    I explained to a fellow car nut that inline engines are much better balanced than V engines and he didn't believe me.

    The fact that the in lines have fewer parts is also a benefit.

    What you say is 100% true. Especially in a dohc setup.

    Problem is they are generally heavier and around twice as long as a V6... which means even more weight.

    V's trade length for width. Width is easy to get in most engine bays. Length invariably means a bigger car.

    not at all. my I6 is quiet and i can hardly tell it's running. when i hit the gas it sounds decent. the turbo muffles the sound quite a bit and the stock exhaust doesn't let it scream. i actually hear more grunt at WOT from the engine bay.

    europeans love tinny as fuck exhaust systems i've noticed and most aftermarket systems come from there. that's especially true for the old NA engines.

    The 4L in my Wrangler doesn't sound as good as a V8.....but it aint horrible, either.
