Same thing I thought. He might not get stuck but he is tearing the hell out of the underside.

The only thing rubbing is his Class 3 Hitch which he uses as a skidplate

Most guys just use the factory tow loops to scrape on, but when you install a big hitch you have to remove the loops and the hitch hangs lower

Lockers lock the differentials so that they act like spools at the flip of a switch

The LC's have 3 diffs (Front, Center and Rear)

Here are a couple of good videos on GM's G80 locker showing how it works and when you'd need it

    Little update:

I needed a light duty hitch that was adjustable, didn't hang too low and most important, CHEAP!!

All of the premade hitches didn't fit my criteria, so I figured I'd put the pintle mount holes on the bumper to good use

Thing is, the standard pintle ball mount goes for $75 and up and isn't adjustable for trailer height

So I picked up an adjustable ball mount from Harbor Freight on the cheap and hacked the shit out of it

Then I made a template and drilled a baseplate:

Welded up the remaining adjustment slide between the bolts and I was good to go

Doesn't hang down at all and barely sticks out when not in use

Everything for under $45 bucks and I've already received like 40+ emails from Cruiser folks wanting me to make them one

    Time for a patent

I made it a while back (should be a thread on it around here somewhere)...

Basically started off looking like this:

looks like you could buy some 6-12' sections of square, C, angle, and plate steel from a local supply place and crank those out

    $5-6 per plate
    $4-5 per each tube square
    $3 per C channel section
    $3 per hook
    pins ($3 for both?)
    =
    $20

    then cutting, drilling, welding, deburring

    do it

I've had over 60 emails from cruiser heads so far requesting that I make them (even a couple from down under)

I just don't have the time...

I've been rethinking the design a bit though

Like maybe welding up a C-channel to the main plate and using a drilled square tube with the ball mount attached to it

It should give more adjustment without having to flip the ball mount upside down

Some pix of the trailer after a little bit of work

I originally wanted to use solid beams, but my chop saw sucks ass and wouldn't cut them at a flat angle

I ended up sectioning the beams and welding them up, but it's still pretty damn solid

Actually, I did a little sidework on the golfcart while I had it in the shop

The factory rear step was falling apart and I had people breaking their asses trying to hop on, so I welded up a new one out of leftover steel stock as well as a hitch mount to yank the trailer around

    Hehe

    That's Cody's rig

He did a good job on that trailer (looked like dogshit when he first got it lol)

Unfortunately, he's been having some problems with the big lift

Caster plates ended up giving him a big wobble

And the huge meats killed his bottom end, so he's been looking for 5.29's (gears aren't exactly cheap for these things)

    Also, his rig isn't locked

When the time comes, I'll most likely go with the 4" expedition lift and 35's so I can keep my stock gearing

Added a manual CDL switch today

The Center Diff Locker (CDL) is normally locked automagically when shifted in to Low Range, but this switch allows me to manually lock or unlock it at any time

The US spec Cruisers don't have this switch cause it disables the ABS when used, but the harness is prewired with a jumper, so the install was a breeze

Did a little PM work today

Replaced the starter contacts, plunger and the PHH (Pesky Heater Hose)

The folks on the Cruiser forums recommend replacing them every 100k miles...

For the PHH, I used a Samco Sport silicone hose for a permanent fix (not exactly a job I'd want to do again)

What pisses me off is that the original contacts looked like they would go another 100k miles easily and the original PHH still looked brand new

Did a coolant flush while I was at it and the old stuff looked just as fresh as the new stuff I was pouring in

    Almost feel kinda robbed lol

    Next up will be tires

I've narrowed it down to 4 choices:

    BFG A/T:

    BFG M/T:

    Cooper Discoverer STT:

    Toyo Open Country M/T:

All terrain TA if you drive at all on the street. The others will kill MPG and the noise will be horrible.

I was actually leaning towards the BFG M/T's

Folks on the mud forums swear by them and say the noise is just slightly higher than the A/T's

Some even getting 100k+ miles on a set (spare rotation)

My only gripe is the price

I'll probably buy just 4 and get the spare in time for the first rotation

Anyhoo, here's another little test video

+1, I was going to get them on my truck, but it was going to take a week for them to get in at my old shop. So I got a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers instead, which are alright for under $200 a piece.

One of my co-workers bought those Terra Grapplers because the guy att he tire shop talked him out of the BFG's that he usually runs. He got about 20000 miles out of them. He usually gets 45000 out of the BFG's. Said that they were the worst tires he had ever purchased.

BTW Rick.....Where do you find all of the time to do all of these special little projects? Sheeeesh......Oh, and very !!

Pulling my hair out trying to decide

I have a set of the Open Country MTs and I love em. They do great in the mud and handle great on the road. Good ride quality and they dont make much noise. Dont get me wrong --- its a mud tire so its gonna have some noise but not nearly like most tires. Also they dont make that BFG anymore you have to go with the KM2 that looks like the krawler.

    You got a PM

When did they stop making them

It's still listed on their site and everywhere I've checked with has them in stock or can still get them

I don't like the look of the KM2's at all

    Rick

I dont like the KM2s either. I bought my tires about 3 weeks ago and was told then that only what stock people had was the end of them. I tried to buy the BFGs and they could only get the KM2s in the size I was looking for because nobody had the others in stock and couldnt get em anymore

This is the Toyo 295/70/17 mounted on my truck

You can kind of see how it looks. I know some people gettin 40k out of em without doing anything to em. No rotate or anything

    Hmm

I thought they only made one M/T KM in 17" (255/75/17)

I'm going for 305/70/16 and there seems to be plenty in stock wherever I look

It was a bit slow at the shop today, so I decided to move my DVD player a little higher to give the kids a better view

Here's where I had it mounted previously on the ashtray:

And here's what I ghetto rigged today making use of the useless cupholder slot (believe it or not, the slide out cupholder was NOT available on the US models)

Thumbs up A little more bling...

Mom got these for my B-day

Matches the interior (sortof), has inputs for video games and doesn't block my rear view like the larger units that mount in the middle

And this is what the Mrs. got me

    Should be arriving tomorrow

    OK, the HU arrived yesterday

    It's a Sony XAVW1

    Here are some install pix:

I started by wiring up a Metra Toyo harness (solder/heatshrink)

Then I sized it up next to the factory HU

    Attached the factory mounting brackets

Once I had her all plugged up and bolted in, the front panel wouldn't fit because of the wood trim

Didn't look right without it, so I trimmed the bottom portion off and it was good to go

I must say, the sound is incredible!!

Even with the stock speakers, it's night and day difference from the factory HU

Since it's 5.1, I plan on adding a hidden center channel behind the slot above the HU as well as reverse, forward and underbody rock cameras (gunna put put all those Aux inputs to good use lol)

Added a power switch for the rear visors and mounted it in the moonroof switch panel

And here's a shot of the navigation system
