    Ls2 + 69 chevelle =

A few months back the chevelle was not starting. Tracked the problem down to the wiring harness, so I purchase a new painless set up and install it. After we had the car running for a few minutes I notice smoke and shut it off. I see the puddle of oil my car was nice enough to leave me and notice the nice frothy, mocha color and realize that anti freeze has been getting into the engine. At that point I decided to replace it all. So begins the swap.

Bought a Ls2 and a 4l65e I plan on purchasing the ecu and wiring harness from Bigstuff3. Also have a new fuel tank on the way from rock valley. Should be fun I just can't wait to get it in and have a car with some power.

    Here is the car.

    Ls2

    Transmission

I did manage to get the Ls2 in place I will post more pics tomorrow.

I thought about that but was unable to find to many wrecked vetts and gtos. That and I did not want to worry about something being broken.

Awesome man. I've been toying with the idea of putting an LS2 in mine, but can't part with the big block.

Looks like the A/C doghouse is still there, along with some lines. Will you be running A/C with the LS2, and if so, can you maybe give a parts break down?

Yes the AC will be in there Tucson summers suck without it. I bought a kit that mounts all the accessories. If the ups man shows up with some of the little stuff that I need I should have it all in and will post some pics. I thought about going with the big block, but I had already purchased the suspension for a sb. This is my daily driver so I needed something that would give me somewhat decent gas mileage.

Cool deal. I'll definately be checking out the pics. Houston summers aren't a lot of fun without A/C either. Would be fun to daily drive the Chevelle though.

Not going as smoothly as I was hoping but here are a few progress pics.

Here are the accessories test fitted.

Had to take the oil pan off to put a new one on and took this pic.

Don't know how well you can see but the motor mount hole is not lining up.

No I bought a modified oil pan I might have to grind it a bit but I don't know yet all depends on the motor mounts.

About the motor mount situation I am going to call the company that I bought the oil pan from and see what they have to say. So far they have been really helpful.

Sweet. I'll be looking for updates. Since the Z28 was stolen, I'm going to hold off on a real "hotrod" till I get back in a house. I'm seriously thinking a 66 Chevelle with a Big Block, but a big LSX might really what I want, I just don't want to hack up the frame on one.

    This is what I want

Yeah that is exactly what I did not want to do. The car will be driven daily so I am hoping this is a good mix of power and gas mileage. If it is anything better than 11 miles a gallon I will be happy. Not to mention I am probably going to double the power

Finally got the ls2 in its new home.

Also got the tail shaft to drive the mechanical spedo.

Pretty much just have to tighten everything up, then start with everything else. Oh and a big thanks to turnkeyenginesupply.com, that is where most of the parts that have worked came from. Cool guys to very easy to work with.

I love seeing the grime and dirt on your frame rails. That tells me you really are going to drive this beast instead of letting it sit in a garage under a dust cover.

I didn't know you could get an 802 cuin LSX motor?!?!?!

The LSX is a great engine, probably the best for a street/daily driver kind of car like this Chevellabu is going to be. Still, the BBC is king of the power makers in Chevy land. Those porcupine heads are hard to beat.

511ci out of an LSx, and it'll make plenty of power for anything but a tube-frame drag-only car. Since it's a daily driver, I'd also imagine reliability and gas mileage is a factor.

The LSX is iron, and only goes to a 4.25 bore.

This is my first car to, I love it to much to get rid of it. It was purchased for me shortly after I got out of eighth grade.

I will post up some pics Friday, Got the motor mounted and the cossmember in place. Went to fit the LT having a few clearance issues with it and might have to redo some of the break lines, not looking forward to that. Order the computer hopefully it will be in soon.

I still have my '68 Malibu. She's ugly as hell right now, waiting for my son to get a little older to be our father/son project, and then his first car.

No mods for the motor mounts just had to get the plates to mount to the block. The motor mount plates moved the engine back and down so I just had to hammer a few places just to give and little clearance. It probable could have worked with out any mods but there would be rubbing. Oh and I got the oil pan, LT, and motor mount plates from http://www.turnkeyenginesupply.com. Really nice guys.

I'm thinking we'll build the '67 Chevelle 283 that was in it when I bought it, leaving it stock, and then as he is ready we can mod it. Perhaps build a roots blown big block and leave it on an engine stand for once he gets older.

The project looks awesome. With the mods, what kind of HP do you figure that LS2 is going to make?

Ideally I would like to see 400 to the wheels. I think it is possible with the mods, but we will see.

I thought for sure I read they were aluminum. Weird. GM stated one could get 511ci max out of it, so I guess that means lots of stroke?

I'd imagine a loaded LSx block with aluminum still weighs less than a BBC...don't those things come in at over 1000lbs with accessories and heads?

Dude... awesome buildup. Very custom. Specs on the car? I'm just a Chevelle nerd, so I want to know more about it. Was it an 'SS'? What's with the stripe down the side? Just curious. Good luck with the build.

You've already done the investment. It'll make lots of power and be more dd friendly than a big rat in there. Now if you want to run 10's easy, that's a different story.
