well i have a stock converter... only other things i have done performance wise are an aftermarket y-pipe with a turndown, and 3.73s and HPP3.... i have a 99 SS...

anyways i notices that sometimes before my car shifts it will bog down and wont "get up and get."

it bogs down sometimes... someone told me that is my converter locking up and i need to get a new one? any thoughts?

The torque converter is supposed to be locked up; it's a feature they started in the late 70's to reduce heat in the transmission and help fuel economy.

Now, when you throttle the car, it will unlock depending on how much foot you're giving it. The programming of the PCM controls this and its most important input is the throttle position sensor.

HPP3 is not capable of changing the lockup programming. Edit is.

Nothing you've posted is indicative of the need for a new converter.

If you bought an aftermarket TC, that bogging down would magically dissappear. :drive:

I agree totally, I went from a stock converter to a Y3000 2.0 STR, coupled to my already installed 3.73's, in a 2001 Z28.

After a dyno tune, the vehicle runs like a scalded ape. With agressive throttle, I come out of the upshifts at 4200 RPM (shift extension), NO MORE BOGGING DOWN, NO MORE FALLING FLAT ON MY FACE BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH.

A performance converter WILL definetly make it into a different car.

That's what I said but I want a bigger one now. Don't make the mistake and go big the first time. You won't regret it. :D ;)

smaller converter generally = bigger stall.

had to say it. :D :p

did you install the HPP3 power programming? If so, remove it.

Also a "bog" before a shift sounds like TM kicking in to me. I have TM issues but I also have a 4600 stall.
