I store my car over the winter which has led to some problems..
Seems my bushings are now noisey :(
But worse, my rims look horrid! Looks to be some thick dirt /brake dust on the rims. I tried using a toothbrush to manually clean them, but that didn't work well.
Any ideas? I don't know what else I can do that wouldn't eat away at the plastic coating.

Might have to get new bushings. It would help with road noise and handling anyways so why not :)
Also - you might have to claybar your rims.

Any claybar you would suggest? I"m tempted to order some Zaino and get a extra claybar and use that one.
Anyone hear of a website that will rechrome and re plastic coat rims?

I'm goin to check Advanced Auto today and see what clay bars they have in stock..
I hate ordering through Zaino and having to pay those 8 bucks for shipping, I feel like I have to spend like $200 to justify it :D

I agree.... you don't have to get it from their website... Email them and ask for your nearest distributor. I would NEVER NEVER buy anything for car care from a national chain like Advanced Auto :no:

Just pick up some Clay Magic from your local auto parts store.
Sal's bar is too soft.

There are good claybars located in auto parts stores. Lots of people in the detailing community get a certain one from there.

Update on my rim situation.. I found a Mothers Clay bar kit at Advanced auto..
So today I washed my car.. then used a brand new toothbrush to clean the rims.. then cleaned, washed the rims alone, then used the claybar and hand dried etc..
There is still alot of it left on the rim.. I think part of the problem is when you run your finger over the stain on the rims.. its smooth. I think thats why the claybar wasnt able to get it.. I"ll try to post some pics in a bit.. :(
:badpost:
If they still have the clear coat...
use 409 for the heavy grit and grime.
don't spread stuff around with the clay bar,

were your rims clean before you put the car away?

Yea. I detailed the car before I put it up.. I"m just wondering if I somehow managed to stain the rims.. I dunno.. I know its defiantly brake dust b/c its not nearly as present as it is on the rear rims.
My poor baby. :(

I've NEVER seen a claymagic bar. I've looked for one too :( Must be my local auto chains that have the crappy products :umm:

Anyone know of places that fix/recoat chrome rims?

get some mothers chrome polish.... that stuff turned my zo6's into a mirror ... got all the water spot stains and stuff off as well.... jus rub it in until you see the stains go away then let it dry and wipe off after its dry.

i think the last time i bought one was at autozone. i know i bought my first one there.
i find that all these guys never seem to carry the same parts at all their stores, which pisses me off. i'm to the point now that i call all around before i drive out some where.

I thought your not supposted to use the chrome cleaner since these rims have a plastic coating? I"m not sure though..
Today I"m goin wash the car and see what I can do about the rims. I think I"ll try to do the toothbrush, but I"ll have to go buy another claybar.

I have been using Orange Blast for at least the last year and pretty much anything else on the shelf at walmart or auto store to remove brake dust and clean chrome rims.
I have not pits, dirt or any problems with mine for now 3 years and still looks new. Just don't leave the cleaner on for longer then suggested.
Using Black Fire now and did what they recommended and put a coat of the protectant on and they came out great. For that I would recommend Black Fire for the whole car. Stuff worked great and no complaints.

Are they the SLP chrome rims? Thats what I have and I'm not aware of any plastic coating. The SLP manual says nothing about it. As a matter of fact, it just says to make sure your wheel cleaner is safe for polished rims.

I've used Mothers chrome polish and now I have a bottle of Turtle Wax Chrome polish and it works great. Here's recent pic..

This pic was taken at the World of Wheels back in Jan. My best friend also used my T/W on his chrome wheels on his '02 Hawk.
