    Love Affair With Chevy Colorados?

So, what is the obsession with this thing? Is it the cool offroad styling coupled with the diesel engine? Or am I missing something?

I wasn't aware anyone was obsessed with them. Basically the same as every other midsize. Underpowered.
The Baby Dmax gets good mpg, but they can keep anything with a timing belt. It is also very gutless for daily driving. Also, fuck a (new) diesel. As for the 3.6 it's a car engine, and makes a car powerband.

Rest of the drivetrain is sound, provided it's a 10spd model, and not an 8.
The regular ones look mismatched, like the current full size. Ass end looks 6in higher than the front.
I will say, that the Zr2s look damn good. I'd seriously consider a Zr2 IF they put the 5.3 in there,as I really like the size of a midsize Vs a full.

275ft lbs is NOT enough grunt to move a truck of that weight.
It needs to be making that much at 2,000 rpm, not 4,000.

My wife loves hers; just the right size with plenty of utility. We have the gasser, and it has good power and a nice ride. It served us well on vacation last week in the deep sand at Cape Hatteras.

Not so deep sand in this pic though!

Hmmm....I guess I got the impression that these things were hard to get a hold of and difficult to find in certain configurations...

I see quite a few on the road, but never a Dmax one. Only seen 2 in my life.

MFGs all jumped, because the public said they wanted a small truck, with a diesel.
Yeah, they wanted a small diesel from 25yrs ago. Not a new, EPA plauged, wildly expensive, and overall unreliable diesel.

They are heavily discounted around here, and pretty much whatever you want is available.

I loved mine. Despite what NFB says, the 3.6 was plenty for that truck. Not sure if he has any real seat time in one or if he's just spouting shit out of his ass but I never had an issue with it and it would even pull the Chevelle with no issues. Not as good as with my full size crew cab 5.3(duh) but I never felt like I really NEEDED more truck to pull it.

Cousin and a close friend have one. Both 3.6/8spd.
Drove my cousin's while pulling a car hauler, with a Honda quad on it, which maybe weighed 2,200lbs total.
Yeah,it pulled it, but was downshifting, and reving it's guts out to maintain 70mph.

Buddies is working to pull a 21ft Ranger Bass boat. Same thing. Fine moving through town, under 45mph,but to maintain hwy speeds takes a lot of throttle.

So, basically it's working to tow about half of what GM rates then to pull.
I have a big gripe with tow ratings as they are, but imo, GM's rating for the twins aren't even close to what I'd consider to be adequate power, and I'm not a biased, diesel owner that thinks you need 1,000ft lbs to tow a Jet Ski.

I like everything else about them. Both rode better than new half tons, interior was laid out well, good size cab for my height, ect. Just gutless.

They are every where around but so are all trucks. IMO people are getting tired of trucks getting bigger. I know I've been looking for a smaller truck but they are way over priced.

The bottom line on them is comparable to a full size.
Full size stickers higher, but bigger discounts. End price is very close.

yep but I bet people will buy them just because they dont want to have that bigger vehicle. 4 door trucks suck to park in parking decks.

Thatís why my brother bought one, smaller and easier to drive slightly better mpg and can still do what he needs of a truck which isnít much..lol

The recent EPA crack-down will be rough on new owners until the newer models come out with the EGR scavenging taking place after the DPF. Current configurations are dumping soot back into the engine and really messing them up unless you already got your tune.

My buddy has a small crew that all have them with diesels and off road the shit out to them. They seem to praise them for the most part.

I know most all of them including my friends went in and had the frame strengthened/ re-enforced in that rear area that has bent before. Also my buddies as I posted here had the GM issue with the airbags coming out when not in an accident but he still kept it so he must still overall love it.

The ZR2 is one of only three vehicles available with a locker for the front axle along with a rear locker. The other 2 being Ram Power Wagon and Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator Rubicon. That's pretty cool.

My gf has the diesel and despite what the guy above says, it has plenty of power, especially for daily driving. Hell, she cant leave a stoplight on a wet street aggressively or the tires will spin

Yeah, I'm sure one better be super conservative when applying 181hp.

It's probably a truck better suited to more experienced drivers
