Wife is looking for a new car

Like the title states the wife is wanting a newer vehicle. She is currently driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla that has served her well. With us now having 2 sons she is wanting something bigger. She is currently looking at the 2017/18 Chevy Traverse/Acadia. She wants something with 3rd row seating but nothing big like the Yukon/Tahoe. She is also trying to keep it under $24000.

After researching the Traverse, I see a lot of people saying to steer clear. most of those are referring to a bad timing chain set up. It looks like the 2017s and newer have fixed that issue. Are there any other reasons to not buy one? Is there something else you that you would look at the may work with her request?

    Thanks for any input.

No joke, Chrysler minivan. 24 grand should get you a pretty loaded, used one with low miles.

The space is hard to beat, plenty of storage, great features. They aren't sexy, but she will love it.

Just get a Tahoe -- they are dead nuts reliable with the 5.3 and there are plenty of good used ones out there.

We got a Tahoe 3 years ago, and I wish I could DD it.

Agreed, Tahoes are great vehicles and go forever.

    To be clear:

If you won't have to drive it or be seen in it, minivan is the most economical and practical solution. If you'll have to drive it or be seen in it, definitely get the Tahoe.

My wife's Journey has a pop up 3rd row. It's only one step away from a mini van, but at least if you do have to drive it, it's not actually a mini van. They're also very affordable. I think we paid less than 20 for her's that was only a year or 2 old.

The problem is the 3rd row is not useable at all. Even my wife didn't have enough leg room and she is 1 inch shorter than I am.

You can blame JD for that when he specifically said NO JEEP and LS2 persuaded he and his wife to get a new Jeep.

meh WGAF. I rented and drove one to utah and back and loved that thing. Practicality goes a long way (with getting older, I guess lol)

That's the point of those tiny seats - they're entirely usable for little kids, but don't take up much room so you can cram them in vehicles that can't fit a real 3rd row.

We rented a minivan to go visit family in Spring, Texas. After driving it from Baton Rouge it's nice but we both agreed she doesn't want one. I will present her with the LS2 suggestions:

    MDX with running boards
    Foxbody w/ dumped flows
    Sky redline
    Ford Raptor
    Tahoe
    Jeep

I live in Spring too. I echo the Yukon/ Tahoe suggestion, but also would suggest a 2012 Cadillac CTS-V wagon. Clearly there are no alternatives to that.

Pontiac Aztek? Seems to check all the boxes. Plus you have a pop up tent/ camper for when your wife kicks you out of the house.

We passed by the McLaren dealership on our way home and looked at those. They had one on sale and it checked most of our boxes but the dash needed to be replaced. So no go on that.
