    Stock 2018 GT goes 12.0 @ 117MPH

Looks like the new 2018 Mustang GT with the revised 5.0 is no joke.

LMR took their new shop car out and laid down a 12 flat @ 116.9X on the first pass. This was with the A10, stock tires and 3.55 rear end. The same automatic car put down 415rwhp and 397TQ on their Dyno. The only other dyno numbers are for American Muscles M6 car and it put down 437RWHP and 401 TQ

This is the first GT where I would be fine with just the GT, but I still don't like the styling refresh.....

So it's now competitive with a 6th gen in a straight line. Still get smoked in the handling department probably. Hopefully Ford has also tackled some of the terrible quality issues with the car as well.

big assumptions on handling....given that the cars have not been compared yet. To bad they didn't get some real track time in.

Either way it looks like the GT will knock off similar or better times than the GT350... So a GT500 or some other HIPO option has to drop soon.

The mustang platform is nowhere near as good of a chassis as the 6th gen. A 6th gen V6 1LE beat a GT in one of CD's lightning lap articles. That's embarrassing, especially since VIR is somewhat of a power track. At least Ford finally took care of the power disparity though

I understand your excitement though. It's been a rough few years for the mustang getting smoked by everything in every respect.

I really don't care what the old 2015-17 GT did....I don't own one...and the last 5.0 that interested me enough to buy was the B302. THe GT350 is neat but not enough to HP for $$$ for me...

This new GT would be on my radar...but I'm not crazy about the styling.

Will that 10 speed be pervading the camaros soon? I mean, beyond the LT1...

That 10 speed is legit. I think I'll opt for that in my next Camaro.

Interesting. Weren't the 2015-2017s down a few tenths and mph from the 2011-2014s due to weight?

Eh don't forget the first couple years of the battle was against the 3v 4.6, not really lighting things up with like 315hp.

5.0 only came out the year after Camaro returned from Hiatus. Ford sat on their ass for the SEVEN year hiatus and didn’t do shit to the GT.

Because the 6th gen is stupid good.

Although one thing you've missed is that more of us on ls2 now own chargers/challengers than mustangs or camaros

Can't get past the nose in pictures.

    Cost has ballooned.

I optioned out a premium track and came to 46-48k for what I want. Mine stickered for 41-42. Though that would include magnetic dampers, better tune, variable exhaust. So, most of that difference is content.

    Oh good, the sales argument.

Why did they bump the hp if they were selling pretty well?

Hopefully these impact the gt350 market and those prices start to come down. Still my favorite out of all the pony/muscle cars.

Uh well, you brought up the sales argument bub. "Lots of Mustang guys jumped ship in the last year."

I was just pointing out that despite your myopic, anecdotal "evidence" not many seem to have jumped ship.

Competition is what drives change, don't think anyone would argue otherwise.

I brought up the fact that people were switching mostly from Mustang to Camaro and not the other way around. It’s just one variable.

That says nothing about total sales. Which don’t matter to be when determine which car is better. The 5th gen Camaro guys used the sales as the reason why the Camaro is better, then it reversed in the 6th gen.

Some people don’t care about the up difference between Mustang and Camaro but many do. Not enough to always switch to the other side, but it did happen A LOT in the last couple years.

I think the new Gm/Ford a10 will be THE transmission to have, regardless of platform, for a long time.

You mean besides that pesky GT500 that offered Mustang performance buyers more than the Camaro would do until ZL1 and arguably until the 2nd iteration of the ZL1?

    Incorrect comparisons.

GM is bitch slapping Ford and Ford is always the responder. Go buy a Ford GT if you want to beat a Camaro. Maybe.

Just because you don't want to consider the total Mustang lineup doesn't mean the comparison is incorrect. Your statement of Ford sitting on its ass with the platform is the only thing "incorrect".

Oh Jesus Christ. This isn't ten years ago. Nuthugging isn't cool anymore; now it's just dumb.

Ford the responder? ZL1 was a direct responee to the gt500.

    Seriously, just stop.

The 5th gen was fairly meh other than the special models, and the zl1 was an embarrassment. The 6th gen is great though, although now it seems ford has at the least caught up, when it comes to straight line performance anyway.

4th gen was great. 3rd gen got it's shit pushed in from 85 to 92.

It's been a back and forth between mustang and Camaro since the beginning.

Yeah the 5th gen ZL1 was such an embarrassment, keeping up with the GT500 around most road courses despite a 80hp deficit.

The 5th gen zl1 could barely keep up with the boss in a straight line. That's an embarrassment, period, doesn't matter how good the rest of the car may be.

5th gen ZL1 needed mods to be respectable in the real world; not big mods, but mods. 6th gen however looks to be completely legitimate.

a TPI 305 made the same or more power than the same year 302 and could be had in cheap trim levels.

it's not GM's fault people picked bullshit options just to say they had a v8. also 5.0 mustang are second only to turbo buicks in rose colored glassery about how fast they actually were.

The issue with the TPI motors is that they didn't take to mods well. The intake was a huge bottleneck, and there weren't easy aftermarket replacements. What are there, tpi 1-2 intakes on the market? Meanwhile can you even count how many Ford 5.0 intakes are on the market?

the 5.0 intake was crap too, even with the big factory cam they still peaked at like 4800rpm.

that's because chevy moved on and every mod motor was trash for NA builds until 2011 so people stuck with the 5.0.

Having owned a few of both,
A bone stock Fox feels quicker than a stock ls1.

Imo, 5spd Fox is one of the brawniest feeling vehicles ever, given its 225hp rating.

I can agree with that, if we are talking about lower speeds.

Stock ls1 fbodies feel much slower than they are, I think due to the long gearing and and flat power curve. Stock foxes feel much faster than they are, I think due to the low transmission gearing and the peakier torque curve.

Once up to highway speed though, stock foxes start feeling slow and stock ls1 fbodies start feeling fast.

Would there be any reason for Ford to take the lead and produce a Camaro SS stomper?

Like they had with the gt500, for the entire run of the 5th gen? Sure.

Why is it taking them this long to release the s550 Gt500?

Hey genius, I’m talking about the GT. Where is the GT500? Oh yea reverse-engineering ZL1 to hopefully beat it years later.

Where is the Mustang GT? Behind V6 Camaro
Where is the Mustang 350? Behind Camaro SS
Where is the Mustang 350R? Far behind Camaro ZL1 NON ZL1.

Ford boy your brand might catch up (for a year)

Stock V6 6th gens can run a 12 flat? Interesting. Too much trolling...

Glad you didn't try to call me a Ford boy. I do have a '16 Roush Stage 3. Although, it's parked next to my supercharged '17 C7 GS. Imagine a world where you're not a BS fanboy and just enjoy fast cars...

Lol. Ford boy. I currently DD a Dodge.

What are you talking about with reverse engineering the ZL1? That doesn't even make sense.

Mustang GT behind v6 Camaro? Sure doesn't seem like it given the quarter mile times in this thread. Looks like, at the worst, the GT is now on par with the SS.

I do agree the 1LE SS makes the gt350 look bad. Ford needs to up the game there.

Imagine a world where people are allowed to prefer one brand over the other, and GFY for thinking you're somehow better because you like many brands.

Goes both ways bud, and you're being just as bad as he is. Neither of you is right, or wrong.

Don't think I'm making up shit, selectively ignoring facts or trolling

That last part happens too much in this subforum.

You're right, Bossman is trolling with a good bit of bullshit. That being said, this recent narrative by some members on LS2 that if you prefer one vehicle brand over the other you're somehow wrong is fucking bullshit. You're not superior or more enlightened because you like several different brands.
