View Full Version : Putting a supercharger on a 3.8

I recently bought a 98 Buick LeSabre with the 3.8L V6 in it and I was wondering if it would be possible to take a supercharger from a Regal GS, Riviera, Grand Prix GTP, or any other car that uses a supercharged 3.8 and put it onto my 3.8? I heard that the heads may be different or that my stock internals wont be able to hold up. DOes anybody know anything about this? Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Just get ahold of the supercharger and a set of GTP heads, and you're all set, if i remember correctly.

Wasting your time. While it can be done it will cost more than just getting an L67 and swapping in the whole engine. The L36 was not built to be a blown motor. Its compression will be too high to run much boost and you will need a lot of parts:
heads
injectors
fuel rails
lower intake
blower
tb
fuel pump
L67 computer
to solve the higher compression problem:
L67 (or L32) rods and pistons
And even after all that you are running the non HD tranny in that car so it wont last long. I assume that is a FWD car, if it isnt the tb wont fit, it will go right into the firewall since the blower/tb mating point is in the rear of the blower. About the only way to solve that is to get an adapter like the Aussies use on their blown RWD (Holden Monaros) cars to swing the outlet around so the tb can be mounted.

That's not true. Stock L36 compression is 9.4:1 i believe, and i run 10psi on my stock internals.

Its not like Im trying to run 12's in the LeSabre, I just want some more power and if I can add a blower just by switching the heads I think it would be worth it. I doubt it will ever go to the track so it will probably never be put under a whole lot of stress.
But if I need to change all of those components then I will find some other way to get some more power out of the 3.8

Assuming you do the bare bones to get it bolted on it will still include:
heads
lower intake
blower w/throttle body
injectors and fuel rail (L67s have much bigger injectors)
fuel pump (stock L36 wont keep up with fuel demands)
computer
While more expensive you can find CSC kits and turbo kits for the L36 if you want more power.

.linkage removed WB94
As for the turbos go to www.clubgp.com and do some searches. I think several of the companies making parts will do turbos but you have to call them
