I think the dura tracs are gonna be my next tire for my F350. I need something with more off road traction. My Falkens just as soon as I get into anything remotely slick or soft, like wet grass

    Get that bitch weighed.

    Installed

Unfortunately, the balancing machine didn't want to cooperate

I wanted dynamic with adhesive weights like I usually get, but on the interior setting, it was asking upwards of 12oz in weight

Tried rotating the tire on the rim and it actually got worse

Standard exterior dynamic setting asked for only 3oz, so we tried adding the adhesive weights to the inside using this setting and it just kept asking for more

Since my buddy at Tires Plus was hooking me up, I didn't want to waste anymore of his tech's time, so after 30 minutes of monkeying around, I just told him to use hammer weights

Looks like ass, but it's super smooth and ultra quiet compared to the BFG's

Feels like I'm back on the original LTX's again

What sucks is that I had originally planned on getting them road force balanced, but the local DT wanted a $h!t ton of money for it and actually talked me out of it, saying that it was hit or miss and that they usually advise against it (I just think they don't know how to use it)

We'll see how long they last, but I'm thinking Dyna Beads next time around

I've been following this thread since post 1. I hate SUV's in general, but that LC is one fine vehicle! I love the spirit of the mods, and the quality of the execution.

So this morning I must have run over some road kill cause I found a bone sticking out of my right rear tire

What really sucks is that I had just completed my 5th short mile tire rotation and was all set to start pushing the intervals to 3k miles, but now I gotta start all over again

Being that close to the edge of the tread means a tire shop wont patch it, but if you have a way to do it yourself, there are some industrial strength patches/tire repair stuff that should be fine on that tire.

I want to see the bone that penetrated the tire...cause I was wanting those for my next set of tires, but I dont want something thats not gonna be tough.

It's still fixable and I'll be installing a combination plug/patch, but I'm gunna set it aside as a spare for my off-road trailer

It was actually about 6 inches long and very sharp, but most of it came out in pieces with a cutting pliers

I'd say it was a fluke, but it probably would've made it through just about any tire

Installed a large oil separator a few weeks ago

Using the glass jar for the video footage and initial testing, but will eventually switch over to the plastic jar

I wanted a clear reservoir so I could easily see the level and I wanted it extra large and deep so I wouldn't have to drain it often and that oil wouldn't get sucked up when I'm wheeling steep inclines

So far, there's barely any oil in it (maybe 1/4" from the bottom), but at least it's not flowing through my intake

All engines have some blow by (even brand new)

Here's what was filtered after 24 days (hard to see, but it's ~1/16" from the base)

Keep in mind this is an engine with 324,xxx miles still running 10w-30 conventional oil (most folks run 15w-40 as suggested for non-US spec Cruisers)

That's FAR less than the amount my LS1 T/A pissed out in 1 week with less than a 1/3rd of the mileage

Yeah I am with Champ, Snake always has the best build threads. Hands down. If I had the know how and the tools to do it I would love to work on my Frontier to make it a bad ass rig.

and just out of force of habit, I parked far and away from any other cars (must've been at least 20 spaces around me).

Now as many of you already know, Murphy's law dictates that no matter where you park, some a-hole will always find the need to park right next to you

After picking up a DVD and a bag of Cheetos, I walk out to find that someone did in fact park right next to me, but it was a pleasant surprise as I rarely ever see other built Land Cruisers

It was a beast and I just had to snap a couple of quick pix

Then I thought I'd grab some of the video footage from the surveillance cameras and sure enough, the owner of the other Cruiser was snapping pix as well

Didn't wait around for him, but I figure I'd make this video and share

    Sorry about the crappy quality

I actually grabbed the footage off of the head unit display using my cell phone

    OK, don't laugh.....

So after 16 years and 326,xxx miles, my steering wheel has started showing its age

Can't afford a new wheel ($700+), nor can I afford the downtime to have it re-wrapped

So I snagged this little press on kit from FleaBay for $17 bucks and snapped it on

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/310683825078...84.m1497.l2649

Snapped it on in seconds and it was such a tight fit that I didn't need to use the supplied double stick tape.

I know it's kinda ricerish and doesn't really match my redwood burl dash pieces, but it did fit a lot better than I thought it wood

go chop down a tree with an axe and carve the wheel out of a solid chunk. Then stain it. should turn out perfect.

Ran into a little issue today....

