Hey, im just curious to see what the majority of people look for in a restoration. please say which one is most closely what you prefer, or just say what it is you like if none really apply enough.

A) You want the car to be completely original. Matching numbers, original engine and transmission with orginal internals, restored interior to stock. You would prefer original paint, but resprayed original color is ok. Basically, if you bought the car at the dealer during that time, that is what you would get.

B) Not as worried about completely original. You would like numbers to match, but dont mind having a rebuilt engine or transmission. You dont mind about replacing some body panels or car parts so long as they work well. Rims and body must look like the original, even if they are new replicas.

C) You want a slightly original car. Prefer some numbers to match where they can. Though, you would like a slightly modernized car that is pretty original, yet can still perform. Different transmission, built up engine (preferably the stocker). Perhaps you dont mind having a different engine, so long as it was one intended for the car. You would prefer some new, nice rims and tires, for bling or performance. You'll throw in a modern sound system as well. You'll replace parts you dont like (find they dont work well enough for you) for better parts. A performance oriented classic car guy.

D) You frankly dont give a damn about matching numbers and such, so long as its the car you've been looking for and its legit, you want it. You're all about performance, it can have a totally different engine and tranny in it, different paint (color/style), different interior (color/style), even a roll cage. You would prefer some beautfiul high performance rims, tinted windows maybe. Every body panel can be replaced, with copys (fiberglass), lexan windows, roll cage. You want a moedernized performance HOT ROD!

D by far. It's my car, I want to build it how I want it to be. Pontiac just made the shell and the motor. That and they didn't make em nearly as fast as I want em be in the first place :drive:

I'm wth Zig on this one. My motto is "looks stock, drives not (stock)"

A) For my '67 GTO, vast majority of the car is still original including the engine, transmission and rear end assembly.

B) For my '65 442. Original engine is gone,425 out of a Delta 88 is going in. Original 2 speed trans is still there but getting changed to a TH 400 with switch-pitch converter. Changing the rear end gears from 3:08 to a more performance oriented ratio.
I still want the body, interior and wheels/tires to look stock though.

A/B.

I like cars that look and sound like they did when they left the dealer. I am doing a body off resto on a 65 442 and am trying to get everything as right as I can. The motor and trans are not original to the car BUT are 65 pieces that are dated to the build of the car. The only deviation is the discs I am adding and a mean set of wheels and tires.

I think the original look is the best way to build a car. Why not make it look like this?

D

My chevelle is far from stock mechanically, but it looks very stock on the outside with exception of larger wheels and tires.

Sounds like a musclcar should, and performs like one should.

I will NOT tub any musclcar though, that's where I personally draw the line on mods.

My opinion isnt up their............

I prefer having a 99 % #s matching while upgrading or replacing stock pieces.(but keeping all the stock parts)Like what I did to my 70 T/A.I took the stock #s match Ram Air III and built the shit out of it.While making it faster and stronger I upgraded the ignition system to HEI and MSD.Pulled the 3.23 rear gear and replaced with a 3:90.Took the stock #s matching Turbo 400 and installed a shift kit, high lift stall converter and beefed up the internals. But adjustable Koni's,HD coils,77 WS6 F & R sway bars and a 70 Camaro SS rear leafs.Replaced the stock Rally II's with Torque Thrusts and 245/60RX15 Kelly Chargers ect.............
