Urgent Help Needed 69 Camaro rebuild thread

What started out as a check engine light has morphed into a major project. When I bought the car, it had an LS2 with a MEFI harness. WTF is a MEFI? That's what I said too. I couldn't use any tuning software of get the engine light as it's basically obsolete so I was going to put a factory computer and harness in. One think led to another, and I kept finding things I didn't like and now I'm in a full restoration.

This is what it looked like when I started.

Well shit. Didn't know that was there.

    Too many factory holes.

Mock up for the a/c ports

    Smooth firewall

    Stripped the underside

    Stripped, primered and painted

    Gotta clean that up

    New Trick Flows

Relocated the wiper motor and had to fabric some linkage for the arms

Made some relocation brackets for the coils

Had to make a custom bracket for the fuel pressure regulator to mount on the back for the head

The throttle cable didn't line up with the throttle body. If you look closely you can see the spacer I had made to bring the cabple out 1/2".

    Lines up good now.

Had to modify the cross member for the exhaust to run through.

    New steering wheel and gauges

At this point I started putting it back together. I finally said screw it, I only want to do this once so I'm getting body work, some custom stuff and paint.

    Ordered these today.

Mini tubs, new 4 link and 9" on the way. Also these 6 pistons w/ 14" rotors.

Got the drip rails trimmed off.

And carbon pieces came in. Gonna paint it a gunmetal color and leave the carbon exposed for a stripe.

I'll update as we work on it.

I feel ya. It's been months since I've driven the Chevelle. I really want to do something different with it. The desire to LS swap it has been great lately. I saw this car the other day and it totally lit a fire under my ass. Trying to see if I can swing something like this. Might take 10 years but I want to do it.

Those Weld rims have become incredibly popular on all sorts of vehicles. They look great on some vehicles, like that Chevelle and not so great on others. Sweet car.

Shouldn't. I'm not the first one to mount them down on the block. I'll make a heat shield if it ends up being a problem.

It's a vintage air system with a March pulley setup. What are you building?

beeler... does anyone make a relocation bracket for the coils? As many builds that I've seen w/ them relocated, seems like someone would make one. Reason I ask is b/c if that looks as clean and well placed as it is, you may could sell those. Hell, I'd be interested in one for my dad's truck. From what I've seen w/ the trucks, people are mounting the coils on the firewall, way down low. Currently, his are sitting in the stock position and I'm not a fan.

Oh ok. The 1st gens have a hump too for the crossmember. You can see it in the picture where I put the new floor pan in.

I've seen but nothing that I thought looked good. Best I can remember the only ones I've seen are like what you mentioned. That's why I ended up making my own. And I didn't want coil wires going all over either. I thought about trying to sell them but it depends a lot on the header design. They wouldn't work with my old headers.

Beeler, are you doing all of that metal and fab work yourself??? Looking at the undercarriage all stripped down, the firewall filled, the floor pan replaced. It reminds me that I need to learn to weld.

OP spends a fortune thanks to the check engine light... takes it on a test drive only for the check engine light to turn right back on.

I'm curious to see how bad my mileage will be in the T/A once it's rolling around w/ some 4.10's in the back.

Disclaimer: Couldn't care less what the mileage is. Just curious to see how much it changes.

I doubt it will be awful. I still get 20mpg mixed driving in my C5 with 4.10s and a H/C setup. I'm not even sure if that part really changed. I think it changed my straight highway driving mileage slightly, it used to get around 28 for long distance highway driving and now it's more like 26.

With the 5.7L, I got 28mpg highway routinely (cam/bolt ons) and 30 a few times. 19mpg in the city.
    With the 6.2L, I get 24mpg highway & 13mph in the city.

Midwest chassis huh, cool. I'd basically settled on them too when I was planning my build.
