I have not gotten an ETA on hood deliveries from the first GP. I am pretty sure he started working on hoods as they were paid for so as not to have a ton of them to do at once.

Also, I will ask him about sponsoring the site. Who or where do I need to get him going to find out sponsor info?

GP Update: I have talked to Roger at US Exotics about the LS2 GP. He asked for a couple of more weeks before the GP launches because he wants to make sure he is completely caught up from the previous GP from the "other place." :D They way it looks right now is the GP will start probably 04/01/04 and go through at least 04/15/04. As soon as everything is set, I will let everyone know. There will be a thread in this forum as well as Camaro, Appearance & Body Mods, BnG & anywhere else i can think of where it will get a response.

I don't know for sure if it will include the Superhawk Outlaw or not. It will depend on if the hood is ready for production or not by then. I hope it is, though. That hood has gotten a HUGE response & all the comments I have seen have been favorable.

i made my payment on feb 7 so it took him about a month to make and ship. not bad at all. I cant wait to install it either my body shop says itll be ready next tues.

I was probably one of the last to get in, I made my payment on the day before it closed, so I guess that would have been Feb 14th. I should be one of the last people notified. I can't wait! :D

I will post pictures as soon as I get the hood, however, I probably wont have it painted and on the car for a couple months afterwards though... :(

outlaws are the higher sitting cowls. im getting the 95 warbird. it has i believe the 1" cowl and the outlaw warbird version is 3".

I went with the regular Superhawk hood...my reasoning behind it is I wanted something different and where I live WS6s are very common, but theres almost no Firehawk style hoods, so I figure, if Im going to be a poser, I might as well be a more elite poser! :D

Constrictor, I think it will look good. And you won't really be a poser because it isn't a official Firehawk hood and you aren't putting the decals on the side, etc. Coming from a firehawk owner, I give you permission:D And of course, post those pics everyone when you get them!

my hood arrived today:D I also went with the superhawk too many ws6 in my town no firehawks at all. The hood looks great, nicely packaged, and i liked the vents they were all mesh instead of the plastic. The bodyshop guy said it was a great piece of fiberglass, i dont know much of fiberglass. hes charging me 600 to paint and install the hood. He said he was going to paint the headlights too, and blend the fenders with the new paint, and buff out the whole car. i cant wait till next week:D

question. im getting the warbird hood for a 95. it states the hood is fully functional and will work with the factory airbox. i dont have one. so i was thinking.....would the air box for the slp ram air h.o. hood work on my car with the warbird? my buddy has a 96 factory ram air and this slp air box looks pretty much dead on. wasnt it slp who tricked out the ws6's anyways?

I would think the SLP system would work. And yes, it was SLP that did the WS-6's from '93-'97.

Just an FYI, I have had a Us exotics WS6 hood for about a year and it is well worth the money. The fit was the hardest part, but still beats the hell out of paying $1200 for a stock hood.
I bought mine on fleabay back in Nov of 2002 when they were $495, about 2 weeks after I won my hood he bumped them upto $595 and have been that price ever since.

They are some top notch guys but be sure to inspect the hood before the driver leaves as mine was cracked near the front corner. My wife signed for it and didnt inspect it but the guy at the shop I had paint it fixed it up for me.

If anyone is near the D/FW area I can give you a contact for the guy I used and he charged me $200 for the painting of the hood.

Well considering all the posts about how the "Ram Air" on the WS.6's, etc doesn't really help and with the success of the FTRA, and SSRA kits, if I were you, I would not spend the money on the SLP system and just get a nice CAI. However, if when you open up your hood to show the car you want it to be functional, then that is the way you should go. Plus I am not sure how efficient the Ram Air system was on the LT1's. It looks like it was better than the LS1 system was since most of the air came from down below...

I got an email from Roger today saying that my hood will be shipped by the end of the week. He just finished a new mold for the WS9 hood and that's why it's taking him a while. I don't mind waiting either :D

i got my superhawk hood and its already installed and painted. I just got it back today. im not too happy with the fitment, it has like 1/4inch of a gap from hood to the bumper. i dont know what to think he says he played with it for over an hour and thats the best he can do. To make it any better he would have to take off the bumper cover, strip it and shave of some of the center part and finally repaint and actually jam it up in. He said to bring it back on monday to see what he can do.
On the upside the paint job is great and the hood looks great from 5 ft away. it really looks awesome. Up close though you can see the gap, everyone says its not that bad its alot when your spending cash. anyways ill try and get pics soon, my dog chewed the digicam cord.

i also received an email from roger today from where i sent one to him on the 19th. he stated to me that he was backed up but was catching up and that the hood should be done this week also. i too do not mind waiting so long as i know whats going on. Roger seems to be a good guy though. Pleasant emails.

