I was set on ordering a convertible but I'm really starting to lean towards either the coupe instead. I like the looks of both but the main reason for a coupe will be less headaches from track officals about not having a cage when the car is running 11s or faster. Both cars are supposed to be shown together in Houston, Ft Lauderdale and NYC so I might check out one of those shows. I think FL will be the choice so I can get away from the cold for a few days :)

I'm gonna get one, in about twenty years, or when I win the lottery. :)

I am but it will be a couple of years. I want a decent aftermarket to develope first as well as some time to work out the kinks with the new model.

We will probably wait for the second year C6 "race" version (will it be Z06? Who knows?)
GM will probably "softball" the first year again, then throw down the gauntlet on the second year.
Odd story:
Two guys show up at the track Sat with Porsches. We start talking cars. One says he saw a new C6 in Escondido??? Said it had MFR plates, and when the guy popped the hood, there was a Lingenfelter Twin Turbo motor in it. Driver said they were doing durability testing....
The Blue Devil??>>
Who knows. The guy sounded for real and was about 60. He wasn't a big vette guy either. He pronounced Lingenfelter wrong even, and didn't know the new vette was called the C6. He said it had fixed headlights...
HMMMM....

Oh, and the driver said the motor was 650HP.

Maybe. I'm waiting for the Z06 version, and hoping by then that I MAY be used to that god-awful headlight treatment. I don't hate it quite as bad as I did when it first saw it, but it is still taking some getting used to. :)

the Z06 will be a 3-valve head design supposedly. ~500hp. there is rumor of a ZL1 (remember the all aluminum 427 from 69?) with 650hp.

They don't work out the kinks. The 04 still has the same gas gauge problems. The steering wheel column lock problem is still there. They did eliminate the Headlight motor problem by eliminating the flip headlights.

I'll get one................gonna wait a year or 2 though............
Patman
02-22-2004, 05:52 PM
Why is everyone planning on waiting? That's what warranties are for. The 97 Corvette was no less reliable than the 98, so anyone who waited in that case only ended up punishing themselves.
If I had the money, I'd have no problem picking up the very first C6 that came off the assembly line. If it turned out to be a total lemon, GM would replace it with a brand new one anyways!

Like stated above why wait......The 97 -04 Vette's basically have the same problems:rolleyes:

I don't like C5s in silver too much but I love the C6 in silver! I thought Daytona Orange would be my favorite C6 color but now it's so hard to decide (not that I'll be lucky enough to get a C6, but I still like to pick the options in my head as to what car I'd order if I could)

I am 2cnd in-line at my dealer for a coupe. Should take delivery in Oct Nov of this year. A Z/51.
Better yet........I am #1 on thier list for their 1st Z06. Will trade the Z51 on it
Cant hardly friggin wait :)

If you're second in line why do you have to wait until Oct/Nov to get it? It's supposed to be on the streets much earlier than this, I believe production starts in May or June.

I live in the sticks..........small town dealer...only sells 8 -9 Vettes a year.
He thinks he will get his 1st one in Aug - Sept, 2cnd on in Oct - Nov....I hope he is wrong, and it comes sooner.
He says he thinks they will start taking orders in May...that part will be fun too

I could be a future (somewhat distant future) C6 owner but only after I satisfy my need for a C5 to replace my C4 first. :drive:

You are a very wise man to not jump on the C6 Bandwagon right away. Did'nt the '97 C5 have some problems? I'm looking forward to the C6 Z06. I prefer the Coupe but who can not like 500hp the C6 Z06 is proposed to have out of the factory, at least that is what I've heard?

I knew you were a smart fella;) Hold on to that beautiful C5 for a loooong time, my friend. I admire the well taken C3's kept by the original owner.

I don't know if the official MSRPs have been released yet, but they're going to be very close to the C5's price range.

I'll have to see a black coupe or a Le Mans blue coupe in person before I would even consider the car.
We can't really tell anything about the car at this point by just looking at C6 pictures.
I would need to test drive the car w/Z51 and put it through the ringer. Then we'll see.

I was just reading through these threads and I seen the exact same thing that this guy did last week In Teays Valley W.V. It was a vette with the C6 front end and had some weird ground effects with gold rims. On the back of the car on the right hand side in blue it said Lingenfelter twin turbo 650. I almost wrecked tryin to roll down my passenger side window while I was driving to get a better look!!! There was a Vert C5 following him and they went toward Huntington WV. They were both silver.
