that thing had heated seats back in '97?! Damn thats loaded man

I take it it's a '97 from the description on your redwood berl tag.

What all options do you have on that LC? I think I want one now

Yes, she's a 97, but she doesn't have heated seats

Heated seats weren't available on the US Spec cruisers, but were optional for the cruisers in the rest of the world along with MANY other cool stuff that the US just wouldn't allow

I got the seat heater switches from a fellow cruiserhead in Japan and I use it for front and rear interior winch control

My rig came with all the standard equipment (a/c, pw, ps, pb, pl, moonroof, leather, cd/tape, locking center diff, rear heat, towing package, etc.)

Only optional stuff I got was wood trim and front and rear locking diffs

Only 7% of the US spec cruisers have lockers, but they're pretty much standard equipment everywhere else.

Here's a list of stuff we didn't get in the US, but is either standard or optional overseas:

    Turbo Diesel Engine
    Manual Transmission
    Seat Heaters
    Rear A/C
Snorkel (that's right, there's an OEM snorkel for this thing)
Hand Throttle (they probably figured some American would use it as a redneck cruise control)
    OEM winch
    OEM swing out tire carrier
OEM Ice Maker built into center console
JDM auxiliary cooling fan (I installed one on my rig)
AmberLamps barn doors (one option I can do without)
dual battery systems (I added a secondary batt)

The good news is that the US rigs are practically prewired for most of the optional stuff

So the other day I was driving along, just minding my own business when this chick in a Camry yapping on her cell phone driving in the next lane slammed on her brakes when a light turned yellow and skidded out of control into my lane right in front of me

I managed to avoid plowing into her and figured I'd post up the footage from my Cruiser cam

She could've easily made it through the intersection before the red, but I think she panicked because there was a cop waiting in the cross traffic

Had a blowout on the way back to Orlando from Tallhassee acouple nights ago

Tore up the sides quite a bit

The tires have well over 120k miles on them, but plenty of tread left

Replacing all 5 with new KM2's and putting the KM1's on my trailer

Gunna need a new flare assembly, fuel tube cover and mudflap

The rear bumper endcap got torn up too, but I plan on replacing them with Hefty wings anyways

I had a bunch of leftover relays and timers leftover from one of my city bus fleet installs, so I decided to add a starter interrupt and a timed video kill on my DVR system

I basically have to hit the switch under the armrest on the door to enable a relay that allows the starter to crank, but it also initiates a timer circuit that shuts down power to the surveillance system for about 10 seconds (or whatever I set it to) to eliminate any damage due to a voltage spike (cameras and DVR's don't like low voltage)

Got some pix of my wings before they get shipped out

They basically bolt onto the frame rails and will eventually look like this

I'll be adding a beer cooler/mini dirt bike carrier to the passenger side instead of the jerry can holder (I'd rather keep the gas cans on the roof rack)

I love this truck and would have to get at least $30k (about 4 times book value) for me to be happy

    EDIT:

    Make that $40k

Rick... Looks awesome. Have you thought of doing any engine mods at all? I noticed the stock exhaust. I figured with that extra weight you hve in there you might want a little more pep in your step. Just a thought.

No engine mods as she's my DD, but I'll probably end up doing an HG and valve job as PM when she hits 300k, then I might look into a TRD SC

Anyhoo, I added some hold downs earlier today

Didn't want to use bungee cords, but still wanted sumthin I could remove easily, so I drilled a pair of thumb bolts, crimped some leftover limb riser cables and added wing nuts

    Rick,

That's one sweet rig man. I'd love to have the time fab up all the things you have done so far. Also, I read the first page of the post but what is the purpose of the wires running from the roof rack to the front fenders?

Yep, they're just limb riser cables and they've saved my windshield countless times

Unfortunately, I didn't plan ahead for the wiring on the plate light

My goal is always hidden wiring, but in this case I ended up using tin shielded 2-wire conduit cable and just routed it out of the way of things, then soldered it directly to my Hoppy harness mounted behind the X-member

instead of the TRD S/C, are there any more modern engines (Toyota or otherwise) that you could swap in easily?

LSx swap? (doubt there's room but it'd be fun )

Might be cheaper than a S/C conversion if you got a nice used one and possibly both more power and more mpg

    Most likely a rear winch

The front winch already gets used quite a bit recovering other vehicles, but on the mud trails, I find myself getting into situations where only a rear winch would help me

Now the the spare is out of the way, I have tons of room to hide it behind the x-member

LSx swaps are actually rather common, but I don't see myself swapping out a perfectly good engine

I'd probably go that route if I blew this one, but the chances of that are very slim

Well, it'll hit 300k sooner or later. Wouldn't be that pricey and probably twice the power and possbly more mpg. Would it be too much for the rest of the drivetrain?

You threw a chevy engine in a ford, you're not above an LS2 in a Toyota

She has 245,xxx now and still runs like new, so the big 3OhOh doesn't worry me

Wouldn't be that pricey and probably twice the power and possbly more mpg. Would it be too much for the rest of the drivetrain?
    Unfortunately, swaps aren't exactly cheap

AFAIK, the only adapters available are for the non-US spec manual trannies and they're $1400 alone

That means I'd have to spring for a 4L60E and buy a $1200 adaptor to work with my T-Case, then re-gear both ends

Add for new cooling system, adapters for HVAC, exhaust and wiring harness and it gets expensive very quickly

The majority of the folks that do the LSx swaps usually start with wrecks or hardcore trail rigs and don't do much street driving afterwards

    Like this badboy

Since mine is my daily driver that makes 1200 mile trips every few weeks, the last thing I want to do is turn it into a project

A TRD S/C won't make as much power as a swap, but it's a direct bolt on that's much cheaper and reliable for DD usage

That being said, if I had money to burn, I'd build for a big turbo or just throw this sucker in there

You threw a chevy engine in a ford, you're not above an LS2 in a Toyota

I forget, how many miles you ahve and put monthly on this? is this the one still going up down to NYC? all that stuff must make it very low highway MPG i assume.

    As of today, 251,8xx

Yes, still back and forth and yes, mpg sucks

    Anyhoo, a little BlackStone update

I took an oil sample @ 203K+ miles in January of 2010, but kept it on the shelf until I could get another sample @ 250k+ and send it in all at once.

The sample at 203k had 7,100 miles on the interval according to the odometer
(7,526 miles on GPS due to oversized tires)

The sample at 250k had 10,600 miles on the interval according to the odometer
(11,236 miles on GPS due to oversized tires)

I also took an ATF sample at 212k miles when I did my first knuckle service and replaced the original filter.

The ATF oil sample had 21,000 miles on the interval according to the odometer
(22,260 miles on GPS due to oversized tires)

Everything seems to be working top notch and the only gripe I have is an oil leak that sprouted around 195,000 miles

I have yet to tend to it as it never drips on my driveway, however, the side of the block usually gets coated between intervals

I asked if I should step up to either 10w-40 or 15w-40 based on the mileage and outcome of the samples (since that seems to be what most of the folks with these rigs use), but I don't think I'll be changing anytime soon

Thats awesome on the oil sampling

I need to do one on my F250. It has about 10k miles on the oil and is ready to be changed. Mileage is at 295,xxx, which is low because of my oversized tires. Im pretty sure my truck has over 300k miles.

the report comes back as good as yours.
