My neighbor had one exactly like that back in the late 80's. I always liked the look.

Manual could only be had with a 305 so probably wouldn't add value.

No. 305 was the base engine in the Z28. 5.7 was only available in Z28 though.

To be fair there were different 305s and the G92 option with the 230 hp tpi 305 and 5 speed is considered by some to be the quickest 3rd gen ignoring the TTA. But most were TPI auto cars or worse TBI 305s or the dreaded LG4 POS.

That's a time capsule of a 25th! Hope the new owner takes care of it.

Freaking nice car . I'd like to have a nice 3rd gen again. I just can decide between a last year IROC or a 92 Z28. I love the spoiler on the 92 as well as the dash.

When they first came out, the look was game-changing. No grille, sleek- first one I saw, early 80's, from a distance, I thought it was some import exotic. When I got closer and realized it was a Chevy, I was amazed. Too bad that, during the early smog years, they really didn't have the motor to back up the styling. Even the 'vettes back then were what, 170 HP? People were moaning about the end of performance cars. Amazing what computer engine controls can to for a car, while even keeping the emissions in check.

Nice ride, I hope the new owner helps preserve that slice of history.

THey were built to be driven and enjoyed- maybe he is reliving his youth, or finally driving the car he always wanted. I mean, I get the idea of being a collector, buying a car and putting it in bubble wrap. Just not for me, I'm going to run some fuel through it, feel the wind in whatever hair I have left.

For the money spent I'd wrap it up. For half that you can find a very clean driver. That's all I'm saying.

But to each his own. His car to do with as he pleases

There are two ways to look at it though. 1. Like you said this car is collectible so the lower the miles and wear/tear the greater the value.
    2. If a 3rd gen was a dream car and you always wanted a new one to drive and enjoy then you drive it.

I had an 86 TPI WS6 T/A with a high-flow cat, Flowmaster cat-back exhaust and cam and intake. I drove the shit out of it. Thing handled like a dream too.

Sold it in 2005 to get my 2002 WS6 Ram Air (which I still have).

Found the VIN number recently; I want to try to find out what happened to my old ride.

    not necessarily.

FWIW i thought you could only get a HARDTOP 350 Z28 in 91/92 and that all the T-top versions were 305.

The 305\5spd Tpi cars were quick for their time.

Abt 2 tenths slower than your average 5spd Fox.

Buddy had a 91' that went 14.4 with just a Flowmaster.
    Not bad for the day.

The 350 cars typically ran a few mph more in the 1/4,and would pull on the 5spd cars from a 60 stomp.
If the 305 driver was good with the stick, they were generally within a tenth of each other in the 1/4.

you guys must really just love looking at third gens then. I can see no other reason to sit on a car for a decade, never driving it and not looking at it as an investment.

seriously, though. I couldn't care less how you spend your money. I was just making a comment.

Yes, Hubby has a love for the thirdgen cars. He's had several of them. Our priorities have just changed over the years. He has no desire to continue the upkeep on all the cars we have.

    yup

Yes, Hubby has a love for the thirdgen cars. He's had several of them. Our priorities have just changed over the years. He has no desire to continue the upkeep on all the cars we have.
completely understand that; I have points where I don't want to keep up with just two.

    Not bad for the day.

The 350 cars typically ran a few mph more in the 1/4,and would pull on the 5spd cars from a 60 stomp.
If the 305 driver was good with the stick, they were generally within a tenth of each other in the 1/4.
If I remember they played around with the cam size though on the 305/5 speed, some years were a bit faster than others.
