View Full Version : What product should I use between Mothers Claybar and NXT Tech Wax...?

Ok so here is the process I use when I fully wash/wax the car.
Wash with Meguiars Gold Class
Mothers Clay Bar
<<<Insert Here>>>
Meguiars NXT Tech Wax
What Should I use between the Mothers Clay Bar and Meguiars NXT Tech Wax? I would assume that I should use some sort of polish, but my car doesn't have any serious (only very minor) scratches or swirl marks so I don't need anything abrasive. I do everything by hand so factor that in when telling me which product to use. Also critique my routine and tell me what you would change.
Thanks

Welp, I use this process:
Wash with P21S wash
Mother's Clay Bar
Menzerna Intensive Polish (with Porter Cable 7424 + Orange foam pad)
Menzerna Final Polish (with Porter Cable 7424 + White foam pad)
Blackfire All Finish Paint Protectant
P21S Carnuba wax (very high quality stuff)
If you don't want to go the machine polisher route, there are some good 3M products out there that will fit your bill, but I know little about. The Menzerna and PC 7424 work for me, but you have to use the PC 7424 when you use the Menzerna.
Let me know if you have any more questions...

What is the difference between...

#7 Show Car Glaze
Is that just the order in which they are more abrasive?

I'll let you decide...... Copied from their web site...
Machine Glaze
The ultimate machine-applied shine. Meguiar's Machine Glaze lets you achieve a deep, rich gloss unmatched by any other polish, glaze, wax or sealant. Rich nutrients penetrate and revitalize all paint finishes, as well as fiberglass and plastic. Buffing residue wipes off easily to reveal the original brilliance and clarity of your finish. For use with a rotary buffer only Made For Professionals
New Car Glaze
Enhances even factory-fresh finishes. The specially formulated nutrients in Meguiar's New Car Glaze restore the deep, radiant shine that even brief environmental exposure can begin to strip from an automobile's finish. Safe and effective on fiberglass and plastic as well as paint, this distinctive product lets you create a beautiful gloss with very little effort. For use by hand, orbital buffer or dual action polisher. Made For Professionals
Show Car Glaze
Legendary on the show car circuit. For those of you who love a hand-rubbed finish, this superb glaze is guaranteed to give you that deep, wet shine prized among car collectors. This polish will outshine all other hand-applied polishes, glazes, waxes or sealants. It won't dry white, and it's safe and effective on all paint finishes. Used as part of your 5-Step Surface Care Cycle, Show Car Glaze is just one of many Secrets of the Pros that add up to a superlative appearance for your treasured automobile. For use by hand, orbital buffer or dual action polisher. Made For Professionals
If the NXT is a cleaner wax (call Meguiar's to find out) it will remove a glaze you lay down before it.
The #3 Meguiars is more aggresive than the 5 or number 7. Number 7 is a show car glaze kinda like 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, just an oil to make the paint shine and fill imperfections, whereas number 3 would be more of an imperfection remover.....

Think they'd admit to that.....
ColorX, one of Meguiar's (sorry, I still can't spell it correctly) other new products, is what they recommend to prep with before NXT.

I thought Meguiars nXT was just a wax...not a cleaner wax?
This is what I decided to do use...
Wash with Dawn
Mothers Clay Bar
Rewash
Safe Cut swirl remover
#7 Meguiars Glaze
Meguiars NXT wax to seal everything up...
That should keep me busy all day.

Transam4life - The NXT has a micro abrasive in it that actually works to remove micro spiderwebbing when applied with a machine polisher. By hand, NXT will not really do anything to remoze swirls. If I were you, and you wanted to stick with a fairly simple routine, I'd insert Meguiars ColorX in between those two steps. ColorX has a chemical cleaner and more aggressive polishing characteristics than NXT. Applying #7 is a good idea, but NXT will probably remove most of it, and NXT on its own looks very pleaseing to the eye (not sure whether #7 is even necessary)
Just my thoughts

For removing any swirl marks, which are very minor to begin with since the car is silver, I plan to use the "safe cut" swirl and haze remover.
As far as using #7...it is basically a polish which is suppose to enhance the shine. I have heard alot of people using it before the NXT tech wax, and I'm sure it can't hurt.
Here is what I have planned...
Wash with Dawn
Mothers Clay Bar
Rewash
Safe Cut swirl remover
#7 Meguiars Glaze
Meguiars NXT wax to seal everything up...
