Yeah, that was the idea lol

Anyhoo, my roof looked like dogsh!t since I did a few touchups on the rack while it was up there

The original moisture trap roof rack holes had the usual rust and since I had an extra bottle of liner, I just shot it after laying down a few coats of epoxy sealer

My new plate frame also came in today

Gunna piss off the Jeep folks lol

OK, so I went to pickup a battery for my boat and ended up getting a pair of blue tops on the cheap

I figured I'd use the extra for a dual battery conversion on the Cruiser

Not that I need it (the single blue top has been more than good enough), but a secondary start battery is always nice to have.

On the 93-97 FZJ80's, the battery tray is on the driver's side, so I had to pickup a 91-92 tray (which sits on the passenger side) and relocate the washer bottle behind the air cleaner assembly usin a Slee relocation kit.

    Gunna start wiring tomorrow.

Mine would either get filled with mud or smashed by rocks if I mounted them under there

Anyhoo, here's a little update on the rack:

The 1" square tubing isn't galvanized like the round tubes, so bug juice and rock chips did a number one mounted up front....

I ended up welding a piece of 1 x 1/8" steel stock in front of it (the gray paint is weld-thru primer) and then added a pair of limbriser posts to the top..

After scuffing, I sprayed it with an epoxy sealer/primer

Didn't bother cleaning up the welds cause it would all be covered in bedliner anyways...

The stamped steel clamps on the mounts were a bit rusty, so I took a wire wheel to them, then dipped them in plasticote

The thumb clamps were badly corroded, so I hit them with the wirewheel, then a high speed buffer.

    More to come tomorrow...

    Thumbs up

    OK, another update....

To replace the mailbox, I picked up a similar sized tool box on the cheap.

Drilled it with a bunch of holes...

Added a woodbase and intake tunnel.

Mounted the compressor, wired everything up and benchtested it

Looks really nice man, how is the airflow working? i see a fan gut where is it getting air from?

edit: i think i see now, pulls air in from the back hole and the fan is pushing it downward thru the rectangular hole in the front. if you cut a hole in the roof you could have a backseat heater lol

Yeah, there are two blower fans.

One under the fuse box that sucks in cold air from the bottom through the tunnel and blows across the head, and another on the right that sucks out the hot air and blows out the bottom of the box

    New DVR finally arrived today

Stand alone Compact Flash based system, 30fps, A/V duplex playback, adjustable motion and alarm detection as well as autolooping memory

And best of all, it's dirt cheap and small enough to fit in the glove box

I have yet to install it, but after a few hours of benchtesting in the office, it looks very promising

I've been putting it off for quite a while, but I need to get started on dual rear swingouts and a rear winch

Anyhoo, I was bedlining the interior of my boat yesterday and had a bit left over, so I decided to shoot the front of the mirrors

Unfortunately, I knocked both of the glass off my table and one of them cracked

So I ended up yanking one off a golf cart until the replacement comes in tomorrow

How much video could you write to a 4GB Flash card? I guess that depends on the resolution of the camera... I can only imagine if for some reason you sold this truck as is how much fun the new owner would have finding out what all the factory looking buttons actually do and what all of the non-factory pieces work with.

It depends on the settings, but I only use 30fps (no less) and get about 40 minutes @ 720p and about 70 minutes @ 360p (can't really tell the difference in quality between 720 and 360)

On the lowest setting, you get about 8500 minutes, but I don't want to deal with dropped frames

The best bit is that it automagically loops and records over the oldest footage, so I have plenty of time to rewind in case of an event or accident

So far, I have two on the bumpers (F/R), but I also plan on installing a pair in the headliner, a wireless cam for R/C excursions (drive by monitor) and possibly an undercarriage rock cam

The main purpose is to be used as a drive cam and basically have proof in case of an accident

Like this one I caught in Long Island City where a cop arrived at an accident scene and without even looking, threw his cruiser into reverse and nailed another car

I can also set it to record by motion to find out what's been $h!tting on my lawn at night

Now that I'll be able to run it 24/7, I can park it in front of my shop or house for surveillance

What amp alternator do you have? Curious as to whether it can keep up with the dual batteries if both of them are drained. Great job on the install as usual!

The OEM alt is only rated @ 80amps, but like everything else on this rig, it's pretty much overbuilt and has handled all my accessories with ease, even at idle

With 1200 watts of auxiliary lighting, strobe lights, air compressor, mobile theater, A/C and auxiliary fans all going at once, she doesn't skip a beat

Folks have been installing 150amp alts and not seeing any difference over the OEM

As for the batts, the secondary batt is mainly for emergency starting and winching, so it's highly unlikely that both will ever get drained, but if that were to happen by some crazy fluke, I wouldn't switch the secondary circuit until the primary battery is fully charged

Although these batts are identical, they're not matched by age, so I don't charge them continually

The secondary batt only gets topped up for a few minutes each day and gets a mild cycling at every oil change (about every 3 weeks)

They tried to locate a used shifter console, but the one they found was the wrong color, didn't have the optional wood trim and was only $5 bucks less than a new one from the dealer, so I have a new one on order

The wood trim kit has been discontinued, but it's still available from the company that supplied them for Toyota (Superior Dash)

It's only available as a complete kit, so I'm getting all new wood

As for the bruise on the lower dash panel, they're sending out a dash repair guy to attempt a fix

If it's good enough, I'll probably live with it cause I really don't want to tear down my entire dash for a replacement

The one that went through the door skin hit the crossbar on the inside of the door, so it didn't go through the inner panel

And there was just too much beef at the rear of the door, so the other one just made a big dent

The window did little to stop the first shot though

you could have repaired the old console pretty easy if its only cosmetic. Buy some busted up scrap plastic of similar type and grated it like cheese and soap it in MEK. It would make a plastic paste and you can patch the holes and paint with SEM paint..

    Not worth the effort

A new shifter console from Mr.T is only $75 bucks and since the seat rubs up against it, I'd rather not use ay paint

Your truck is awesome. I wish I could drop of my Pilot at your work and let you go to town.

A little update on the console...

I wanted to change the positions of some of the switches and A/V inputs, so I drilled a few trial options into the old console and used it as a template for the new one

I moved the A/V and Guitar toward the front to clear the seat when it slides forward.....sumthin I didn't take into account when I did it the first time

I also moved the camera/DVR power switch to the driver's side and moved the camera rotary knob to the side of the Power/2nd switch for easy each

Still waiting on the dash repair guy to fix the lower dash panel and Superior Dash to send me to send me a sample ring for the new wood trim kit

The rear door strip has loose clips, so I taped it until I can get new ones from the dealer

This was lodged in the back of my door and fell out when I opened it

Found tiny fragments inside the door panel, but didn't find anything under the console

OK, Superior sent me a wood chip sample ring

I'm glad they did cause they look completely different than the pix on thier website

I've narrowed it down to these 3

Here's a shot with an original faded piece

Still needs a split tailgate and a snorkel like a proper 'cruiser.

    It has a split tailgate

Do you mean the amberlamps styled barn doors

If so, I'm not really a fan

As for the snorkel, I really want the OEM unit

Unfortunately, it's only available for the RSD rigs that have the power antenna on the Left side

The LSD rigs have the antenna on the right side, so I either have to ditch the antenna (not gunna happen) or settle for a Safari unit like this (it's built around the stock antenna)

An FJ80 with a 4bt Cummins would be a sweet expedition vehicle

Rick, go for the blue carbon fiber instead of the wood

Yeah I meant the barn doors.

On your one where do they mount the spare?
