Is it worth paying someone else to do it? I will be needing a new clutch in the near future, but I am compentplating(sp) weather or not I should do it myself.

We don't know what tools you have, your prior mechanical experience, or what car it's in. F-body clutches aren't bad other than the added work of undoing the tq. arm. The LS1 T56 hydraulic quick disconnect line is a bit of a chore. And the T56 weighs ~120lbs. I wouldn't pay someone to do it because I can do it as good or better than a mechanic, and the $ / time ratio is proper for me to do it myself. That's why I do 'em for others. :)

The hardest part is getting the transmission out and back in. The clutch itself is pretty easy if you have the right tools. If you know what you are doing you and a buddy could knock things out in about 1 1/2 - 2 hours (est). Like jmd, I have done it so much I could do mine by myself in that time. WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS.:)

I imagine the difference would be night and day depending on if you had a lift or not. I was able to do mine at work on a lift and we had a transmission jack and all the right tools. It still took us 8 hours to do that and change out the master cylinder. The master takes a good couple hours by itself. :rant2:
