I would like to get my lower bumper painted like the CETA and blackbirds. I would like to see some pics of cars w/ this done. I have seen all of the pics on the GMMG site. I have a pewter ws6(lowered) with 18x9 and 18x10 smoothie II's on the way. I am leaning towards the black. What do you guys think. Does anybody know the exact colors or paint codes. Thanks in advance. :help:

Now that I see those pics, I think black would be SHARP!!!

There was another cardomain site of a guy with a silver one who had done the lower back bumper in black there and it was absolutely gorgeous. It should've come that way from the factory. Make it a gloss black and you're set!

Oh yeah, and stick a catback on that sucker! ;)

Thanks for the advice. I've been thinking about a catback or magnaflow.

Looks good both ways. I think that I am leaning towards the black because I just got the afterthoughts auto stainless steel fill in letters for the back of my car and think that it would make a good contrast. Thanks for your help.

Gloss or flat? IMO flat would look really good on there if you're using black.

What kind of paint did you guys use. I have a black WS6 and I was thinking gun-metal, should I go flat or glossy

1. Remove the tailights

2. after the tailights are removed, you see a bunch of plastic plugs holding the bumper on....remove those.

3. there are the same plastic plugs underneath the car as well. trace the perimeter and remove those too (when you go to take the bumper off, you notice if you have missed any).

4. there is a screw inside each wheel well that need to be removed, they are located in plain sight where the bumper meets the body.

5. remove the rear sail panels inside the car. look for 2 or 3 bolts (on each side) with nuts on them about half way down the body. one of the nuts on the passenger side is hidden by the antenna mount (if you have a power antenna). you can get to that nut without removing the antenna mount.

6. now the bumper is ready to come off, but a couple of precautions: there are three light bulbs still attached to the bumper, the two side marker and the license plate light. make sure you remove these (just like a tailight bulb, twist and pull) befor e you try to pull the bumper completey free. the second precaution there are bolt sticking out of the bumper (the studs that you removed the nuts from inside the car) make sure as you take the bumper off that your DO NOT let these come in contact with your paint.....they will scratch the hell out of it.

it's a lot simpler than it sounds and it is simple for one person to do on their own. PM me if you have any questions!

I'm in the process of asking bodyshops how much they'd charge to do it.

What colour should I use on my pewter TA? Dark charcoal, or black?

And where does the paint actually start? in the groove of the bumper? or....right after the groove (that runs along the bumper)

thanx folks!

I've got a pewter t/a and I think I'm gonna go with a dark charcoal color when I paint mine, mainly because I already have dark charcoal decals, so I want to stay within that color scheme.

As far as where the paint starts, I've seen it both ways; in the groove and right after the groove. I'll probably have mine start after the groove.

Sorry for the long post, but there is an even easier way to do this. I did this in semi-gloss black on the back of my red t/a. You can easily do this yourself. Start with some 1000 grit sandpaper and scuff the area so the new paint will stick, don't stay in one spot too long, just enough to where it looses a little shine. Then go to autozone and get some blue painter's tape, and some black flexible bumper paint. They make this in flat, semi-gloss, and glossy. You need to make sure that the aint has flexiblizer in it because it is a urethane bumper, otherwise it will crack. Then take some time and mask it out slowly. take your time, and you can get a nice straight line. Then scuff it with 1500 grit to get it ready to paint, and then hit it with some painter's degreaser or alcohol on a clean white rag. Then paint it with the spray can using smooth even strokes. I didn't even clear it, just left it semi-gloss. This sounds like a ghetto way to do it, but it turned out awesome on my car. I did this right after the CE's came out in 02. I don't have the car anymore, but I saw it driving around the other day and it looks like it was painted yesterday.

Oh, dont go through the trouble of taking the bumper off. Just jack up the car to get yourself some more leverage and mask it off. its easy
