View Full Version : More Rumors
I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine who works in the V8 group at GM in Milford. This may be old information.
The SSR will be upgraded to a 380 hp LS2
Chevy will offer an "HHR" version of the SSR that will take styling cues from the 55-57 Chevy Nomad.
The C6 will get a 500 hp 7 liter LS7 engine in its second year of production. They are anticipating producing a 640 hp 8.75 liter V10 engine for the third year of production.
The Cadillac XLR will have a supercharched Northstar producing over 400 hp.
The rumor he has heard is that the Camaro (possibly not the Firebird) will be returning based on the Holden platform not the Sigma.
We're going drinking this weekend. I'll bring a pen so I can make more notes on the bar napkins. :D
Those some pretty good rumors!
I wonder what kind of Corvette a V10 would go in? I'm thinking if they do that it'll be a specialty/limited edition car that costs big bucks.

Rick, this seems to be dead on with what info I have. And check this out. Buick is going to bring in the first of the Zeta chassis, that the next line up of RWD and AWD cars will be build on. And its on a shorter wheel base of teh Zeta chassis, which will be exactly the chassis the Camaro will be brought on. The Name for the design is Velite. Ill post a seperate topic on this, but it sounds pretty cool The HHR will be FWD from what info I have? Off the upcoming Lambda chassis?
And yeah, the 5.3 will come in the GP GXP from the info I have.

FWD with a 400hp V8?
Something just doesn't seem right there.

Sounds roughly familiar with what I have heard also. But only 380hp from the LS2? I hear 400+.

FWD and 400hp? where the hell do you see that?
Are you talking about the HHR? The HHR will not be getting the LS2. The HHR will be about the size of a PT Cruser, and based off the Cobalt chassis, just like the PT is based off the Neon.
And teh LS2 going into the SSR will probably be "detuned" like they have been doing for 35 years. The 380 is probably due to a weaker cam, but the LS2 probably is more like 425hp, so the "380hp" will be more like 400.
Only thing that has me puzzled is the V10 in the Vette. Something like that just seems very strange. Rumors of the blue devil, or super vette keep coming up, and going away and coming back. With the Vettes 500 hp and shade over 3k lbs, the Z06 will stick with the likes of the Ford GT and other such super cars for a much cheaper.
And Evyl, GM is finaly going to make a AWD, 270hp, 6spd coupe. The G6 might come in this combo. 3.9l OHV VVT engine with 6spd and AWD coupe and sedan GXP model could show up in the next year. The 270 is likely to move up to 280 perhaps.

I really hope they come out with the Vette with that much hp.
But I shutter to think of the price.

I haven't heard of any V10's being developed for the Vette. I've heard rumours of the blue devil Super Vette but that has a V8.

No FWD 400hp V8's. Torque steer out the yin yang.
The 5.3 V8 is supposed to have less than 300 hp in the FWD Monte, Impy, and GP. You'd still probably be looking at some serious torque steer but 400hp would be insane.

My impression was that the HHR was a LS2 powered version of the SSR. Am I wrong there?

That is mine with me... I think it would be fun to completely trick out a LS2 powered convertible pickup. That would rock.

Let's hope. I am holding my breath that they don't screw it up by giving it an automatic.

No, the HHR will be based off the Delta platform (Ion, cobalt) so it will be a FWD car. Think of a PT Cruser with an SSR like front end. I have a picture from GM.

guess they have to find some way to beat the viper
that's dodge's advantage...they started with a 10-cylinder.
but wouldn't a 10 go against the vette formula or philosophy?
Yeah, I'd have a heart attack if a vette rolled out with a V10 under the hood.
If they do decide on some limited production supercar vette, I honestly hope they don't go with a V10. Ever heard what a Viper sounds like? Kinda reminds me of the UPS truck...

yeah, but have you heard the Lambo? Ferrari?
And GM doesnt need a V10 to beat the viper. If rumors hold true, they can pull it off with a V8.
Yep, a 500HP V8 in a 3100LB car would do it!
I've heard Lambos and Ferraris, but only V8 and V12's. I haven't heard a V10 Lambo or Ferrari yet.

in that new Galliardo, it has a V10. As for ferrari, I thought the 360 had a V10.
The 360 has a little 3.6L V8 that puts out 400HP.

You guys are too gullible. no way will they put a V10 in a vette. the Viper already has it. There won't be a 7 liter either. it's already pretty much confirmed the LS7 is a 383 with 3valve per cylinder technology. V10 isn't exactly the most balanced or smoothest motor either...
Tradition has a big part to do with it. It will always be a V8. No one even knows completely if the Z06 will have 500hp yet. I just hope they car is under 3000lbs. A 2900 lbs Vette with one of the stiffest sports car chassis in the world and say at least 450hp would be insane. I hope GM doesn't pussy out and make a 500hp car. I'd love for them to underate at 475 or something when in reality it would put down 450 to the wheels. :D

well, considering the info he said was basicly dead on with what I knew, I am still iffy on the V10. I dont think anyone is totaly beleving him.
And I hear more and more rumors of a 7.0 427ci 3v 500hp.
and how is GM a pussy for making a 500hp car?

i highly doubt it will be a v10. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the only v10 gm makes goes into the big trucks. if they were developing one for cars, i'm sure we would've heard about it by now.
BUT, i'm still hoping for a v12 xlr-v

GM doesnt make a V10. They tried making one from the Gen III motors, but there was some tuning issues. GM could make a V10 for their trucks, and the big 8.1 V8 could be gone. The V10 would probably make more power, get the same gas milage, and produce better emisions.
And that XV-12 Northstar would be nice in the XLR. A great V12 fighter with the SL600.

They've gotten to the point to where they are such a joke that they aren't good for what they were designed for, and most of the people that own them don't need a big behemoth like that.

i remember ads for an available v10 vortec in a silverado... who knows
but i just read that the reason the corvette v8 (i'm assuming ls2) won't be used in the xlr is that it won't fit, so i guess we're getting a supercharged northstar
Big Als Z28

The LS2 should fit. The northstar is a much bigger motor due to the DOHC design. I have an article on the V12 that says the dimentions, but I remember it wasnt that much bigger then a gen III small block.

A supercharged northstar will probably put out more hp then the LS2. Probably around 450-460hp. This motor will find its way into the STS-V also, and do battle with the E55 and M5.

 I need one to tow my 4 place snowmobile trailer, be able to carry 5 people and all the gear that goes along. Although I do agree that they aren't needed for the soccer mom's doing daily driving in the city.
I got to ride in the 5.3 liter (on demand) Envoy last night. It cuts down to 6 - 4 cylinders depending on engine load. It is an odd sensation when that happens, almost like shifting. Apparently that is going on sale later this year.
He did also mention that the 4.3 liter will be getting LS1 heads (?) That engine will still be used for work trucks and vans. I had a few beers at that point and don't quite remember everything clearly.
They did pick up some c6 Vettes from Bowling Green this past weekend to do testing on. I was promised a ride in one when I return from vacation in early April. I will make sure to take a picture with a penny. :D I have to go find some aspirin now.
