    **New Jeep**

    LS2 is an expensive influencer.

Back towards the end of May, I ordered a JLU Rubicon w/ a 6-speed. It came in on Monday and I picked it up yesterday evening.

    Options:
    - Towing Package
    - LED Package
    - Black Leather Seats
    - Heated Seats/Steering Wheel
    - 8.4" Informant System
    - Alpine Premium System w/ Sub.
    - Painted Hardtop
    - Painted Fenders
    - Hardtop Headliner

The windows should be tinted on Saturday.

    Future mods will potentially be:

Tazer Mini programmer (Takes care of a few odd things that FCA made a standard behavior)
    Wheels (Already picked out)
35" Tires for the time being.
    Rock Sliders
Front/Rear bumpers (Probably going w/ Poison Spyder Crawler)
Winch (Still undecided if I want to go w/ another cable or synthetic)
2.5" Lift (Probably going w/ Rock Krawler)
    B&M Sport Shifter

I'm holding out for the stupid diesel.

Great looking Jeep Dan. You'll probably keep that thing 30 years.

The Diesel was thought to be an option for 2020, but looks like that's not going to happen.

That 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder is a great option (still a little early for me to feel comfortable considering one). It's not available in a 6-speed, so it wasn't an option for me.

Thanks. And nothing against the 8-speed. It's an awesome transmission and has many advantages over the 6-speed (and is paired really well w/ either engine choice). I just really enjoy driving a manual.

This is the B&M sport shifter that I want to eventually get:

I also like it b/c I can swap out the shift knob to something else.

I have the same one in my TJ and I love it:

I’m surprised B&M makes a shifter for a Jeep. Looks good in white

Very nice Dan. Only thing I'd change is the dual top option. The new soft top is a pleasure to put up and down. Easily the biggest improvement over the JK. Congrats!

For the time being. I'll probably leave it at my parents' house and let them use it around their land. It's not worth enough to justify me selling it. I'd imagine it'd only sell for $5k-$6k. So until I figure out what I want to do w/ it, it'll probably go to their house so they can use it like a big side-by-side.

Thanks. I didn't worry w/ the dual top b/c I don't care to have a soft top. I'm not a fan of how the back looks w/ the overhang either when the sides are off of the soft top.

I did test drive a 2-door w/ the soft top and was surprised at how solid it was. Granted, it was brand new, but still... much better than other soft tops I've been in.

I told them to leave the plastic on it... that I wanted to take it off. They did. They also didn't wash it (upon my request). On the drive home, I hit a ton of bugs, so later last NIGHT, I was out washing it. Washing the top was a PITA since I didn't have much of a step and I didn't want to keep the door open while washing, so I used my TJ (since it was parked really close) to help me wash the top... then I had to get a 2-step ladder/stool to get the other side. So I guess some rock sliders w/ a step, like Jeeplaw just installed, will be purchased before too long. The stock ones are far from being a step.

Honestly I would probably prefer a manual wrangler as well. I miss driving a manual (I guess "standard" is no longer a valid term)

Nope... even though the 8-speed auto gets sold in 90% of the Jeeps today. Because of this, I think the standard should be the 8-speed and the 6-speed should be a cost-savings option.

Yea. I have an LS1 out of an 04 Corvette with 41k miles on it. Problem is the engine is only a small expense on the project as a whole.

I figured with as much as you go top down you'd want that option considering the PITA that taking off the hard top is. Unless you get one of the ceiling winch setups that is.

    Looks great though, congrats again.

213k... probably closer to 220k. I went a long time w/ larger tires before I changed the gear that would correct the speedometer & odometer.

