    2018 Hyundai Sonata Sport

I've been considering selling my G8 and GMC 2500 and buying a new body 4 door GMC 1500. Something 2014 and up.

I casually mentioned this to a guy I know. He said that he would buy the G8 if I was serious. I was and he did. There was no negotiation at all. I offered him what I thought was a fair price and he bought it.

Truck prices are stupid. Apparently, a 2014+ GMC crew cab can't be had for less than $30K.

So I decided to buy a refrigerator: 2018 Sonata Sport in silver.

I called the Hyundai dealership on Friday and asked the salesman if he wanted to sell a Sonata Sport in 30 minutes on a Friday afternoon. I have no trade in and I don't need financing. I don't care what color it is as long as it's not red. I don't need a $40 gift card incentive to come test drive it, I don't even need a test drive.

He told me that they have a silver one and a white one, but that they couldn't sell either for the price that I wanted. He said he'd call me back.

He did and after several calls and text messages I decided to go see him in person.

He told me how good I would look behind the wheel. I said, "Let's be honest. A Hyundai is no one's dream car. This car will serve a purpose, like a refrigerator. Nobody gets excited about a fridge.

He bragged about the safety - I used to have a motorcycle. Sold it when helmet laws came around.

He said I could have 3 free oil changes - no thanks, I change my own oil

He said that the ones I compared it to in Arlington didn't have a spare tire or window tint. - Keep the tire and the tint

After we agreed on a price, he tried to add $660 to it for some kind of tire warranty. I told him that it has Kumho tires on it that are ~$60 a piece. How many tires does he think I'm gonna go through to make it worth it?

I eventually got it within $200 of what I hoped to spend.

The "sales manager" told me that he hoped he never sees me again.

I get the car tomorrow. They're going to wash it, fill up with fuel and remove the pin striping.

Tomorrow night I'm going to remove the majority of the badges.

I leased one as a DD in 2014. It was a decent car for the 3 years I had it, not a single issue.

    Thanks.
    I think.

I don't know man. I like the idea of having something that I don't have to work on. I like the mpg, and I like the price most of all. I've paid more for used cars. I'll keep the truck for pulling the boat and taking trash to the dump. This will get me to work and back. I probably won't blow my brains out driving it. It's got a few nice features. I like the push button ignition and sunroof. It doesn't seem to have remote start. You have to do it by cell phone. That's weird. In theory, I could start it from anywhere I have cell reception.
It's 7 years newer than our newest car, and it's not a GM product. I'm in strange waters.

On a side note: My "American Truck" is from Mexico, My "American Muscle" car was from Canada, and Hyundai from Ala-fucking-bama.

I'd change my own oil too but it's cheaper to have Walmart do it.

Like I texted you the other day, my brother is on his 4th Hyundai and he hasn't had an issue with any of them. He lives in TX but his job is out of Florida so he drives back and forth 2x a month unless they are sending him elsewhere.

Anyways he buys one and runs it for a 100,000 miles or so and trades it in on another. He just bought his wife a new Hyundai as well but he got her the flagship large sedan (don't remember the model name), but I was very surprised at how nice it is when I saw it.

have had absolute zero complaints about the '15 sport turbo I bought the STB-ex. Hell I'd love to have it for a DD. Peppy enough to get out of it's own way, great mpg and actually not a bad looking 'refrigerator' at all. Not sure I'm liking the new model as much though.

We took a hybrid one for a test drive when we were getting rid of the Passat. We really liked the exterior/interior and price the best out of the market (Chevy Malibu, Lexus ES, Toyota Avalon, Accord). However the Sonata Hybrid had NO power

Did ya get the cooled seats and monster glass moonroof?

You're going to de-badge a Sonata? Are you trying to keep people from knowing that you're driving a Sonata?

Iíve had my Ď15 for two years (almost to the day) and put 37K on it...no issues, great MPG, and pretty comfortable on long trips.

Is it the best car? No. For the price though, I couldnít pass it up- got it for 22. Iíll probably drive it until 100K or so and then get rid of it but itís definitely a car Iíd recommend.

Hyundai recently split the Genesis line out into its own brand to better compete with Lexus, Acura, etc.

Genesis is a brand now, not the model. Think they have the G60, G70 and soon to be G80. To my knowledge the only sedans hyundai makes under that name is the Elentra and the Sonata.

I didn't mention price because no good can come from that. People will either say I paid too much, or not believe me because I paid too little. Yeah, it was around $22k.

I debadge everything. Took the ML55 AMG off the Mercedes years ago. Everything is off the Tahoe, took the G8GT emblems off, and the Z28 from the Camaro.
When I was in high school I had a BMW 320i that started all of this. I was closing the trunk one day and the badge came off in my hand. Been doing it ever since. Just like the way it looks.

It is identical to this one so I guess his is a couple of model years old now.

You still have that spare LS and trans you were going or swap into the Volvo? I am thinking you could make it fit in the Hyundai.

I'm still shopping for a donor candidate.

    I want to find a $1500 Miata that's missing a motor.

I would have taken the $660 tire warranty.

I have processed thousands in claims for those, well more than the customer paid for the package.

I ended up getting it for free. I'm not sure how.

The car is growing on me. I LOVE the Android Auto.

Find a $1500 Miata that has the motor and sell it. Or throw it in the backyard. $1500 miatas shouldn’t be hard to find

You should put it in a 1996 regular cab stepside 1/2 ton Chevy, a red one to be exact.

That Camry is as exciting as a new toaster oven, but I will admit that the steering wheel is "right there".
