New Corvette paint facility goes live this week.

GM spent $500 million on a new state of the art paint facility at the Bowling Green plant. Supposed to be a drastic reduction in orange peel and paint flaws. I saw a yt vid some random guy did of a white car and he said it looked like 80% reduction in orange peel. That's pretty damn good if it holds true.

They start production on the 2019 Corvettes at the end of January. The last of the 2018 models will have the new paint system.

It's about time GM did this.

It's still on my bucket list. The new paint facility is 450k sq ft. Half of the size of the entire current assembly plant.

I spoke with someone working on the upgrades. He said he was working a new line wiring up the robots, the frame rails for testing was much longer in the back.
He also said a new turbo motor was at the plant for a mid engine vette with a new DI setup. I guess will see if he was full of shit or not.

Heh, so the $500M paint facility really was for a $500M paint facility. All the rumor mills said it was some super secret manufacturing line for the mid engined C8.

Part of it could have been, I guess. But they really did build a new paint facility that is supposed to be bad ass. They're also painting Corvettes there starting next week. They're rolling out basic colors first and then the metallic and tint coats later in the month.

I wouldn't even say the old paint was shitty. It just had orange peel, like every other mass produced vehicle.

Agreed. I never noticed GM's paint being any better or worse than Ford or VW, Toyota, etc.
