That car that started the Pro-Touring craze is up for sale.

Mark Stielow's first Pro-Touring build from 25 years ago. Still looks amazing. This build is so old, it doesn't even have an LS. lol

I mean, it's cool but it's already bid way over what I would ever even consider paying for it. The "history" of it means next to nothing to everyone but a very, very small subsection of people. With that said, it's very nice.

You couldnt build that car for 81k at today's costs. Maybe if you already had the drive train.

I didn't realize one car started pro touring. Still looks great after 25 years.

That's a race car, not a pro-touring car. I see what you're saying but to me, that's more of an all out race car instead of a road/track car that could be daily driven.

Not only is it a race car, its primarily a land speed car, designed to go fast in a straight line

Pretty neat Steve bought it. I loved Bad Penny.

I also love Big Red Camaro, but like others said... it's an all-out race car.

The thing is, Stielow is credited for coining the term and I think he did that while building the white Camaro. According to a 2010 Hot Rod article, Big Red is a full tube chassis that happens to have some '69 Camaro sheet metal on it. I think that's why the white car is credited for starting Pro Touring, because it wasn't a full on race car and was still a very driveable street car.

Here's the article from 2010. it mentions both cars.

Here is a link from '08 that links scans from a '98 CHP article

    http://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php?p=184461

It actually has some roots back into the early '80's when Lil John Buttera built the Novette, a across between a early '60's Nova and a '84 Corvette suspension
