View Full Version : Which exhaust for the 3.8 Camaro?

Which exhaust sounds/flows well for the 3.8 F-body? I know that some that sound good on the LS1 may not sound good on the 3800 and others may.

Which is the best for flow? I have Magnaflow on my Z28 and was wondering if it would sound good on a friend's (possible) new V6 Camaro. Or would Flowmaster sound good, although I know it doesn't flow well on the LS1s.

BTW, are the coated Pacesetters AND Y-pipe for the 3.8 really only like $320?! Wow.

Pretty much any exhaust you put on a V6 will net you the same gains (not very much ;) ). Only difference between them all is the sound, which is where everything gets really opinionated :D

Ok. Thanks. Which would give the best sound? Looking for aggressiveness and a low rumble without sounding too high-pitched.

My Hooker Cat-back sounds pretty good as far as that goes.. combine that with a set of headers, and things start sounding pretty decent.

You seem to be the one in this forum to talk to!

Do the headers wake the car up at all on the 3.8 like they're supposed to on the LS1s as far as sound and power? And do they make the 3.8 sound ricey at all or meaner? I see you have the Pacesetter shorties, so I was just wondering.

I loved what the headers did for my car. Down low it gave it a little bit of a deeper tone to it, and on the highway, she really woke up. Before the turbo, the headers were the best mod i put on the car. The headers didn't change the sound at WOT and higher RPMs. Because of the cat-back, it never really sounded ricey or anything.

 Thanks. I'm finding all of this info out for a bud of mine trying to get a 3.8.

I found some sound clips of a few different mufflers on the 3.8 and some of them made it sound ricey, so I was worried. But I'll tell him to go with your catback if he gets one! I'm sure he'd also love the Pacesetters.

also, bigger piping will give a deeper tone. i have a 3" cat with 3" piping all the way back to a ravin muffler, and the coated pacesetters. mine sounds pretty decent for a 6... probably the best ive heard in my area (not many v6s w/exhaust though).

another thing about teh bigger piping is that he'll lose a little bottom end like i did, but the top end i feel makes up for it.

Next spring I am going to get the flowmaster catback system. They made one for the 3.8 camaro, last year. Right now I have a muffler I got off of a SS, sounds great until it gets to the higher rpm but that is going to be fixed one day.

I have the 3" SLP Loudmouth with a Dynomax bullet muffler installed where the SLP loudmouth's resonator was. Doesn't really sound like a V6 at all anymore. I also have 3 disc collector inserts welded into the intermediate pipe to help mellow the sound and it also took a lot of the rasp out of the exhaust note. I don't have headers, yet either. I have a cut-out for when I want wide open performance and I've had quite a few guys mistake the car for a debadged Z when it's idling with the cut-out open. :)

Could anyone get any soundclips for me or already have some by chance?

how about some true duals?
i had mine fabbed up for 320 bucks including moroso spiral flows. does drone some. but it sure humbles the ricers when you nail it.
