him with any questions and that the car is making about 350hp at 16lbs right now.

Handles really well, shifts feel long for a car like this, but are crisp and easy.

Steering is heavy and gives great feedback.

Exhaust is really nice, not sure how you describe it but sounds pretty damned awesome for a 6. Of course the turbo sounds are fun.

All in all it is a super fun car.

You went from getting a truck to a car that would fit in the truck?

Seriously, I bet that thing is a hoot to drive.

A car that looks good from 20 feet away but when you get close to it, you see that the paint is pretty trashed.

Ah ok. The only thing I could think of is that it's 20 ft. long. Which it probably is.

Should be more than 350hp. Those engines have been known to be a bit underrated.

Congrats on the car! It looks great and I bet is a blast to drive. I had an E90 335i for a while and had very similar mods tho a different tune. I miss mine for sure, but I was over 100k miles and shit was starting to break so I got rid of it, and now have a Sonata. Talk about a kick in the balls

Agreed. I was making around 400hp at the wheels with the N54 engine (he has the N55, but essentially the same), tuned of course.
