I have been thinking about this for some time.
If you could find a very small A/C unit out of say a Geo or other small car, could it be used to cool the intercooler?
I envision it to be a system where the fan would blow the cool air over the I/C. Would it not just be a simple re-route of the ductwork? I know that an A/C unit draws HP, but the decrease in temps would counteract that lose.
What about the hoses that get wet from condensation? They are cold and could be wrapped around the intake pipe to aid in the cooling.

Am I way off on this?

Your theory is sound, and would probably work provided you got everything to work properly... but i would think it would be a PITA. Alot of guys just use nitrous to cool their intercoolers.. there are some other options as well, but nitrous is the most common.

What you might do, is look at the schematics for ford's "Super Cool" (it uses the A/C) system, and see if that gives you any good ideas.

It will work not a problem but expensive compaired to a halo co2 system. We have similar stuff like this for ford vehicles it kind of trick Because at W.O.T. the compressor clutch disengauges and the horsepower is not being robbed at that point.

My dad has been talking about setting something like this up for years...and I even just read in one of the bigger car magazines that Ford is playing around with using the AC compressor to keep the intercooler temps down on the new 500+ HP supercharged modular series engines.

It would even work great if you could control it with a switch...you would just need to use it for a few minutes before a run or a race to cool everything down...then switch it off for the run...sure everything's going to heat up...but you started off at a much lower temp and hopefully your run will be over in about 10 seconds. ;)

Anyway...seems like it's way too much work for the average guy to do on his own.

:werd: Why not use water? Or even better yet, get some Methanol injection. :D
