I bought a used Midwest 3400 stall 2.0 STR converter from another forum member. I paid $350 to have it installed at a local transmission shop on friday june 11. Here are my initial thoughts about it:
when I picked it up and was backing out of the parking lot I realized just exactly what "loose" meant. I had to give it more gas to get it to back up. when I put it in drive and pulled out of the shop the car was sluggish because the stall was so much higher and I wasn't used to giving it the right amount of gas. But when I hit the gas to see what it could do, man did it take off!!
the acceleration is very addictive and the "dead spots" from the stock set up are gone.
I am still not 100% used to driving it around in the city. it still seems to require too much throttle to maintain regular driving speeds. and the biggest problem is the sound from the exhaust now. I don't mean it is annoying, but it just is a lot more prevalent since I am giving it more gas. the best way to describe the city driving is that it gives me the feeling that I am driving a manual transmission and haven't let my foot off the clutch all the way but I am still hitting the gas.
Overall, the acceleration is there when I need it but I still need to adjust to the in city driving. So I will reserve judgement until I have driven it for at least a month.
