    ECU E40 Help

    Hello All

I have just aquired an LS2 complete with ECU E40. factory engine loom and throttle pedal. I am going to install it all in a 427 cobra and am hoping somebody can help me with the pinouts and what wires I need to get it running.
    Thanks for the help inadvance.

You'll have difficulty using an engine harness without the BCM & PIM from the original car. You'll also need to get the VATS turned off.
It may be far easier to contract a specialist company to re-work your stock GM harness, turn off the VATS and provide you with a tune.

    Examples below:

    http://www.hotrodlane.cc/PDFFILES/ls...nessSquire.pdf

    http://www.speartech.com/
    Click on LS-24X
"If your engine came with the original harness attached, and you want to save a few bucks, send it to Speartech for a stand-alone conversion. We'll add all the great features that are part of our new custom harnesses.
If the overall condition and appearance of the original harness is satisfactory to you, and the placement of the computer will work for your application, then reworking the original harness can get you up and going quickly and save you some money.
We will eliminate unnecessary wires from the harness and simplify the hook up end, adding the same features as our brand new harnesses, including a check engine light, a diagnostic connector, a fuel pump relay, as well as ignition and battery power up wires. When applicable, tach and gauge wires are also brought out for your convenience."

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention that the engine is out of a vauhall monaro vxr. I have looked at the pin out you gave me and a few of them appear to be different. Is there a specific one for the monaro.

There'll be a few minor variations within the E40 family, with yours having the extra ability to handle the 90mm ETB and twin wire knock sensors amoungst other things.
Post up a couple pics of the E40 you have, complete with Part No & Service No.

(The Pinouts I gave you were for a 2005/2006 Pontiac GTO which I would have thought to have the most in common with what is in front of you).

A bit of online searching found 12596733 YKWB listed as from 05 GTO M6.
I don't have any info specific to 2005 Vauxhall VXR

What are you noticing thats different between the pinouts posted and whats in front of you? Just wire colours??

Excellent, thanks for the concise info.
I've looked at everything I have for pinouts on E40's and have nothing here which matches whats in front of you.
One source showed different C1 & C3 pinouts for 2005 Corvette with M32 (4 speed auto) V MM6 (6 speed manual).......but still nothing close to what you have. No clues found there.
Same source showed similar pinouts on C3 on 2006 TBSS LS2 truck to what you have, though C1 was not similar to yours.

I'll try to chase up some Holden VZ tech info which may have exactly what we need.

Thanks for the help. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you turn something up. Meanwhile I'll keep digging myself.

I've traced all the plugs back to the pins and they all work out regardless of colour so I think I'm going to be OK.

I just have a couple of other questions

How do I wire the OBD plug ie which pins in the obd plug need what wires

How do I wire the yellow wire Pin42 pluc C1 reverse lockout

I struck out, the guy didn't have Holden VZ ECU pinout info.

    That's great news.

I only have GM tech info which doesn't cover such dastardly deeds.
The aftermarket Harness guys have figured out how to achieve these functions & I guess they wouldn't give their hard earnt info up easily.

Here's a thread with the only info I have on OBD2 for GTO:

All the information you seek is in the various information used by the V8 RX7 people.
Have a look at http://www.norotors.com and download BurtonCR's spreadsheet of the GTO wiring guide.
Your OBD pin outs are on there. It's CAN-HI from PCM C1 connector to OBD pin 6, and CAN-LOW from PCM C1 connector to OBD pin 14, plus ground on pins 4 + 5, and 12v constant on pin 16.

The reverse lockout is a ground connection, so you can just run that wire on the big white connector to ground to un-lock reverse, but the gates are very close together on this box, so it's best to keep the reverse lockout. It should still work anyway with the PCM control.

I recommend you read the spreadsheet I mentioned anyway.

    Stand alone 05 pinout needed

I am new to ls2 engines.

I have a 05 GTO LS2 24X T56 tranny. I am looking for a STAND ALONE pinout assignment diagram. Nothing tricky, just a simple diagram with pin number, circuit number and function for stand alone operation

    Thanks
    Jim
