I can't really see it in the pictures, but paint varying in thickness is fairly common, especially at the edges of a panel. Whether it's bad enough to justify repainting is a question for the body shop manager. Again , go look at other cars on the lot to see if your car is worse. It probably isn't though, unless the painting robots were drunk or something.

That's probably just how the bumpers are molded. If the paint was that thick it would have run.

I'll look at mine this evening. I didn't have any major defects as far as the other issues.

I don't have any major paint defects. I have notIced some superficial scratches, but who knows when that happened.

I am less than thrilled with panel fit. Read bumper has a gap with both quarter panels that I can see the tabs. I have the rear-glass doesn't fit issue....

Looking at mine, I think that's just the molding. I don't think the paint is thicker.

Damn this thread for making me obsess over it....

    Bumper to quarter gap

Driver to passenger side trunk gap is off

Passenger side hood has a "curl" that disrupts that hard edge over the headlight

See, that's why I don't want to hassle the dealer or Ford to the point of replacing the car (which is unnecessary at this point anyway), because I'm happy with how my panels fit, I'm just not happy with the paint.

In your spare time you can read 60 pages of people complaining about their panel alignment dating all the way back to December 2014 ( http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13272 ). This has been a known issue since the get go and Ford has done nothing to rectify it. Most dealerships are unwilling to make repairs, and when customers begin to question quality control processes they are being told by Ford representatives and engineers that their gaps do not exceed the tolerable limits. Some have successfully had their mustangs replaced after a lengthy battle with Ford, but most are "just dealing with it".

After looking at yours, I have nothing to complain about with the irregular gaps in my 2016.

Dr. Lexus, I could live with most of yours except that headlight one.

I think that first picture is the worst.

And here I am, annoyed by a slight misalignment on the rear bumper of my T/A, where the bumper meets the taillight (bumper was replaced years back after a girl tapped the back of the car). And that's on a 14 year old Fbody

Hard to believe those body panel gaps are from the factory, that they passed Q.C.- if I saw that on a car I was thinking about buying, I would be suspecting that it was repaired collision damage. Are there no craftsmen left in the factories any more?

Its not fair to expect perfection with the paint and panel gaps on a relatively low cost mass produced vehicle but those are pretty bad and shouldn't of gotten pass QC. Maybe that explains the cost gap between the camaro and stang.

We had to reschedule our appointment with the Body Shop Manager last week due to my husband coming down with a stomach bug. We are supposed to meet with him this afternoon. I'm hoping to keep the paint repairs at a minimum. Refinishing the wheels should be easy, IMO.

I also noticed quite a large difference in the way the trunk lines up on each side. It's nice and tight on the passenger side while I can stick my pinky finger through the gap on the driver's side, so I'm going to see if they'd be able to make a slight adjustment while they had it for repairs.

I don't think there's really much of a difference in price until you get to the GT350/R vs. a ZL1, no?

some of the extreme price gaps is in the way you can get a mustang optioned compared to a camaro. With the camaro its pretty much all or nothing as far as options go. But even when the options are the same the mustang is cheaper.

Given the build quality issues of the mustang, and the vast performance gap, sounds like the price difference is more than justified.

Haven't owned a camaro obviously, but I have had that same thought.

Vastly prefer the appearance of a mustang, but from 10 ft away.

If I could do it over again. Probably get charger scat pack and add leather. Price would be about same as my current car, 4 doors which is more practical, and could have dumped the fusion for a decent discount off the total.

The scat pack is a different kind of fun. They are fun though

Wow didn't realize the new stang was such a big risk to get a "good" one...

Update: We met with the Service and Body Shop Manager yesterday. I've opted not to have any paint repair done to the car for now. My choice. Pictures were taken and documentation was stored on a repair order, so there's at least a paper trail should either area in question get worse over time (I have 3/36 paint warranty and can always opt for repair at a later time). I did get a little irritated when the Body Shop Manager tried to insinuate that the chips in the paint on the driver's side wheel well were done by a rock (before the car had more than 150 miles ). If that is the case then I have some shit luck I suppose, but I disagree. And they will be refinishing both front wheels in the coming weeks, so that's a plus.

We did have them look at the trunk gap while we were there. It was a trim piece that was crooked (they were calling it an appliqué), not the entire deck lid. The piece is pretty stationary and you can't do much to it unless you rip it off and replace it, but they were able to snug it up a little so it looks less noticeable now.

Overall I'm still happy with the car. It's unfortunate, and disappointing, that it came from the factory with some minor issues but it is what it is. I'm not going to let those few imperfections overshadow the fact that I'm finally driving the car that I've drooled over for the past 3 years.

Body panel fitment issues aside: I guess I would feel the same if I had a "nice car," but for my 2015 Silverado, I look at paint bubbles and rock chips as an excuse to start saving for full body Line-X. Flame suit on for comments
