For those G8 owners out there...what all did you do to the exhaust? Im tired of the quietness of the vehicle and need to make it loud quick. Any reasonable ideas that arent going to cost me over $1k to cover. Not looking to spend an insane out of money. And have you seen the size of the damn mufflers? GOOD LORD!!!

I was looking at the SLP Loudmouth but its Axel-Back and seems a bit ridiculous to purchase a system that contains basically pipes and tips. I could easily have a shop put something together very similar.

I also kicked around the idea of the MagnaFlow cat back but they want somewhere around $1200 for that thing and well...yeah NOT happening.

I was thinking of deleting the resonators and then replacing the mufflers with simple Flowmasters for the time being. Maybe some 10 series...

I dont know...any ideas are helpful...

Choose very carefully.
Almost all aftermarket exhaust mods on the G8-GT introduce an annoying drone, particularly when the AFM (displacement on demand) kicks in.

Turn your sound way up at 5:15 into this if you don't know the drone I'm referring to:

(Imagine listening to that for mile after mile at constant RPM)

I know the drone. I had straight pipes back from the cats as well as dual cutouts on my GTO. That thing on road trips was UNBEARABLE

I just HATE how quiet this car is and would rather deal with the drone than complete silence

It sucks compared to the Trans Am obviously, but in all honesty, I kind of like it with this car. It adds to the "sleeper" factor when rolling through in a 400+hp vehicle.

I recently put the MagnaFlow off-road x-pipe and the MagnaFlow axle back on my 09 GT.
Yes to the drone, but it is bad at about 45mph and again at 70mph. That sucks because those are the two average speed limits in and around my town. The only good thing the the drone goes away at 80 (which I stay at) and 40 or 50.
AutoAnything.com is where I got the entire set. I spammed google until I found a 10% discount for the website. I got the entire system shipped to my door for $727.
It sounds great!!!! IT is almost 25% lighter (MagnaFlow says) and they say the HP increase is around 20.

The bad news, I read every where it is something anyone can install on your own in about 1-1.5 hours with normal tools. What I was not told on any forum that I could find, was GM welds your bolts in place on your factory exhaust!!!!!
Since I recently sold my house and I am in an apartment until my new house construction is complete, I did not have my compressor which is needed to break the factory welds. I ended up paying $150 for a local company to complete the install. I am very happy with the purchase, the Kooks 1 7/8 midlength headers will fit later on. (Verified by Livernois Motor Sports)

Looking back, I would have spent the extra $100 to get the next version of the MagnaFlow. It has a resonator just before it leads into the Axle-Back.
Mine has no resonators, only the mufflers on the axleback.
Roll down the windows, keep it in manual-sport-shift and drive around town in 2 or 3 gear and man,,,,,, it sounds great. I started it up at the gas station the other night and the guy in a GT mustang was looking over at me out of the corner of his eyes. LOL, he was doing is best not to make eye contact, kinda like a squirel who runs to the other side of the tree when he sees you.
Can't wait until I get the Headers and cam.... $3500 I don't have just yet. Hopefully after my house is complete in October.

have you guys tried doing the washer mod on your factory exhaust to give it a little more growl?

We went with Kooks full system, LT all the way to the tips. youtube has some vids for ref. kinda $$ tho.. and you will need a tune to keep the rear 02's from tossing the ses light.

What I was thinking about doing when it becomes a strictly summer car here soon.

I went with stainless works full exhaust with the more aggressive sound package and love it, but most would prolly think its too loud
