Ordered a 2019 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon

So after much deliberation, decided to part ways with my '16 Scatpack Charger. Great, great car but not really the right car for "right now". Wife and I have been talking about doing more travelling, camping, doing more outdoorsy stuff with the kids and yea, the Yukon could have fit the bill, but she wants to start trail riding again.

Yea, sucks to have a jeep wife, I know. This will be my 3rd jeep after my CJ7, my TJ and now the JL. She was around for my TJ.

Texas Auto Direct gave me $29,500 for my Charger with 19,000 miles on it. No complaints there.

So on 4/1 put the order in on:

    JlUR
    Hardtop
    8.4inch infotainment group
Auto (all my previous were manuals)
    Leather
    LED lights
    Tow group
    Remote Start
    3.6l vs the 2.0 turbo..chose the 3.6

That exact build was impossible to find on the bros, so I had to order. Demontrond out in Conroe has a sales guy wellllll known in the jeep community. Easiest transaction ever. Email him the build, ask for 7% under invoice, he gives me 6 (I didn't have the tread lightly discount) and we call it a day. Before ttl, its roughly 45.2k

So yea, I've been tracking the build since I got my vin, so I just got the build sheet from the factory this morning. This is my first order purchase, so I'm super stoked. My charger was my first "new" car purchase on the lot, but I found that one

Jeeps man...just when you think you're out..they suck you back in again lol. Going to enjoy the hell out of it with my daughters this time around, cant wait.

This is about what it will look like when it comes in

Already planning on doing a 2" lift in my driveway, it's pretty straight forward. I've wrenched on my others this will be no different. And yea, won't be a mall crawler. Already talking to local trail ride groups. No bullshit 20" fuel wheels here. No offense to mall crawlers lol

    Just empty every pocket..

    Congrats.

You won’t fit in without the 20 inch Jeep ricer wheels though.

Super nice bro. I was also on the fence with the Jeep but ended up with a Bison. Ordering a car was the most nerve racking thing I did car related. Good luck bro. Start looking for mods.

What made you go with the 3.6 over the 2.0T ?

Test drove both, liked the more linear on demand torque of the 3.6l, plus i'm sort of turned off by going with a brand new, start of life engine. 3.6l is a known entity

I would like a few years old JL 2-door Sahara, but it'll still be a while before they come down in price.

I have the 3.6 and 8 speed in my GC and have zero complaints, was just curious how it compares to the 2.0T since that’s an added cost option.

The 2.0T is better once the turbo spools up, but the initial delay isn't the best. It really should have been a 2.3L in that heavy of a vehicle.

    My jeeps through the years

    '83 CJ-7

I daily'd that CJ for 3 years, while trailing it too. So so many u-joints...blown head gasket? No problem..just keep adding oil and send it...

My townhouse parking people loved the constant oil lake beneath my jeep lol

    '02 TJ

right before I sold it after moving to TX

    On to the next...

Ordered on 4/1, picked it up 5/2!

Im amazed how far this platform has come. Quality of ride is better than any TJ or JK I've ridden in. Trying to pace my mods..37's incoming, a lift, and rock sliders with steps

I love the dash layout in the JL's. I wish I could put that same dash in my TJ.

I haven't seen a whole lot of modified JL's. Curious to see what they look like w/ aftermarket fenders.

I see a lot of them around my area. They basically look like a stock JL, but with different fenders.

    I hope that helps.

Very nice! I love that color too.

So much that I might have picked up one very similar (with body colored roof and steel bumpers though) last week. Little Mopar 2" lift installed. I just went with 35s... for now. The 8spd/3.6 combo is outstanding.

No. I intend to have my lil girls wrench on my wrangler as much as possible. Good way to get them appreciate what they will potentially drive. Just get her to respect the jeep.

If it’s the same one that wrecked the minivan, I think you know the answer. Another thing to consider is that older jeeps aren’t that safe.

No the one that wrecked the minivan has a truck. She is actually a great driver, no tickets inside of her first 3 years of driving other than that wreck. The wreck was her fault for sure but it was a horrible design that the country changed the intersection the next week. The accident investigator told my wife that he was working an average of 5 to 6 wrecks a week at that same spot. It appeared to be a 4 way stop, but her stop sign was actually before the intersection and under a bridge. So people come to a full stop and then take off not knowing that the crossing 5raffic has right of way and had no stop sign. They moved the stop sign forward after her wreck and added large flashing signs warning people about cross traffic.

Unless it's a newer one yes. A 16 year old in a shitty handling, easy to flip over, vehicle that crashes poorly seems like a terrible idea.

How old can it be and you would consider it safe? What year model do I use as my baseline?

Still not a great car for a kid IMO.

    All of this.

Get whatever the newest vehicle you can afford with the most safety features. For the first (and hopefully last) time in my life I had to use a vehicle airbag last week, and it helped me walk away from an accident with far fewer injuries.

Malibu or a Fusion that has some years, little more meat for safety than a Cruze/Focus, still fairly cheap used

OP, do all Rubicons come with the red dash? For grins, I was building one on Jeep's site and that appears to be the only one available, but that wasn't the case for other packages. If so, I'm surprised they'd limit it to just the one color. I kinda figured they'd let you color coordinate the dash with the exterior color, like Pontiac did with the gauge cluster on the GTO.

Dan, I'm pretty sure if you ordered tan leather, then you'd get the silver dash.

Also, some exterior colors are tied to the silver dash as well:: mojito, punkin and nacho i believe. There are some people already modding their dashes by buying a can of paint and a clearcoat off amazon and just redoing the dash in the color they want.

I really like the Billet Silver and the white. That silver is pretty sharp though.

If I keep looking at these, I'm going to ruin myself and go test-drive one.

We came close to getting a white one. Then we saw the granite crystal.

Jeep's site says the auto is an extra cost option. I have not seen one picture away from Jeep.com of a 6-speed JL. I wonder how rare they are/will be.

I bet you'd have to order that and wait.

BTW, seems it's an easy swap for the dash pieces. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/for...lacement.3497/

They're pretty damn rare. I came this close to ordering one, but read about a ton of people bitching about pedal travel and clutch pickup and I was like, nah, forget it. Plus, the way I'll be travelling with this rig, I don't want to be stuck in traffic anymore with a stick. All my other jeeps were manuals and I did that life for a long time. I'm good now lol

Do it. You wont't be disappointed. The JL is head and shoulders above the JK.

Plus that remote start that turns on the heated seats and steering wheel in the winter though.

Can't do that with a manual unless you go out and start it.

    That doesn't matter to me.
