New toy v. Square body chevy

Picked up an 85 GMC short wide the other night.

Drove out to Paris TX(3 hours from me) to look at a rolling bondo mobile and left in a pretty sour mood. Did some more looking on CL while my buddy drove back and saw this one under a vuage listing as "1985 gmc" sent him a text and ended up meeting him in a Fiesta parking lot in the hood in Dallas at almost midnight

Overall it's in pretty good shape, no rust to be found, paint is a little rough in some spots, but fine for a driver. I'll drive it as is for now but it will get a 5.3/4L80E soon enough.

Prices on these trucks are retarded lately but I think I did pretty good, I can fix a few small issues it had and make money off it tomorrow if needed.

    That truck is sweet!

I love those square bodies. My first truck was an '82 GMC so I'm kinda biased.

Just kidding, I love those short bed pre 1988 trucks.

My 12 year old and I are going to put a miniature version together. I found an mid 80s model S10 about a block from the house I grew up in.

This is basically our goal for the truck.

I plan to update the drivetrain, suspension, and brakes. The body looks to be rust free so it will get a maaco respray and we'll make the interior look new. New as in like it came from the factory, not popping for anything custom and fancy.

Cool truck, OP. I like that style a lot. It's nostalgic... my granddad had one around that era.

Some dumbass not far from here sold his truck in a BAD area of town, at night... and was never seen again. They found his skeletal remains about a month ago. I was just thinking "What kind of moron sells his truck in a bad part of town, an hour+ away from his home, and doesn't have a plan on getting back home? ".

Although to be honest, I think it would take most mechanics a day or a weekend to get the truck on the road and legal. I figure that it would take most diy mechanics a week, most guys that just like wrenching a couple of weeks ...

That's why I am allowing myself 4 years.

This is my square body. Looks good at this distance. Get closer you start seeing the problems. I'd like to swap in a 5.3 but I'd probably be better off saving that money, selling this one and getting a later model. I get asked all the time if it's for sale.

A little. One of the cab corners is getting worse. And there is a small spot on the bed. Nothing terrible.

Sweet! LS powered squares that are nice do stupid money

I picked up a 87 GMC long bed over the weekend as a parts truck for the two I'm building. The TBI motor and trans is going in my 85 K10 step side and I'll use the tailgate on my 87 that's at the body shop right now getting the body work finished and sprayed in black.

I like seeing that there is some love for these body styles. I traded a rust bucket for a 90 K5 Blazer 4-speed and something in the ignition gave out (think it is just a switch) and I debated if it was even worth anything but at the same time I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. There is just something kind of bad-ass about it. Of course the previous owners ran the loudest exhaust they could on it, so I couldn't ever sneak in to anyplace with it! I guess it is time to figure out how to get it running again!

Forgot how much fun old cars can be...

The AC works now Now I just need to get the windows tinted

Had to replace the shitty electric fuel pump they installed under the hood and relocate it next to the tank

The transmission yoke is cracked so I need to replace or weld it, it leaks when parked on an incline

I think I want to take the crappy electric fan off and go back to a belt driven clutch fan. Also need to replace one of the ebrake cables.

Once that is done will probably start working on the interior, new seat upholstery, new carpet, door panels ect...

In a few months I will be looking to sell the turbo setup off of my K5 to go with a T6 setup, you want me to message you when I take it off. It'll fit nicely on that truck. That is a very sweet ride, congrats.

Man I would love to turbo my GMC.

A white long hed work truck would be an awesome sleeper.

We have a 85 in trying to decide what color to paint. Original color was silver ... Might go a two tone though I'm not a fan of that.

Silver might not look bad with the right wheels and chrome.

    I dig it.

I'm hunting for a stepside C10 lately. Might have to consider something like yours as well.

Looks great. There's a red, lowered '86 GMC rcsb with a 5.7 in town that I drool over every day. Could use paint but I'd probably leave it be if I had it. The guy is asking $6500.

Price isn't unreasonable searches if it's in good shape, the price is going up on square bodies
