This happened not far from where I live, really terrible as a lot of nice third gens got burnt up, along with some other good 90s stuff.

Friend of mine lost two beautiful 80's Camaros there, an RS and an IROC. Sad, most likely not replaceable - wonder if there is enough insurance to cover the losses.

    Fortunately, no Pontiacs were harmed.

Exactly- not sure of the exact financials, but I think my friend was renting the cars to the producer. Pretty sad, he owned one of them for something like 21 years. Had three in his garage, lost two.

Unless they had zero miles, I'm not seeing how they're not replaceable. There are still a lot of nice, original, low mileage 3rd gens out there.

yeah but you have to hunt for them a bit .. and find owners willing to sell assuming they were in good shape even if they had over 100k miles.

Maybe not irreplaceable, but insurance is probably not going to give you a ton for it

With older/collectible cars there are special policies or insurance companies you can use to protect the actual value of the car, which will often be more than a simple insurance book value.
    Hopefully they were properly insured.

This. Owner is a fool if he didn't have a policy with a set replacement value on each car. The policy we have on the Chevelle is set at a certain amount and if it gets totalled, that's what we get. There is nothing else that is factored in. We tell them how much to value it at and that's what the policy is based on. Now, you can't just name some crazy high amount without having something to back it up. We couldn't say $100k on our Chevelle and call it a day. We would have to show the reason for that valuation. The companies that specialize in older cars have a decent idea of collector car value. In some cases, they will require a professional appraisal.

I'd say that pretty accurately describes them. They're from the 80s so yeah, vintage.
