Fiat Chrysler Peugeot is a go!

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/fiat-ch...33235?mod=e2tw

"Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot Owner PSA Agree to Merge / John Elkann to become chairman of merged auto maker"

Welp, gonna need to brush up on my French

probably few changes for the US other than maybe trying to supplement Fiat shitboxes with Peugeot shitboxes at the Fiat dealers

Wow is this going to fail. You take 3 manufactures that really can't sell anything and mush them together. Can’t see Jeep and RAM sales keeping all 3 of them afloat.

If they agree to bring a street legal version of the 208 T16 rally car to the states, I'll allow the merger. Otherwise, not sure what value there is to adding a second econoshitbox brand to the company.

    1. Merge/eliminate vehicle platforms
    2. Merge/eliminate powetrains
    3. Merge/eliminate manufacturing, R&D, HR, finance, marketing, etc redundancies

If none of those 3 happen then it will be for naught; merging companies is hard, especially across long distances with different languages and cultures.

It's been what 10 years since Fiat and Chrysler merged and there are still plenty of things inside the company that haven't been combined. It's stupid costly to merge legacy IT systems.

Q3 results came out just a few min ago

EBIT for N.A. was 2B, 0.15B S.A. and then negative for Asia, Eu, ME, Africa and Maserati.

The USA does a really good job of subsidizing the rest and really has been for years.

If only they would start selling powerful cars. Or cop cars. Maybe mommy vans. Hey! They could probably make a small sports car capable of competing with the Miata! Or a small car to compete with the Cooper Mini.

People have been saying FCA would fail since the begining.

The only thing that confuses me is the current Buick Regal is a rebadged Opel, so does that mean the Regal is no more?

I think with the sale there was a supply agreement to cover it through either MY20 or 21.

FCA sells jeeps, rams, musclecars, and mini-vans well. Nothing else they have sells for shit. Carve off that business, which is plenty profitable, leave the rest to die. Why on earth would they add another shitty division that won't sell?

That because the only things Americans buy are SUVs, Trucks, and CUVs. Every major manufacturer is moving away from cars in the American market.

Jeep sells a fuck ton of CUVs in the form of the Cherokee (not grand), Compass, and Renegade. All three are big sellers. Jeep did not sit the CUV trend out.

Their "failure" is I guess not making Dodge versions of the little SUVs. I think they have already killed most Dodge cars.

PSA is #2 behind VW in the EU, I think FCA trying to get that market share back over there. They know hedging everything on trucks and SUVs won't last forever.

I doubt we'll even see anything of these cars over here in any capacity.

I never understood the point in breaking out the Ram brand. Everyone knows it's Dodge.

I had a Peugeot rental back in august. I believe I had a 306, diesel, and 6spd manual. Took it all over the south of france and it was just a fantastic car to drive around.

I've driven a RHD manual once. It wasn't too bad. You'd be fine.

Overall it wasnít as weird as I was expecting. The one bad day of driving we had would have sucked no matter what side the wheel was on.

The folks manning the front desk/bar told me even the locals avoid trying to drive where we ended up that day

I'd honestly be afraid of on instinct doing something LHD me was used to doing and having an accident (this has nothing to do with stick, that's irrelevant). I'd rather use Uber and trust a native RHD driver over myself trying to do everything backwards.

Buy one and you’ll be visiting the dealer more than you wish, i.g. recalls, just like all fca products are currently.

Old post but are the muscle cars really selling that well considering the power dollars incentive had been running for the past few months?

It's interesting, Elkann will be the head of the new company so the Agnelli family / Exor will be the primary shareholder so will hold huge/nearly complete sway but Tavares will be the combined CEO. Typically I treat the surviving CEO as the winner, but the Agnelli family maintaining control I think makes them the winner, not really FCA or PSA.

Other than the 208 T16 rally car (or really, the way tamer 208 GTi production version) that you'd actually want them to?

Agnelli family did very well in this deal. I do think the company will be very successful. There is a tremendous cost cutting potential in Europe and RAM and Jeep will continue doing its thing.....