Its not terrible, I just dont think the body shop he went to did enough to make it look good. One glaring mistake I see is that the nose of the car wasn't cut to fit the lines of the hood, and you can see part of the nostril area is overlapping onto the bumper.

ALL Firehawk style hoods (even GM ones) require the bumper to be cut a little to fit, and it doenst look like this body shop did it.

The gaps around the headlight seem to be consistent with other Pontiac F-bodies.

The worst offense I see is next to the drivers side panel, right above the drivers side headlight, the gap is too big.

Like I said, it isn't perfect, but if you think this is terrible, you obviously haven't seen many aftermarket hoods, cause many of them are atrocities. All aftermarket hoods require at least a little "massaging" to get them to look right. As Killer said, some body shops wont even work on an aftermarket hood without the owners signing a release form or something.

That was one of the first things I noticed about the US Exotics hoods was that you didn't need to cut the bumper. It looks like he builds them to not require that. Also, the tolerances on this pic around the headlights looks alot better than in the pics above. I assume the body shop didn't work too hard on getting that hood on.

Maybe its just the white pictures then cause on that white car, the lip looks like its overlapping the bumper, whcih makes it look kinda crummy, however in the unpainted pic, it looks all nice.

I think its safe to say the place he took that hood to get painted didn't do a very good job.

You can't expect any aftermarket $500 hood to have the fit and finish of a GM $1300 hood. There are going to be some compromises, which I am willing to accept. I just hope mine looks at least as good as the pic of the unpainted one above.

like i said guys im not too happy

drivers side has too big of a gap between fender and hood

i didnt get a good shot of the left corner of the front but the gap actually gets very close. Last night the passenger headlight would not even come up because it rubbed with the hood on the left corner. i had to give a nice hard tap to come up.

front of hood is not actually overlapping its just pushed tight to the bumper.

the hood cant slide down anymore and bumper isnt going to be pushed up anymore. So what can he do?

went back this monday he said that my bumper is not even a GM part, just by looking at it. He said he would charge me another 650 for a new bumper and to make it look good. i said no thanks.
this monday im going to try a few more body shops, I did buy the car used so i dont know if the bumper is GM or not. I hope all I need is new bumper to make it fit good. Hey do you guys know if there is any diference in the firebird and trans am bumper? I noticed us exotics used a firebird.

i think its not hinged properly!? if you look at the middle pic of the 3, the "lip" part of the hood is not even fitting flush with the indentation of the bumper where the lip is supposed to meet. in the prototype shot...it is flush. but in the middle pic.....it needs to go forward about 1/4 inch to fit flush. this would then cause every other gap on the lines to come together. it looks like the front of the hood needs to come down and to the right while the rear of the hood needs to go down and to the left. its cock eyed. see what i mean????

i think i get what your saying, when your saying it needs to go up and down, your talikng vertical as in straight up at hinges right? I noticed that also its slanted a little.
I bet i could even play with it for an hour and get a better fit. maybe ill try that . i have yet to even pop the hood.
Heres a thought guys in the prototype there doesnt seem to be any room at all for the headlights to move up and down. if i were to slide the hood all the way down i think it would meet all the edges perfectly. you think he forgot to take the headlights into consideration?

You also have a small amount of play with the metal covers on the headlights There are I think 4 screws that hold them on and you can slide them around abit...just another point of adjustment.

I got an email from Roger yesterday that his WS9 mold was damaged and he had to make a new one from scratch, so there was quite a bit of a delay. He plans on getting all of the hoods from the first GP shipped by the end of next week.

I anticipate word of another GP after that, which would probably be the second week of April, although I don't know for sure, since I am not organizing it.

Unfortunately, US Exotics is a one man operation, so any delay, regardless of the reason, will delay shipment of all hoods. I have a Superhawk hood on order, so the WS9 mold shouldn't have affected mine either. Oh well...patience is a virtue! :D

Mike, sorry I haven't already replied to your PM. But Roger told me he sent you an e-mail letting you know what was happening with the WS9 hood mold causing the delay.





