    Motortrend C8 Corvette Z51 Test

With launch control engaged and 61 percent of the weight on the rear tires, the C8 Corvette Z51 shot to 60 mph in a staggering 2.8 seconds on the way to an 11.1-second quarter mile at 123.2 mph.

They do. Both the summer only and all season tires are run flat.

SmokingTire post a One-Take last night. Matt’s opinion was that the car was fantastic on the track, still a corvette (ridiculous interior, cheap plastics in areas that aren’t touched often but better than C7 materials), all around bargain for $85k (Z51 LT3 car)

I'm eagerly awaiting Randy Pobst's lap around Laguna Seca. Most of the reviews have noted that the car has quite a bit of understeer, which appears to be dialed in purposely by GM. The car seems to have an amazing ride on the street. Like luxury sedan ride quality in touring mode. Pretty impressive for those that want a great touring car. I'm anxious to hear how the ride quality is on non Mag Ride Z51 cars.

If the ride is remotely similar to my old Caddy CTS-V mag ride control its going to be fantastic. That was such a great car to drive around in. And amazing the difference between modes. (How much it firms up when you go to sport.)

So mag tests are already out on the C8 and Ford still has their thumb up their ass with the GT500?

Within that test, there's a link to their C8 vs. 911 comparison as well:

Wow. The vette beat the 911S.... from a magazine that once crowned an E36 M3 the “King of Power” against a C5 when it lost every objective measurement of performance.

I want to see how the base $60k vette holds up.

I was watching this video during lunch, he seems to toss it around pretty good and it holds up.

The 11.2 is starting to make more sense now.

In 5th gear (1 to 1 gear ratio) 561 hp and 515 lb-ft of torque at the wheels

Although it's a little confusing, not exactly sure what the number is.................

Damn. That's quite a difference. Need to see another car dyno'd to see if this consistent.

also no way a 6.2 engine with a redline that is just a little over 6k is rpm is making that much power and has a smooth idle

Uh oh. That sounds like the press test car was released with a non-production engine or tune. Normally I would say user error on correction factors, etc on the dyno, but they claim the Ram produced "normal" figures.

Typical mag article, no mention of correction factors. Regardless of power, the other performance numbers are badass & the car is a helluva value

yeah thats off. but when heavier ss camaros can trap 115+ with less HP and with shittier tires, the vette's time doesn't seem out of line for 495hp.

The 5.0's are trapping 118-119 with the 10 speed in mags, so the corvette times are easily believable at 495hp.

More than likely, those who buy them will have never driven a mid-engine car or one that hits 60 in less time than it takes to start the engine. Severe understeer will help prevent the overeager owners from pulling a Mustang exit at their local cars and coffee.

My SS ran almost identical times as the Corvette, 11.2 @ 122 mph, with 492 rwhp and my car for sure weighs more than the Vette.

How much does your car weigh? Curb weight a standard 2SS is around 3700 pounds. C8 is almost 3400 dry weight. They haven't published the official curb weight yet but I'm guessing it will be over 3600 pounds with fluids.

I've never weighed it but the only weight reduction it has is a drag pack and I weigh 175 so I am assuming my car weighs 3800+ with me in it.

I'd bet that a 3LT Z51 that's loaded will be almost the same.

Phat cat is correct. And the scat pack doesn't make 600+ hp. No way they are getting that much power in factory form without some "help".

The C8 doesn't make 600hp either, . I don't care what that dyno showed, the C8 isn't making that kind of power with the LT2. I thought you were referring to the 495 hp rating.

Yea I was just making the point that it ain't making that kind of power while passing emissions, have a smooth idle, and hit reliability targets.

To be fair if they were going to send out a ringer (not to think they did) there's nothing that would hold them to stock displacement.

Anyone who thought it was underrated by 150 horsepower is a retard. Even if it were a ringer they sent in for the test, it would be like maybe 30-40 hp over spec, not 150. My guess is something funky was going on with the DCT that was showing a high flash value like in an auto with a converter, either that or the dyno operator is just a moron and plugged in some incorrect adjustment factor.

the quarter mile time is totally in line, if you compare it to the mustang, ss, and scat pack, take away all the extra weight, and add some power. it's not underrated. that's what 495hp with a modern auto in a 3400lb car with big tires will do.
