2020 Ford Mustang High Performance 2.3L First Look: AutoXer?

A lot of noise (and tire smoke) gets made at the high end of the pony/muscle-car performance spectrum, with cars like the Challenger Hellcat Redeye, the Camaro ZL1, and the forthcoming Shelby GT500 vying for bragging rights in horsepower, quarter-mile stats, or lap times. Now Ford is once again showing some love to the half […]

I hate the color and the wheels, but that's a good looking car.
Make one in blue with chrome wheels and it would be beautiful.

It’s the 2.3L out of the Focus RS but with all the 2.3L EcoBoost, the moment you make any kind of respectable power, you’re blowing headgaskets left and right.

Really? So the focus RS is a complete pile of shit it sounds like. Garbage rear diff. Garbage motor. Crap suspension and mediocre rest of drivetrain. Lol.

Pretty much. You can make power with the 2.3L EcoBoost, but you’ll be like the turbo rotary guys replacing head gaskets every 10,000 miles. In the Mustang forums, most EcoBoost owners purposely try not to go over 350-375 horsepower to the wheels because the moment you do, it’s not a matter of if but when the head gasket will fail.

Friend put a rod through the block of his '16 EB Mustang with only the Ford Racing tune. Ford replaced the long block, reused the turbo & some other stuff. Car reads it's making 40lbs of boost

Why is it Ford can put together a V6 that does just fine with boost, and then they totally fuck up the four cylinder? Did they have mazda design it?

I forgot to mention, you’re one of the lucky ones if you simply have never ending failed head gaskets.

Stock, the 2.3L EcoBoost is fairly reliable. For the majority of people who are buying the EcoBoost Mustang, non-performance oriented types, it fits the bill. Even though, from what I’ve gathered, the 2.3L EcoBoost is at its limit’s stock power wise if you want a reliable vehicle.

To be fair you would have to be pretty stupid to buy an ecoboost mustang with the intentions of modding way beyond an intake/tune. If someone can afford to drop thousands into it they should have just gotten a 5.0.

If it doesn't nose over at the high rpm's like the current 2.3 it might pick up a decent amount. They should have just made it the baseline engine though.

Wouldn’t be a mustang if there wasn’t a chance the motor could blow at any given moment.
