Some of you may remember when I brought her home on a test drive a month ago (original thread)

Well, we had her for a week to do some paint work and she has been back at the dealer for the past 3 weeks getting some minor work done, but she's finally home

I'm still giving my painter shit about that, but it doesn't matter since I'll be welding on them anyways and most likely have them Rhino lined afterwards

Yeah, I remember the thread where you had the cruiser that was similar to what you have planned for this one. That thing was sweet.

Will'ya settle for a shot in front of the house?

Actually, I got rid of the factory rack last night and got started on building the new one using guttermounts

Even though it's just tacked in place right now, the crossbars are solid enough to dance on

I'll get started on the flooring, rear cage and front lightbar tomorrow

Well, I got a smokin deal on mine, so it doesn't count, but a clean 95-97 FZJ80 w/factory lockers under 120k miles typically go for around $10-12k

By 4, do you mean 4 sets or 4 chimes

For Authentic Nathan and Leslie Horns, I have a collector that always keeps them in stock with low pricing (PM me for details)

Anyhoo, didn't get to spend much time at the shop today cause the family wanted me at the house so they could ride the elephant, but I did manage to mount the tanks and do a bit of the plumbing

Passed the bubble test, but I left it @ 150psi overnight just to be sure

OK, here are some finished pix of the wiring

Installed an old Rear Heater switch from my 91 FJ80 to control the horn toggle....

When switched on "LO", the stock horns sound off when the horn button is pushed....

When switched on "HI", the big guns on the roof sound off when the horn button is pushed....

And to top it off, the train horns are also wired to the alarm (can you say "PANIC BUTTON"? lol)

Four Toyota Foglight switches in the console control the lights...

    1) Bumper Lights

    2) Front Rack Lights

    3) Side Rack Lights

    4) Rear Rack Lights

Shot of the OBA and horns while standing on the rack....

Added some screens to the chimes cause I'll be driving to West Palm Beach today and we're in the middle of lovebug season

Installed a Hazard light switch from my 91 FJ80 to control the compressor relay....

Didn't care for the red color, but it's backlit and looks pretty cool at night...

The compressor is still controlled by a pressure switch in the mailbox, so it will automagically shut off at 150psi....

And here are a few exterior shots

Welding galvanized steel sucks royally. I used to be the foreman at a company that manufactured barricades. We also repaired them. I would always put a fan right in front of my work station to suck the smoke out. That shit used to make me nauseated.

Your truck looks bad ass, of course though I thought the van was pimp.

    Two questions:

1.) What type of plastic nuts and bolts did you use to run the wire through the roof, and did you just drill on through? I am about to mount a lightbar to my truck for VFD.

2.) Do you know of a smaller air horn setup that sounds about like the fire trucks? I need to set up an air compressor, tank, and all that jazz, but I was wondering if you knew of any horns that were quite a bit less noisy than yours. I would love to run train horns, however I don't think I will remain in the department long, responding to a call, blowing a train horn through intersections.

    Thanx man

    1) I used Heyco Liquid-Tite cordgrips

    http://www.heyco.com/pages/products/section_1/1-11.html

Had to drill three 7/8" holes, but the hardest part was actually flexing three 2Ga. sized cables between the headliner (took a bit of finessing)

They were $0.50 a pop at my local electronics surplus store (SkyCraft)

    2) Firetrucks and the like use Grover Stutter Tones...

    http://www.airhorns.com/products.asp...gory=emergency

Not nearly as loud as train horns, but they have a high pitch that will definitely get your attention

    LOL

That dude was my idol when I was a kid

It's because of him that I always carry a roll of duct tape and a Swiss army knife in each of my cars

Anyhoo, today I mounted my storage box and added a set of limbrisers

I had originally planned to add the limbriser mounts to the bullbar, but I won't have time to build it since I'll be leaving for home this week....

Still wanted the risers, so I just used the fender mounting bolts for now

Well, I've already decided on a set of tires (Cooper Discoverer STT's)

The lift is still up in the air though

I wanna to go with a 3" lift, but it seems a 6" lift is actually easier because the kit is more complete with the proper caster correcting arms that don't require adjustments

The mild lifts under 6" don't come with arms and I have to play around with bushings and caster kits to get the setup right (sumthin I'd rather not deal with)

Thing is I just think 6" will be a bit too high for my intended use

    6" would be perfect.

You will lift it 3" and then a month later you go "why the hell did I only lift it 3 inches?? I should have went 6..."

    Been there, done that.

Nah, 6" would be too much for my intended use

Just an example, this rig right here....

    It's only running a 2.5" lift

If I went with 6", I'd have to move to much larger rubber to make things look right, then I'd have to re-gear just to make it work right

I'd say 4" would be the absolute highest I would go since I'd be running with a full load + camping gear...

Besides, a mild lift on one of these things will take you places H2's have only dreamed of

Yunno, the more I drive this thing, the more I realize I don't really need a lift

I never got stuck in my 91 and I have yet to stick this one either

I figure if I just get some REAL rubber and swap the boards for a set of sliders, then I should be good to go

Here's a short video of what a stock UNlocked 80 can do on the trail

    LINK

Since mine's fully locked, I wouldn't have nearly as much trouble

Why is the second hazard switch upside down?
