well i had the stock 180 or whatever it is in the car for a while and i changed it to a 160. well the car runs really cool, as long as im driving. usually around 180 or lower. but as soon as i stop and sit in traffic or something, it shoots up to 210+, the longer i sit there the higher it climbs. then when i start moving itll gradually go back down until i come to a stop again.
now i know this cant be good for the block and all, heating up then cooling back down over and over. so what can i do to prevent this. it gets really fuggin out here in the summer and i put the 160 in at the beginning of winter, so i dont know how hot it will get this summer.
if i got a fan switch would that help me out:think: any other options? i just flushed the radiatorand changed the fluid (and put the green shit in by mistake:mad: )i thought that would help it out, but it didnt:dunno:
:help:

fan switches are ok, not sure if your 2 or 3 fuse relayed but I tried them and actually prefer my present setup. I had my PCM tuned and the fans come on at 165-170, I never get over 175 on the hottest days. I do have a Griffin dual 1" core radiator in my car which makes a huge difference, but the fanswitch mod I done only worked ok, it for some reason (wiring I'm sure) wouldn't turn one fan on high while the other was on high and it ran 210 at lights during the summer. The tuning was the key and the radiator prior that was the biggest plus. These little tiny radiators suck bigtime, they are 7/8" single core, plastic tanked POS by yours truly GM. Hope this helps you a little, PDM tunes go from 200 on up around Houston and my radiator was 160 from Summit which I done first then tuning after I rebuilt my engine, etc.

With stock radiator, 160* stat, Redline Water Wetter, and fan tuning, my car will run at no higher than 170* no matter if I'm moving or not. I would try the fan switch as it will start moving air way sooner than the stock tuning.....Good Luck...:)

I ordered a manual fan switch kit from speed specialties. 35 dollars. If you put in a lower degree thermostat, you really need to be able to turn the fans on sooner, In my opinion..... which really doesn't amount to much.

Fan switch will set you straight on the temp. As for hurting the block going from 180 to 210, don't sweat it. I've had mine as high as 235 at the track with a quick cool down between rounds, no worries. Hell I've had an old small block of mine as high as 280 on the gauge (not on purpose) still no issues. SBC = durable & forgiving.
