What are some clues for a fuel pump going out?

The car is acting very hesitate going down the road a 2000-3000rpms but not all the time, it comes and goes.

well, if it is intermittant, my guess would be ignition related. some symptoms though..... hard starting, long cranking times before the engine lights off, and low fuel pressure. find someone with a fuel pressure gauge, and measure your fuel pressure, see if is where it needs to be. check your filter too, make sure she isnt clogged ;) good luck

Sometimes a few bad plugs (or wires) can cause this too.

Standard fuel pressure should be like 40 or something when the car is in the ON position ready to be started right? I think I heard that at some point.

I am pretty sure it is 43 psi at idle. Don't swear by my word though. I may be, and am probaly wrong.

41-47 at idle with the vacuum line off the regulator. At idle with the vacuum line on, pressure should be lower (lower fuel demand). Pressure may be in the mid 30s.
