2020 Ford Bronco - Confirmed at Detroit Auto Show

At the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, Ford officially confirmed the Bronco will return in 2020 as a midsize off-road 4x4.

    http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...l-photos-info/

At the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford announced the thing everybody has been anticipating: The Ford Bronco returns as a midsize 4x4 for 2020.

No real details were given for the upcoming Bronco. The vehicle's design, specifications, and dimensions were never revealed, and all that was shown on stage was a Bronco graphic—no vehicle was shown. Ford's Joe Hinrichs did reveal that the upcoming 2020 Bronco would be built in the U.S., at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant.

Hinrichs described the upcoming Bronco as "a no-compromise midsize 4x4 utility for the thrill-seekers who want freedom and off-road functionality, with the space and versatility of an SUV. It's capable of conquering everything from your daily commute to gravel roads and boulders," Hinrichs said, with images of rocky, technical off-road trails flashing behind him.

Notably, the 2019 Ford Ranger was also announced today, also slated to be built at the Michigan Assembly Plant. Does this mean that the new Bronco will be based on the midsize Ranger? Hinrichs described the new Bronco as a midsize, off-road-capable 4x4, hinting that it could be a Ranger-based SUV. We will have to wait to see for sure.

The Ranger and Bronco have long been rumored to return to Ford's lineup. A United Auto Workers representative first revealed that Ford's union contract included Bronco and Ranger plans back in October of 2016. But this is the first time Ford has officially and fully confirmed that these vehicles will return, announcing where the vehicles would be produced and when they would debut. Today, Ford confirmed that the Bronco and Ranger will be two of five new utility vehicles set to arrive by 2020.
No looks at it yet, but "Midsize Offroad 4x4" is hitting all the right notes. for awesomeness.

They need to just make a two door SUV version of the raptor and throw the bronco badge on it.

Speaking of Ford... Did Ford sell Nissan the rights to the 2014ish-style F150? I've seen several new Titans around here and I always first think they're a Ford. Maybe I'm just seeing it weird, but it seems to favor the previous style F150's.

I took it to mean not a full size SUV. Full size = Expedition. Mid size = Explorer / Flex. Small = Escape / Edge. Mid size would be the appropriate size for a new Bronco I think.

It will be based on the next Ranger, which will be the size of the Colorado. There will be nothing "midsize" about it.

I am thinking something similar to a 4runner.

What I was getting at is the popularity of Jeeps exploded in 78 after that group took a bunch of Jeep Scramblers across the Pan American highway in South America. To bad the bronco was a full size then.

I don't know if it wasn't off road able it still had solid axles and you could take the top off after 78.

If it's based on the Everest which it looks like it's going to be, it will be something like this:

Which is all good and fine if you're looking for that. Personally I'd rather have a Wrangler. When off road, I don't want terrain management making decisions for me. I'll decide when I want diff locks or not, and I believe I can descend a hill, slower and more in control on my own. While this "Bronco" looks like a decent SUV, I don't think it will take too many Wrangler sales. I guess we'll have to see what happens.

It's probably going to be a little more off road worthy Grand Cherokee.....

From all I've read about it, most will consider it a failure as it won't be a Bronco in any way besides name.

The Expedition does not use the F150 frame. It's lower, and the rear axle shafts go through the frame rails.