I was dead set on getting a 2-door even though 5 of the 7 JLs we drove were 4-door. I had tunnel vision and said I didn't need a 4-door and it was never a consideration. Then, my parents met us at the last dealership (that I ended up ordering from) and went w/ us on a test drive in a black Rubicon 4-door. My dad sat up front w/ me and my wife and my mom were in the back seat. They were talking about how comfortable it was back there, that they had plenty of room, etc... I said "Yea, but could you ride back there for a long-period of time?" and they both agreed that it wouldn't have been an issue. I then thought about how fun it'd be to take another couple we're friends w/ on a trip. We'd have plenty of room behind the seat for luggage, etc. So when the guy at the dealership was drawing up a quote for a 2-door, I told him to do the same for a 4-door as well. I figured the price difference would help seal the deal in me getting the 2-door. I thought it'd be similar to buying a gas burner F250 VS a diesel F250... like $5k-$8k difference. Nope. He came back and the quote showed only a $1,300 difference in price from the 2-door to a 4-door. I was floored and a bit annoyed b/c he just made the decision a LOT harder. We left the dealership and pondered it for a few days. I asked quite a few other folks (including Jeeplaw, CT Morgan, and I may have even asked you, too lol) that either had a 4-door or went from a 2 to a 4-door if they had any regrets, etc... It was almost an entirely unanimous response of "Absolutely not." I then thought it would be too long for my liking. Decided to put that at ease and looked up the length of the 4-door compared to my TJ... 30 inches is all it is. That's it. Hell, there's a 50" difference (IIRC) b/t the 4-door and a crew cab silverado. I guess they aren't as long as I thought they were. My wife said "It's shorter than my car." I told her it wasn't... it just seems that way. She was insistent so I Googled a 2008 Acura TL VS a JLU. She was right. The Jeep is 1" shorter. Something in my head told me it was longer. Oh well. Every one of my road blocks were getting knocked down and then I started considering the practicality and convenience of the 4-door. Also, the fact the 4-door will pull almost twice as much as the 2-door (3,500 lbs VS 2,000 lbs, respectively). While that's not a high towing capacity by any means, it's at least something vs very little. Every Jeep page I went to were almost all 4-doors and they looked good. I do think the 2-door w/ the top off looks better than the 4-door w/ the top off. I am not a huge fan of the slanted rollbar on the back of the 4-door. Another thing I found out later was how many more aftermarket options are available for the 4-door over the 2-door. Roof racks, if I ever cared to get one, and a lot of other stuff... mostly made for camping/trail riding.

As far as the top and fenders... The black top was the only consideration. The fenders were getting painted regardless. My TJ has painted fenders and I like it and wanted this one to have the same. The top though, I kept going back and forth. Ultimately came down to slightly preferring the look of the painted white top just a little more. That and if I ever decided I wanted the white top later, it'd be expensive and a PITA to make that happen... whereas if I wanted a black top, I'd have a much higher chance of getting one and probably a good bit cheaper. So I went w/ the painted top. I do love both options on the blue like Jeeplaw has. His has a black top and I think it looks great on there.

BTW... Jeeplaw, CT Morgan, Jack Daniels. Did y'all do any sort of break-in when you got yours? The manual says the engine and drivetrain/axles don't need one, but it's desirable to keep it b/t 50-55 for the first 300 miles. I've got around 150 miles on it now and I know 30 miles of that has been on the interstate at interstate speeds. (Didn't consider a break-in period)

    Nice Jeep.

I still think it's crazy that you can fit 35s on a stock JL Rubi, 37's with a 2.5" lift, and 40's with a 2.5" lift and a little fender trimming.

And the Gladiator Rubicon has even more room for a bigger tire than the JLU.

That's pretty standard across the industry I think. The only acceptions are things like LT4 equipped cars that require a 1500 mile break in.

Something that is not little is this big-ole key fob. It's freakin' huge. I've heard it isn't even effectively waterproof.

It is enormous. But, I found that it fits in the little coin pocket of your jeans perfectly. Stopped being an issue after I figured that out.

I guess it'd be better if I didn't have my other Jeep key (and associated keys) also hooked to it.

I've got to get a spare house key made. Or, I know I know... get a numberpad lock on our door.

All that and you still cant decided on a damn watch

I've got around 150 miles on it now and I know 30 miles of that has been on the interstate at interstate speeds. (Didn't consider a break-in period)
    Nope.

To be fair, CT Morgan doesnt keep vehicles much past break-in to be concerned with break-in

Nope. Still haven't figured out how I'm going to handle that. I think the seats will be safe from him, but the hair, that's a different issue. And I really like the new-car smell.

The cloth on the back of the rear leather seats is a pet hair magnet. It is a serious pain in the ass to get out. Best solution is to die Walle's hair black.

Don't let an asshole friend ride in your car.

I'd had my Mach 1 mustang for one day when I stupidly let an asshole friend ride with me to lunch. Motherfucker comments on the new car smell, then farts
