    Ported heads

Will the benefits of using ported heads be captured without a custom tune or will your existing ECU recognize and reap gains?

Need a tune, and ideally a properly sized cam(s).

The tune will run super lean and wont see much gains.

No you bonehead! You want a hogged out square port head on a street motor while exhaling through log manifolds. That's how you maximize low end torque production.

Ported square port heads + stock cam + stock exhaust manifolds + stock tune will give you the best chances at winning the Cruise Control Nationals

If it's good enough for the CCN then it's good enough for me

IIRC for the CCNs, you can only tune the tune once. You must then pre-qualify for the event at your local golden corral.

With ported heads you'll have to overtorque the spark plugs to see any gains.

You also need grounded spark plugs wires. You don't want to short out a spark plug or you are going to have a bad time.

Back when i had the 4.6L mustang, ported heads were a 30HP or so bolt on without a tune. What the fuck are you guys talking about?

I'm looking at ported heads with a 25% improvement in the exhaust flow. Integrated engineering. 2.0T.

Don't forget the cross drilled and slotted pistons for more strength and weight savings.

You werent getting 30hp on a 4.6 with ported heads. The ECU would never be able to add enough fuel to keep up with the head flow.

He's talking Canadian horsepower. With the current exchange rate, that comes in somewhere around 4 hp American.

He messed up his thumb through repetitive violent cruise control button engagement. It's very sad, but if you look at his trophy case full of CCN 1st place trophies, he will say it's worth it.

If you run E3 plugs they can give 3st to 4nd times the benefits of stock torqued plugs.

You're right. The vendor told me the heads won't make a difference unless there's a tune.

Minimal gain without a tune and cam/cams to compliment.

My setup with the stock intake put 330rwhp down. Comp 262ah(smallest on the market) and ported heads. My tune sucked but still trapped 115 in the quarter.

4.10 gears alone get you tenths in the 1/4 mile. I used 3.73. Apparently fresh oil shaves off half a second.

fyi, 2v 4.6 heads have a negative valve angle. they direct flow back at the cylinder wall.

lots of used 4.6s have a small worn spot on the upper cylinder where the oil is constantly being washed off. good job ford!

k&n filters are good for .0029e3

tornado should shave off a full second. properly tork of course

nitrogen in tires are good for .342 in the eighth mile

    I should know

I had a fully balanced racing engine in my 1996 blazer (LT, no poverty here)

with pop up pistons and a dirty bumpstick

What I normally do is take the square of the maximum checksum in the chip, then advance the cam that amount. They call that "tuning the tune" down at the speedshop

you seem to forgot who you are talking to

as the president of the north mexico chapter of the cruise control nationals, helium is banned.

helium is basically nitrous and a turbo at the same time

As usual with aftermarket parts, it didn'tfit up so well. I held them in place with duct tape. The color of the tape matches perfectly with the stock system.

Funny? CCN rules state Greddy parts are allowed.

FYI If you read section 57.3 it states spark plugs do not need to be torqued to spec and the crushable washer should be discarded to save weight.

I got some 6.17 Richmonds in my Civic and I want to sign up for the Cruise Control Nationals. Would this gearset be the correct choice if I want to max out my MPGs on cruise so I can take home the trophy? How will my Don Pablo wheelie bars affect performance? What about my Matco Tools Top Fuel style rear wing? Basically my goal is to get her up to 133 as efficiently as possible and hopefully bring home the W.

IIRC the matco wing will put you into the unlimited class of the CCNs. Some of the highest speeds ever attained by man have occurred in that class, it isn't for bozos like you!