So I'm at the office watching the Zimmerman trial and right when they go to a short recess, I decide to take a spin out to BK and grab some grub

Pulled up to the speaker, but they're taking their sweet ass time, so I throw it in park and wait.

About a minute later, she gets on, I place my order and she says to pull around.

I go to pull it out of park, but it's stuck

This had never happened before and of all times to happen, of course it had to be at a drive-thru

I scramble through my glove box for a screwdriver to pop the cap for the emergency gear selector unlock button and managed to get her in drive

After grabbing my food, I noticed I didn't have the usual unlocking "click" when stepping on the brake, so I figure it's just a blown fuse or a loose brake switch

Also noticed I didn't have any turn signals, which was odd cause I knew it had a separate circuit

Got back to the shop and sure as shit, both the brake and turn signal fuses were blown

Put new fuses in and everything seems to be working fine, but now I'm wondering why two separate circuits blew their fuses at the same time

Just guessing at this point since I have yet to tear anything apart, but I'd be willing to bet my "Hoppy" trailer wiring harness might be shorting out

It's the only point where I can see where both turn signal and brake circuits come together in one crappy little junction box

And I have been doing a bit of deep swimming lately with all the flooding going on

I'll check it out when I get her on the lift next week for her routine tire rotation.....

Cleaned out my blower motor today

For the past week or so, I would sometimes have to give the blower case a good slap to get started

Then last night, I noticed it was blowing at about half speed when on the high setting and earlier today, she slowed down to a crawl

I figure after 16 years and 327,xxx miles, it was probably due for a cleaning

Pulled it and found a bit of dust, but nothing like the bird's nest I found when I pulled my T/A's blower motor

Washed the fan, blew all the dust out of the motor housing, checked the brushes and oiled the bearings before putting it back in.

Now she's working better than ever

Thing is, the brushes did look a bit on the worn side, so I'll have to look into getting new ones if they're available

    A little update....

Decided to ditch the 70 series hat for an OEM 80 series bird feeder

Unfortunately, the OEM topper has a smaller inlet than the FleaBay 70 series topper

In fact, it almost matches the snorkel's inlet diamter

So, a little bit of hacking was in order

Started off with a paper cup to catch any shavings....

Then put my cutting wheel to work and cut 4 slots.....

Started off with short slots, but ended up cutting longer ones to reduce any chance of cracking the inlet.

And photos of the test fit....

I'll be spraying the topper with bed liner to match and sealing off the 4 slots with a piece of glue lined heat shrink

OK, so this is what I should have done before hacking away at my dorkel

Took both toppers apart and as expected, they're practically identical with exception of a smaller tube size, two metal lower radome mounts and an upper metal dust trap sends the dust out the bird feeder hole.

Removed the metal bracket mounts on the lower section of OEM topper and riveted them onto the knock-off lower section.

After that, everything snapped together like legos

OK, you guys will get a kick out of this one lol

Chopped an inner brace out of a piece of exhaust tubing

Had to level the top of the snorkel tube because it had a bit of an angle, so I taped up a line and fired up my sawzall

As I was marking the tape, the keys in my pocket got bunched up and somehow the button on the keyfob got pressed, triggering the train horns right in my ear

Scared the f@rgin $h!t out of me and I dropped the stupid sharpie down the snorkel tube

    F@@@@@@CK!!!!

Took a breather for a few minutes to let my heart rate go down and thought about what I should do

Didn't like the idea of having to pull the whole snorkel off to shake out a magic marker

And the thought of leaving it in there to rattle away on every bump while my engine inhaled the smell of a marker like a druggie looking for a fix didn't sit well with me either

So, I rigged up a little contraption to my shop vac

    After a few minutes, SUCCESS!!

Dropped in the inner brace, slid the newly modded topper in place and tightened her up

I've crossed flood waters well above the hoodline, but at speed, it actually looked like it was splashing right up into the birdfeeder

Actually, it costs much less to fly, however, I love driving and prefer to drive my Cruiser wherever I am

Besides, I can't smuggle much on planes nowadays

After debadging my rig for bed liner, my hatch was left with two uneven holes from the sombrero

I figured I'd get a badge of some sort to cover them up, but didn't want anything that would necessarily identify her as a Land Cruiser (throws off the meter maids)

So I went with an old FJ40 emblem

Replaced the original trash can solenoids on my rear winch with a new Albright noid pack

Here's a short test video on a jumper box before bolting it back under my rig.
