That Swanky $70,000 Pickup Might Not Be Worth It

A dusty fracker deep in the North Dakota oil fields*scrambles into his shiny new pickup*and pushes the electronic ignition. He settles in as*the calming*fragrance of cedar whispers*from the*vent. Reaching behind, he*pulls a*cold kombucha*from the built-in chiller. As*a man-made starscape*flickers on the headliner, he sits back and lets the truck drive*him home. Of course, this vehicle […]

On top of being overpriced, the article is right. $70k doesn't get you shit for technology compared to a sedan that's even $20k cheaper.

    That's the truth.
Xlt trim, qc, 4wd. 5.0,2.7 or 3.5eb can all be had for $37,xxx
Leaving you roughly $33k for a Stang.

Motortrend fail. Here's another link to the same story:

And what a stupid article, anyway.

Please point me where as I just built a Silver super crew with no leather, no sunroof, no nav or electronics package. Added the 5.0, 4x4, and a tow hitch.

So a rather boring ass truck IMO - $47,000 on Fords website building the truck. ($47,750 to be exact with $750 in available incentives)

    https://shop.ford.com/build/f150/?ve...95.AWD.XLT.%5D

So add in basic leather, sunroof, and nav/back up (basic lux options people want) and it is a $55k truck all day.

I am a broken record, but give me a regular cab short bed XL with the 5.0 and the 10 speed trans.

Leather is too hot in Houston unless it is on an aircooled seat, no desire for a sunroof on a truck. I would opt for a trailer package though.

And the other side of the coin is I wouldn't take a free Reg cab truck and will never buy any vehicle ever without leather.

Point is if someone is spending $70k on a truck, they want some kind of nice features. While the Platinum package might not be worth it, a close to comparable truck with upper end features is not going to be $30k either like some are thinking it is.

    I said Xlt, Dingus.
    Usually stickers about $49k.
Plenty of times, you can get 22-25% off sticker.
Would you like me to do the math for you?

And not everyone wants Leather, sunroof, and all that other shit.

no but the person buying the over priced platinum does.

Of course a base model will be more cost effective then a top line....that should shock no one.

If you build a 4x4, 5.0, with simple luxury items.....you're not having enough left over for any Mustang unless it is used and ragged out.

    You're entertaining hypotheticals.

The argument was made that OPPOSED to the top of the line, $70k truck, one could buy an xlt qc 4wd AND a Stang for the same price, and that is true.

    it is.

you are thinking that one that buys that truck that wasted their money as the article makes it think wants a base line truck and another car.

Give me the option between the two and you can keep the stang and enco truck. Gice me the single over priced hauler.

For myself, and a LOT of people, the $70k truck would do absolutely nothing better than the $40k one.

You're not the person the article is talking about.
