If you had a choice between Porsche 911s, GT3 or Turbo S?

    2019 Porsche 911 GT3

    Engine layout Rear-engine
    Design and cylinders Boxer 6
    Bore 102.0 mm
    Stroke 81.5 mm
    Displacement 4.0 l
    Max. power 500 hp
Max. power at rpm 8,250 rpm
    Max. torque 339 lb-ft
Max. torque at rpm 6,000 rpm
    Compression ratio 13.3 : 1
    Max. engine speed 9,000 rpm
    Power-to-weight ratio (Manual) 6.3 lb/hp
    Power-to-weight ratio (PDK (Automatic)) 6.4 lb/hp
    Wheels (front) 9 J x 20 ET 55
    Tires (front) 245 / 35 ZR 20
    Wheels (rear) 12 J x 20 ET 47
    Tires (rear) 305 / 30 ZR 20
Limited-slip differential Electronically controlled locking rear differential
    Curb weight (Manual) 3,116 lb
    Curb weight (PDK (Automatic)) 3,153

    2019 Porsche 911 Turbo S

    Engine
    Engine layout Rear-engine
Design and cylinders Twin-turbocharged boxer 6
    Bore 102.0 mm
    Stroke 77.5 mm
    Displacement 3.8 l
    Max. power 580 hp
Max. power at rpm 6,750 rpm
    Max. torque 516 lb-ft
Max. torque at rpm 2,100 - 4,250 rpm
    Compression ratio 9.8 : 1
    Max. engine speed 7,200 rpm
    Wheels (front) 9 J x 20 ET 51
    Tires (front) 245 / 35 ZR 20
    Wheels (rear) 11.5 J x 20 ET 56
    Tires (rear) 305 / 30 ZR 20
    Curb weight 3,528 lb

Pros for GT3: 3,100lbs, revs to 9,000 rpms, 4.0L flat six is one of the best sound cars on the market, stays truist to the 911 namesake.

Pros for Turbo S. More power throughout the powerband, extremely modable for more power, AWD.

Which model would you choose if given a choice?

Gt3 only bc manual, otherwise I'd have the turbo. I drove a new 992 S PDK and as good as it was, I'd rather have a manual. Simply more engaging.

Tough call... the manual would be fun, but the PDK seems pretty awesome.

I'd make that call simply by how many miles it'd need to be driven. If it's like my 3rd car GT3 but if its my 2nd I'd go turbo. But I'm sure I'd be happy with either.

Had the choice. Picked a turbo. Would go with GT3 if I made the choice again. If you put a lot of miles on it turbo is only way to go.

At sea level I'd go GT3. Up here in Colorado I'd have to go with the turbo. I bet that GT3 is a blast to drive with the 9k rpm engine and a manual. Either car is ridiculously fast.

I am antiquated, I still love a true manual transmission. That would be a deciding factor for me. I have bought 3 performance/pony cars in my life. The first was a manual that I traded in on my 2nd which was auto and I regretted itz so my 3rd was back to a manual and I love it.

As has already been accurately stated: daily car would be the Turbo S, no question. Weekend car would be a GT3 without hesitation.

Yes. Deal went very smoothly.. I need to follow up with Carfax to correct the "auto auction" sale, but I plan to keep it indefinitely so whatever.

A gt3 is a track car. Vocal, peaky and super stiff. The turbo s is faster in the real world and a bit more user friendly.

No shit, really? What led you to believe a car with no factory rear seat, a 9k rpm redline, and sport cup 2 R tires is designed for the track and a similar car with 500lb ft at 1800rpm is faster on the street?

Actually it is not the tq, but the awd that in my mind makes the turbo faster in the real world

Congrats on the 997.2 turbo s. My wife drove for 50k miles a turbo cab of the same vintage and all that broke was the hydraulics for the rear wing.

Which 2wd model can't put its power down effectively?