As far as the next GP, due to the delay with the new WS9 mold, the next GP will be starting a little later than initially planned. I hope it won't be much longer.But Roger wants to wait until he is completely caught up before starting the next GP. As soon as he lets me know its ready, everybody at LS2.com will be the first to know.:cool:

just remember this for mine.....mine is a warbird hood for an lt1. if you are getting the ws9 he was having problems with the mold. just a thought. its as bad as christmas coming when you were a kid isnt it! :drool:

just remember this for mine.....mine is a warbird hood for an lt1. if you are getting the ws9 he was having problems with the mold. just a thought. its as bad as christmas coming when you were a kid isnt it! :drool:

Its not so much the wait, its the lack of information. I know hes a one man operation, but come on, how hard is it to go online at least once a week and give updates to people.

I'm going to have to be damn impressed with the quality of this hood to give this guy a positive recommendation afterwards because his customer service is pretty poor if you ask me! :(

Hey guys I saw the ws9 hood and it looks great. I have been talking with Roger and he has just made the WS9 Outlaw. Its basically just like the regular ws9 except it stands 3 inches tall at the rear instead of the normal 1 3/4 i think. Heres the link. Great for people like me who want a beefy ram-air hood. Let know what u guys think.

Well, I am going on 9 and a half weeks. I emailed Roger last night. I'll let you know when I get a response.

Constrictor, keep me posted on what's up. I haven't talked to Roger in a couple of weeks. I was leaving him alone so he could get the backlog caught up. But I still am keeping tabs on all of this. So keep me informed.

I will let everyone know as soon as everything is set for another GP. Once again, I apologize for the delay. The mold having to be redone from scratch caused a delay that I am not happy about & I know Roger is unhappy with the delay as well.

I dont want you or Roger to think I am trying to be overly negative, but I think his lack of communication is downright unacceptible. I offered to back him as a potential sponsor of this board, but I wouldn't do that now because I think that no matter how small you are, customer service is your most important quality.

I completely understand that shit happens and his mold going bad wasn't his fault. Its just that there is NO effort on his part to keep in contact with his customers and sending him an email takes days for a response.

I am sorry, but if I ran my own business, I would take 5 minutes a day to at least check my email before I went to bed or something to respond to my customers and give updates every once in a while if a delay comes up.

If I was told when I ordered it would be 10 weeks to get my hood, it wouldn't have been so bad, its just the not knowing that is a problem.

Nevertheless, I am still waiting and look forward to getting my hood since I have heard so much positive word about his quality. I just think that the next time he does a GP, he should be more prepared to get his products out in a timely manner and do a better job of letting people know whats going on.

I got e-mail from Roger today. He said that his new mold for the ws-9 outlaw was finished and that he was going to start casting hoods out of this week. He said my hood should be finished and ready ship out next week.

I also just received an email from Roger profusely apologizing for the delays and his lack of communication. He said my hood will ship tomorrow or Thursday and made me an offer to help ease my frustration.

btw...mine is fitting very nicely with just myself and my roommate putting it on. all the lines match right on up. just needed to adjust the front latch and all is well. i've been curing it on my car for the last week and now i just need to find someone who will do a great job for the prep, paint, and fitment. cool thing is my t/a is black so i dont feel too bad about running around with it on unpainted since the gel coat is black. i tell you what though.....havent had this many compliments from people on the street just coming up to me since i put this hood on along with the chrome y2ks for sure! :2thumbs:

The next GP probably isn't going to be for a couple months, Roger is busy catching up on all the WS9/Superhawk orders he has. The person/people running it is U.S Exotics, they should have a website up soon.

As soon as Roger tells me he is ready, the GP will start. US Exotics is the company making the hoods. Roger is the owner. As far as the person setting up the GP, I imagine that will probably be me. Just keep watching the forums. I will be starting a thread in probably every forum on here when the next GP starts.

Be careful how you approach advertising a GP, because he is not a sponsor, and that would violate posting guidelines. You should tell Roger that he should really consider paying the fee to be a sponsor, even if its for only 3 months, that way he can do as much advertising as he wants and he even gets a banner.

We'll let a thread or two in a specific forum go as long as it doesn't get too big, but if it spreads all over the board, it will get closed down.
