Hey guys, need some help here. ive got a 79 Trans Am SE Gold. the car needs to be repainted however.
im not a huge fan of the stock gold, as far as what i can see thats on the car. what is a good gold to use?
i like the darker bolder colors, but i want the car to brighten up in certain light, so im thinking about a dark bold gold with bright metal flake.
what is out there like this? also, can someone comment on the Pontiac Chestnut color (1986). ive never seen it in person, but from pics it looks pretty good. thanks :)

I suggest that you go down to the body shop ure gunno go with, and ask if they have any sample books, they should have tons of olours you could go with. Because I wanted a base/clear with mine, the original colour looked pink. So the body shop let me rifle through their samples, and I picked a couple, and then they sprayed up some sample sheets for me to decide.
And, just a thought, if you're going to change colour, it may be a good idea to go with a newer colour just incase you get some damage, it will be easier to obtain that colour again for the repair.

Dude, stick with the factory color. It will help value-wise. I'm sorry but custom flaked paint jobs on 2nd gen look waaay to white trash:o
Open the hood and look on the fender near the master cylinder, there should be a bunch of codes on a tag. One of them is the color code. That's the one you need. Go to a bookstore and pick up a buyer's guide, it'll have pictures of what I'm talking about.

Sorry I can't remember much more than that. Its been a while since I had my t/a:D
Like I said, a peek at a buyers guide should do the trick. I could dig up my old books but it'd take me awhile if you can wait a week or so.......

ive got plenty of time, if ud be willing to do that, i would really appreciate it.
though, why would a metal flake paint job look white trashy? i think the way it is now, dull, rusted, dented, looks white trashy. a bold, deep, semi-dark gold with some metal flake to brighten it would look nice.

You should have the color codes 50U and 50L on your cowl tag. 50 is the code for the Solar Gold.

The body/paint shop should have a cross reference catalog that tells them how to mix it. I however, went with Sport Gold Metallic ("98 only) It wasn't a high dollar job, but i'm happy with it.

Well, there's a funny story about that... I could take some without the bra but I have it on ther because I had a slight fender bender about two weeks after I got it painted and it took off some of the paint on the front bumper. I'll try to get some pics without it anyway though.
