Its unreal trying to get parts to replace factory stuff.

Back in June I had an emissions error popping up...took the car in and come to find out there were some serious issues with the gas tank. The car was in the shop for a month because of a backordered part that they had to MANUFACTURE because there wasnt one to be found in the entire US territory NOR in Australia. I found this hard to believe. They put me in a Chevy Aveo during this time which made me postal as you can imagine. I bitched to the high heavens to corporate. It paid off because the part came in three weeks earlier than expected AND they paid one month of my car payment.

BUT NOW im still waiting on a speaker that was ordered back in June. I mean its NOT life or death here and I have my car, but I find it ridiculous that one little speaker can take that damn long.

I understand why this is going on but i had to rant about it...

I see the opposite end of this every single day.
Owners in N.A. being told there are no parts available, 2 months wait, or "no outlook" on parts.

Reports such as:
Only 3 wheel lug nuts on the shelf in all of North America.
Only one V8 Radiator Cap.
Down to the last 3 Alternators.
etc etc

And yet if I ask the G8 owner for the Part Number and check here in Aust there has never been a part yet that is not in stock by the hundreds.

There's at least 2 G8's I know of that have been off the road for 2+ months waiting on Pontiac drivers side steering wheel airbags.
Nil Stock in NA. No Outlook.
Yet there's a salvage place in Melbourne, Aust (where we have no Pontiac G8's on the roads) selling off cheaply those exact parts. They are also selling off the G8 alternators cheaply.

I'll let you draw you own conclusions as to why G8 parts are plentiful in Aust but not NA. It ties in well with why there are cheap Pontiac G8 specific parts for sale in Aust also.

IMO there is no reason why something like a radiator cap should ever be out of stock. FFS I could spend $50 and have 50 of them sent 10,000 miles in 3 days.

I dont particularly understand it either. I mean i do to some extent. Trying to keep their shelves clear for parts that may be replaced more often etc etc. Trying to get the Pontiac line cleared out. But lets just piss off the remaining owners...that makes sense!

And tonight...my car was towed to the shop once again. The gas tank has a major leak from the top end...no puncture as far as I can tell. The entire tank was covered in fuel. Leads me to believe that the tank they put on their is either bad OR they went too fast in replacing it and missed something and it came loose or broke. Im fucking irate right now. I have to go into work late, attempt to get a rental car etc etc. Fun shit.

I sure hope they're replacing the whole tank at this point. I'd demand it.

That sucks tals - which speaker blew?

As far as speakers, time to 'improve' Tell the dealer you will buy Boston of Infinity, and let them mount the new ones, instead-

They replaced the speaker...rear passenger.

The gas tank...i tried to speak to the service manager at the dealership that replaced the tank but he "wasnt available" soooooo hes going to get a nice letter which will be CCd to everyone and their brother. I lost an entire day at work as well as a 1/4 tank of gas and although that doesnt seem like much, the possible problems that could have ensued if I had not been aware of the issue is endless. I think that most broads probably wouldve smelled the gas but they wouldve thought nothing of it for a couple days. I am actually smart enough to get under the car and scope shit out. :dunno: its fixed but im still pissed off

my cousin had to wait for 3-4 weeks for a left rear trailing arm i think , something in the rear suspension that he was able to keep the vehicle but it blows. Shit shouldn't be on back order that long . But i guess thats what happens to a 2 yr vehicle.

We had some of the same issues with our 09 G8 GT. The gas tank was replaced (2 weeks no car) and then both rear speakers (2 week wait) and now the rear door speaker is out (part on order). Also had the entire front end repainted (insurance claim and a 3-4 week wait) after last years road salt/sand blasted the paint off the front end. That one ended up costing us an additional 500 because I had them put a clear bra on the car that way it didn’t happen again. The newest problem is the steering wheel controls working intermittently, but only the menu side. Considering all that’s been done, the dealership has been more than accommodating with replacement vehicles and keeping us updated on progress. All of this I attribute to an awesome service manager. It doesn’t hurt that it’s also a Mercedes dealership so that might be why customer service has been so good.

Despite the problems though, the wifey still loves the hell out of her car.

I have always been a Pontiac fan. I have had 3 Grand Prix GT's (my wife still drives one) and my daughter drives the sunfire. When I wrecked my 350z in 09, I bought the G8 as the replacement. A few weeks later Pontiac was cancelled. I attempted to take the G8 back, but was told I could not do it. I was told not to worry because the law requires all parts be available for 7 years. It is interesting to hear those parts are not available now as I was told by Pontiac.

It's just a North America thing.
Pontiac going the way of the Dodo and GM going bankrupt and being bailed out did big damage to the parts chain.
There are plenty of parts in existance globally. All GM N/A needs to do is pay suppliers for them and pay for the freight.

If it makes you feel any better Holden who made the G8 have now introduced
a heap of parts which were specific to the G8 into their normal range of Australian vehicles. Since mid 2009 the V8's used with Automatic Holden VE's are the same AFM L76 as in Pontiac G8....this is the most popular car on the road here for the last 6 years.
Additionally Holden now have 2010 Special Edition VE cars which use the same hood and front as the G8.
The left hand drive G8 , the VE Holdens in Australia, the Chevrolet Luminas & Caprices in the Middle East all share a huge amount of common parts.
All that is good news for the long term parts issue globally.
